Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Camaro - Darw-Tite

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the "Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver, Class I," part number is 24938. Now, here's what it's going to look like once it's installed. You can see it's going to fit up nicely against the bottom of the fascia. The only thing visible is going to be your receiver tube and your safety chain loops. It's going to be an inch-and-a-quarter by inch-and-a-quarter design, Class I, so it's going to work well with all your Class I accessories. It's going to have a nice black powder-coated finish to help protect against rust and corrosion. It's going to be a bolt-on design, no drilling required.

It's going to sandwich between your factory bumper and your frame rails using the factory hardware. This hitch is designed for 200 pounds of tongue weight, which is our downward force, and 2,000 pounds of gross trailer weight, which is the amount our loaded trailer can weigh. You'll want to consult with your owner's manual or your manufacturer to make sure your vehicle is able to tow that amount of weight and always use the lesser of the 2 amounts. Why don't we go ahead and give you some measurements that's going to aid you in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a cargo carrier or a bike rack From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper, it's going to be about 4-and-a-half-inches. From the ground to the inside of the top of the receiver tube, it's going to be about 10-and-a-half-inches. Now, to begin our installation, we're going to have to remove the 7-millimeter bolts that go along the bottom of our fascia that hold it in place. It's going to be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 of them along the bottom. I'm going to go ahead and start by removing these.

There are a couple of plugs up inside our fender well here that we'll need to unplug. I have a black one here, in this case. We'll slide back that little rubber lock, then we can squeeze in on the center and we'll remove our plug. We'll unplug those. On this case, it's going to be for the back-up camera and for the lights on the rear of the car. Now we can go to the side of the fender well and we'll start removing the screws there as well.

We're going to have 1 fastener here, it's a T15. We'll have another one right here. They're going to be identical for the driver's side as the passenger's side, so whatever we do to this side, we'll be doing the same thing on the other side. There's actually going to be a third T15 up here, we'll have to remove that one as well. Once we have that third one out, we can just take this belt, we're going to pry it back, and right here you're going to see the 7-millimeter screw that goes up from the bottom side. We'll need to remove that.

We open the trunk up. Now, with the help of an assistant, we're going to go ahead and just start pulling our fascia. As we start releasing, we'll just go ahead and pull our fascia off and we're going to set it somewhere safe until we're ready to re-install it. Now we're going to go ahead and remove this bumper structure. There's going to be 4 15-millimeter nuts, 1 on the top, 1 over here and there would be 2 on the bottom side. Those are also going to be holding on your exhaust brackets. We'll go ahead and take the bottom ones off first. We're going to have 1, we have access through the inside of the bumper, there's a hole drill. We'll do the same thing for the other side. Now we'll slide the exhaust fender bracket off, just lay it to the side. Do that for both sides. Then, we can remove our bumper. We'll set this aside as well. Now we can take our hitch and we're going to set it on to the studs that the bumper was mounted on. It's going to be sandwiched between that and the bumper. We can go ahead and re-install the nuts. Now we can go ahead and snug down all of our bolts. Now we can go ahead and torque it down to the specifications in our instructions. Now we can get an assistant and we're going to set our bumper cover back into place. Just line up our tabs, snap our bumper into place. Now we can go ahead and reattach our plugs that we previously disconnected, slip the locks back in. Then, we can re-install all of our screws along the bottom and the inside of the inner fender wells. Now we can re-install the ones in the fender well as well. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver, Class I, part number 24938 on our 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

I haul a small (4x5) trailer 2-3 times a week down a 2-mile dirt road to take my 2 Huskies for a walk by a riparian area (Sonoita Creek in S. AZ). I would highly recommend etrailer hitches! in short, this hitch works well for my 2017 camaro ss with a standard bumper setup and dual mode exhaust (quad pipes). i don't have any aftermarket bumper, diffuser or the GM ground effects kit. the hitch clears the bumper/standard diffuser without modification. i works well with my Kuat sherpa 2.0 bike rack and there are no clearance problems with the tilt away function of the rack (my car is on factory suspension with mag ride). as for the installation... - the install video is essential! watch it! nice and detailed. - it does take about 2 hours especially if you do it yourself (which i did). - you don't need the extenders to access the hex bolts around the metal impact bar. i installed it with a standard ratcheting wrench set. - you don't need to have it on a lift although it would make it easier. i installed in on 2 jack stands - on jack stands, the wiring harness is easier to access from the left side (and not from the bottom of the car) once you start pulling away the bumper. i suggest to decouple the bumper from the left first, disconnect the wiring harness, then fully decouple the bumper. it was my first hitch install and the video made it very doable. overall, a great hitch for my camaro and i'm loving it! 365968

And excellent product. Was easy to put on, especially after watching the video. The only comment I would have to say is for the 2017 Camaro, it is a little difficult to get the facia off. Do not pull it straight off, it has clips made out of plastic built into the top of the facia that needs to be lifted off of the latches that snaps it on. Over all, it took me less than an hour to put this on my Camaro. It is definitely easier to do with the wheels on a lift or blocks. I did not remove the electrical clips connecting to the lights, I just sent the facia on a bench off to the side. That is an issue that I saw others have when installing this hitch. 664965

I just installed this hitch today on my 2017 Camaro SS Convertible with the dual mode exhaust (NPP) option. Installation went exactly as expected, and the fit is absolutely perfect! I took the opportunity to upgrade my taillights at the same time, so having them off the vehicle made it a little bit easier to remove and reattach the bumper cover. The video provided here was invaluable. Thanks so much etrailer for providing that! It gave me the confidence to do the installation myself. The biggest problem I had was detaching the two wiring harnesses under the bumper cover on the left hand side. I had to detach most of the clips on the fascia so I could access them from the side of the vehicle (reaching in right behind the wheel) rather than from below the vehicle to get them to disconnect. After sliding out the locking clip on each harness, I pushed a small flat blade screwdriver into the notch in the female half of the harness to release the clip holding in in place. At that point, they just slid apart easily. No modification / trimming was needed. Perfect fit! 328511
