Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Infiniti G37 - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2010 Infiniti G37, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Sportframe Class I trailer hitch receiver, Part number: 24831. Here's what the hitch looks like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it comes out pretty flush to the rear fascia here. You're not really adding anything to the rear of the vehicle, but that does give you really good accessibility. It's very well tucked away. All you can see is the back of the receiver tube up to the front of the receiver tube and these safety chain loops here. This hitch features a 200 pound max tongue weight rating and a 2,000 gross trailer weight rating.

You will want to be sure to refer to the owner's manual to see if your vehicle is capable of that type of weight, and if not, go by the owners manual. Now I'll give you some measurements to help assist you in your selection of accessories such as bike racks or cargo carriers. The distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to outermost part of the rear bumper is about 2 3/4", and the distance from the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening to the ground is about 12". Now let's show you how to install it. The first thing we'll need to do is we'll need to mark the bottom edge of our license plate here. The way I'm going to do that so I don't leave any permanent marks on the bumper is I'm just going to take a little bit of electrical tape and just put it along the bottom edge there, so I know right about where the bottom of that license plate is. Now I can take this license plate off of here. I measured the distance between the holes top to bottom on the hitch and I got about 3 1/8ths of an inch, so I'm going to go ahead and mark that on both sides underneath the holes that are here.

I'll be able to take a 1" hole saw with the point there with each mark being my center point and drill those out, so those should stay hidden behind the license plate then. Now that gives me access to the other 2 bolts. We need to remove this black appearance panel from underneath. We've got 2 pushpin fasteners back here and then some 10mm bolts that we'll need to remove. On these fasteners, we need to pop the center of them up. You can use a trim panel tool, or if you don't have a trim panel tool, you can also use a flat head screwdriver.

Just get the center pulled out there, and then the rest of it should pull right out. We'll do that same thing to this one. Then we've got 5 10mm bolts that we'll need to remove, two right up here, one in this recessed area, one over here, and then one right there in the center towards the front of the vehicle. Then you can let that appearance panel down and set it aside. Now what we'll need to do is mark this area here on the underside of the rear fascia in order to cut it according to the instructions. Now we can take our 12mm bolts out that hold in this fascia support.

Then we'll put these aside and we will not be reusing these. Not all of these have this, but some of them have a weld here between the fascia support and the actual bumper, so that's going to have to get ground off. It's also got two little ones at either end of the support. Instead of taking the whole fascia off, what I'm going to do is I'm going to drill these little plastic rivets out in order to gain access to there. Then I can finish drilling those out so that I can resecure them with a different fastener when I'm ready to go back together. We can grind those welds off. Then I can do that same thing to these other two welds. Then with those welds ground down, you may just have to put a little bit of pressure with a pry bar or something in order to waggle it loose the rest of the way, so then we can take that out of there so we can reinstall it with the hitch. Now that I've got that fascia support bracket off of there, I can put it onto the front side of that plate because the plate for the hitch is going to go between this bracket and the actual bumper. I can put it onto the face of it. I'm just going to put some tape down to help hold it in place, so that way I can put the hitch and bracket up into place at the same time and not have to fight trying to get that bracket in there after the hitch. Now what we'll do is pull the bottom of our fascia out here in order to begin working the hitch up into place. When you're getting the hitch up into place, you need to make sure that this bracket that comes down off the hitch goes on top of the tow hook right here. You can get the holes lined up and begin to put the new 8mm bolts into the holes and thread them in. Now we can get all of our 8mm hardware hand tight so that it'll still move just enough as we try to put our hardware in for the tow hook down here. Now we can take our 1/2" carriage bolt and feed it down into the tow hook. This little lip may get in the way a little bit, so if you need to bend it, you can. Then once you've got that across there, you can take your plate followed by lock washer and 1/2" nut, and we will put that hand tight as well. Now we can tighten down our 8mm bolts with 13mm head the rest of the way. Then on the tow hook, it'll be a 3/4" socket. Now we're ready to torque all of our hardware to the specification in the instructions. Now we can begin reinstalling everything for our license plate. Since we drilled these rivets out, what I'm going to do is I'm just going to put some small bolts, nuts, and washers on there. Now we can replace the license plate. Then we can get them tightened up. Now we can take our black appearance panel that was underneath, and we'll just line it up so we can get a pretty good idea of about where we're going to need to cut to. On this one, I'll need to cut just in past this little beveled edge right here. I'll need to cut about that far in and about that wide, so I'll just trim that back to about there. That's about the area that I'll be cutting out there. We can just take a pair of sheers or tin snips or anything you may have that'll make it a little bit easier to cut this, and then just cut out the marked area. Once you've got that black appearance panel all trimmed so that it'll fit, you can slide it back up into place. That's going to complete our look at the Draw-Tite Sportframe Class I trailer hitch receiver, Part number: 24831 on our 2010 Infiniti G37.

Installation video was great but the bolts were a bit different than the ones in the instructional videos. Had to do additional cuts but everything worked. Paired it with a 2 bike rack all for under $150 for my specific car. Fast shipping and great deal! 456108

The hitch fits well and is barely noticeable on the car. Installation was easy after watching the install videos on the website. I decided to remove the rear bumper for the install so that I only needed to trim the bottom of the bumper cover and the plastic shield underneath the spare tire well. I also took a page from other reviewers and painted the bolt and silver tab black before installing. I'm looking forward to using a bike rack to haul my bike around and, in time, using a cargo carrier. The hitch will expand the usefulness of my car. 670797

2012 Ford Edge

This went on our 2012 Infiniti G37x pretty easily. I haven't actually mounted the bike carrier on it yet, but I was happy that the installation went pretty smoothly. I put a horizontal piece of painters tape along the bottom of the license plate before I took it off so I would be sure not to extend the holes too far down such that they would be visible. This added an extra bit of confidence the process. The instructions don't give specific locations for holes to drill to access the lower bolts that you have to remove. See the attached pictures: the hole on the left was placed better than the hole on the right. If doing it again, I'd aim for the center of the holes to horizontally align with the bottom edge of the rectangular dimple in the bumper fascia. Vertically the holes alight with the bolts that are visible when you remove the license plate. I'd also use a 7/8" or even 1" bit: the 3/4" hole was a bit tight for my sockets. That combined with being off just a little bit on the right hole meant that I had to extend the right hole a bit with a utility knife. I cut the bumper fascia and the under tray with my Sonicrafter, which made it super quick and easy. You could do it with a utility knife but it definitely would be more work. The other trick I did was that I used a bit of double-sided tape to stick the aluminum fascia support to the hitch while getting the whole works wedged into place. That's the only somewhat difficult part: you have to pull back on the fascia while maneuvering the combination of the hitch and support plate into place. An extra set of hands would have been useful, but I managed it by myself. Just be careful to not pinch your fingers between the fascia and the hitch like I did. Trimming the under-tray is required and some idea of the right cut-out would have been helpful, but was not present in the instructions. See the attached photos to get an idea of the area I cut out. It's a little bigger than need be, but not by too much. I'm a little concerned that the hardware (bolt, nut, washer, plate) for attaching the hitch to the tow loop is bare steel. Maybe it's really stainless steel and will be fine, but I'm considering spraying it just to help keep it from becoming a mass of rust. Sprayed black, it would blend in better under the car too as it is visible from the rear. All done, none of the trimming is visible, and the hitch seems like it belongs there. 132728

Installed on a 2008 G35x Sedan: Installation was easier than I expected, took about 1 hour total. Product feels Solid and is not too noticable when installed. I'm no real handy man but was able to to get this installed pretty quickly. Be prepared to make some minor cuts to the plastic bumper panel, two holes behind the licence plate to access the bolts which fasten the hitch and a 3.5" x 2" cut underneath where the hitch reciever extends from. I found a dremel worked perfectly for making the cuts. I also used painters tape to ensure I didn't drill beyond where the rear plate would cover. Thankfully, no other drilling or cutting is required as the holes for the bolts already exist on the bumper frame. Simply remove an aluminum spacer from the bumper frame by removing the 4 bolts pictured, slide the hitch up through the bottom and place the aluminum spacer back over the hitch. Use the bolts that came with the hitch as they are much stronger than the pre-existing bolts, and your done! *Shown with a Thule Doubletrack Platform-style 2 Bike Rack For 1-1/4 & 2" Hitch recievers 39423

Fit easily on my 2008 Infiniti G35X. No issues other than with the car itself (it's a bit rusty from age). This turned my G37 sedan into the Bike hauling vehicle I needed. I carry two bikes on a Kuat rack using this hitch with an average weight of 60lbs total. Instillation was easy as I did it myself. Took about an hour start to finish. I was also able to install it with the car still on the ground! 561790

I'm unsure about the product, as it is untested to-date, but etrailer.com was a great vendor to work with for the purchase and install. The website contains helpful advice, how-to videos, and many customer-provided pics. I plan to purchase my other accessories through etrailer.com and I would encourage others to do so as well. In an era of inexpensive goods shipped with quick delivery, customer service is an opportunity for a vendor to set themselves apart...etrailer.com certainly does, IMO. 550441

This hitch gets 5 stars from me because of the tremendous customer service that I got from etrailer.com. I received an email right after ordering notifying me that shipping had been upgraded at no additional cost to me. Then AFTER I had received the package, I got ANOTHER email from etrailer linking me to information about the product as well as a video on how to install the hitch ON MY CAR!!! Tremendous customer service and communication. Thank you for making the video because THAT is what made the installation easy. I have to say that I'm glad that etrailer sent me these emails because their installation video is what I used to install the product. The instructions that the manufacturer included with the product were pretty horrible. It broke down to one page and nothing was in any logical order. It was etrailer's video that made it clear what was to be done. Again, kudos to etrailer.com!!! On to the product. It looks like Draw-Tite makes a solid product. The weight indicates its sturdiness, build quality is high, and everything lined up perfectly. No extra cutting or wallowing was necessary. I installed everything at right at an hour, and that included having to mess with the stupid Infiniti fastening clips on the bumper fascia. They actually wasted my time. Overall I'm happy with the receiver and its solidness, but I'm even more happy with the customer service I got from the guys at etrailer. WOW! 409115

2011 Infiniti G37

I bought this for a 2010 Infinity G37x. I bought it to put a bike wrack on because I was moving from Chicago to Seattle, and I drove the whole way with a bike wrack and 3 bikes. It held up well, and was pretty easy to install. A helpful note for other G37 owners. This applies EXCLUSIVELY to the 2010 variant of the G37(x) sedan. If you wanted the nice trailer hitch installation video they have here (which was very helpful), you'll notice the hitch gets bolted on between the bumber and a block of metal. In the video (w/ a 2011 G37) the metal piece just comes right off. However, if you have a 2010 G37, that piece is welded on at the top. This was very challenging, but there is a trick to removing it. Since it is only welded at the top, you can pry the bottom away from the bumper frame. After very little prying, the weld will snap off clean. And you will have the piece separate just like in the video. Don't waste time trying to remove the weld, just pry it off. I used a hammer and a wooden doorstop wedge that I pushed in after using a flat head to give myself a bit of space. After I pried it past an inch of separation or so, it became weak and a few times back and forth and it came right off. I hope this helps someone, because it was a nightmare for me at the time, and it was hard to pinpoint any good info on this because most of the reviews I read were from post 2010 G37 owners and they never mentioned anything about it being welded. 267206

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • 2010 Infiniti G37 Trailer Hitch Receiver Comparison
The Curt trailer hitch receiver # C11499 is very similar to the Draw-Tite # 24831. The Curt hitch is made in the USA and the Draw-Tite hitch is made in Mexico. These hitches will install in a similar manner and will require trimming of the fascia. The Curt hitch will include the pin and clip, but will also require stabilization strap # 18050 for any non-trailer accessory. This isn't a bad idea, but many people don't like that requirement for their warranty to remain intact. Both...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2013 Infiniti G37X
Whether or not you will need a draw bar (ball mount) depends on what you will be using the hitch for on your 2013 Infiniti G37X. By the way that is a super-cool car but I may be biased since I have a 2008 G37S! If you will be using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier then you would not need the draw bar. But for towing it is essential. For bike racks or cargo carriers I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24831 because with it you are not required to use a stabilization strap...

The difference is they are different brands. They are going to be very similar in design. The Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 24831, does not include the drawbar, pin and clip. • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2009 Infinity G37 Sedan
For your 2009 Infinity G37 sedan, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class I # 24831. The Class I is all that is available for your vehicle, but will work well to tow a small trailer like you mentioned to tow a couple kayaks or some mulch/wood from time to time. I recommend using ball mount # 3593 with this hitch and a 2 inch hitch ball like # 19258. • Hitch, Bike Rack, and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan
I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 24831 for your application. This hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and won't require the use a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack/cargo carrier like the Curt hitch does. For a cargo carrier that would do well to carry your 80 lb generator I would recommend the Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18145. Check out the review video I attached to the right for more info. For a bike rack I would recommend the Swagman...

  • Where Does the Hitch for a 2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan Install
The Draw Tite hitch # 24831 that you referenced has been confirmed as a fit for your 2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan so it should work well for you. You should note that a towing setup is only as strong as it's weakest component. While the hitch is rated for 2,000 lbs of trailer weight you can't tow more than 1,000 lbs since your vehicle has that rating. I attached a picture that shows how it will install on your vehicle. Basically the hitch sandwiches between the aluminum bumper and the...

  • Trailer Hitch Installation and Fascia Trim Dimensions for a 2011 Infiniti G37
You are correct, the Draw-Tite #24831 and Hidden Hitch #60221 (no longer available) hitches are also identical as far as the fit on the vehicle, and they made by the same manufacturer. I have provided a link to installation instructions for you to review. When trimming the rear fascia, you will need to trim a rectangle that is 2 inches by 3-1/4 inches, at the center of the rear fascia. I have provided a diagram that shows the cut dimensions for installation of these hitches on the 2011...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2008 Inifiniti G37
The Curt # C11068 that you referenced is designed to fit newer versions of the Infiniti G37 so I cannot recommend it for your 2008 model. If for example you have a 2010 G37 this hitch would fit. The only hitch we offer for your vehicle is the Curt # C11493 that has been confirmed as a fit as long as you have a coupe. The fit info for the hitch also states that trimming of the fascia will be required. For a ball mount you would then want the part # C45521, for a 2 inch hitch ball part...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2012 Infiniti G37
A hitch bike rack is a great option to carry up to 2 bikes on your 2012 Infiniti G37. One of my favorite hitch mount bike racks and the one that I recommend for you is the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack # HR200Z. The Trail Rider can carry 2 bikes with maximum wheel bases of 60 inches, tires up to 3 inches, and up to 45 pounds per bike. This hitch mount platform bike rack will fit both 1-1/4 inch, Class I and Class II hitches, as well as 2 inch trailer hitches. To help the bike...

  • Recommended Hitch and Rated Towing Capacity for 2008 G37 Coupe
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24831 that you referenced fits the sedan version of the 2008 Infiniti G37 but not your coupe, however we do have a comparable hitch for your car. Curt Class I hitch # C11493 is a confirmed fit for your 2008 G37 Coupe. This hitch has a 150-lb tongue weight (TW) capacity and a 1500-lb gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity. It is possible that your G37 carries different weight ratings so you'll want to check your owner's manual or with your local dealership...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2004 Infiniti G35X Sedan
The hitch part # 24831 that you referenced is designed to fit 2007-2008 Infiniti G35 Sedans, so you would want the Curt Hitch part # C11482 instead as this hitch has been confirmed to fit your 2004 Infiniti G35X. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Hitch, Wiring and Other Components for a 2009 Infiniti G37X to Tow Trailer of 1850-lbs Gross Weight
The only size and Class hitch offered for your 2009 Infiniti G37X is a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch, and we offer several. The correct fit for your G37 will depend on the version of the G37 that you have, convertible, coupe or sedan. I have linked our main page for hitches where you can use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to select your vehicle style and see the hitch options available. I have also linked several informational articles concerning hitch classes, installation...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe
I do have a solution for carrying bikes on your 2009 Infinity G37 coupe, but a trailer hitch option is not available for the coupe model. What you can do instead is use a trunk mount bike rack. We have several options that will fit your G37 coupe and I have included a link to them for you. Out of the three options, the Thule Gateway 2, # TH9006XT, is the most popular option. For any trunk mount bike rack, if you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation with Best Ground Clearance for a 2012 Infiniti G37X
Since your 2012 Infiniti G37X sits relatively low to the ground it would be beneficial to have a bike rack that has a rise in the shank. First, if you do not already have a trailer hitch, I recommend Draw-Tite hitch # 24831 for a sedan, # C11493 for a coupe, or # C11068 for a convertible. These are all Class I hitches which means you will need a bike rack that is compatible with a Class I hitch. You are also limited to 2 bikes maximum. And with either of the Curt hitches Curt also says...

  • Is The Trimmed Portion of the Fascia Visible When Installing a Trailer Hitch on a 2010 G37xS Sedan
The part of the fascia that needs to be trimmed will be on the under side of the fascia on the 2010 G37 Sedan. To see the area that will be trimmed you would need to look up from underneath of the vehicle. All of the hitches available for the G37 require trimming a rectangle in the center of the lower bumper fascia. At this time I do not have a better option for carrying bikes on your vehicle.

  • 2008 Infiniti G35 Sedan Trailer Hitch Differences and Bike Rack Recommendation
All three of the hitches available for your 2008 Infinity G35 Sedan are Class I hitches. I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, item # 24831. The hitches all install in the same location at the center of the rear bumper on the vehicle, none are more hidden than the others, and all require trimming a small area of the fascia underneath the vehicle. Once the hitch is installed you will be able to simply slide a bike rack into the receiver and secure it with a pin and clip which is included...

  • Aluminum Fascia Support on 2009 Infiniti G37 is Welded On and Can't Install Trailer Hitch
I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite. There have been only 2 or 3 cases where customers with the same vehicle have found that the plate in question is welded on. Infiniti seems to have welded only some models but not all. The solution that other customers have come up with is to use a pry bar to push that panel back and forth to break the welds. Another option would be to cut the welds but you would likely not be able to get a tool in there to do so. I wish there was a more definitive...

  • Holes Drilled and Attachment Point for Installing Draw-Tite Receiver Part # 24831 on Infiniti G37
Two 3/4 inch holes will need to be drilled in the bumper cover to access the bolts in the fascia support. These holes will be hidden by the license plate. The hitch bolts to the aluminum bumper, not the frame. The lower bumper fascia will need to be trimmed to allow the receiver to pass through it as well. This is explained in the installation instructions that I have linked to below.

  • Why is there No Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Infiniti G35 Coupe
There can be many reasons a hitch is not available for any given vehicle. Usually we see this on BMWs. One issue is that if a hitch has never been tested on a vehicle then they cannot say it will fit. There are also situations where the frame, exhaust, or suspension is different between versions or trim levels of the same vehicle and only certain versions can accept a hitch. Making modifications to a hitch will make its capacity unknown, void the warranty, and could make the hitch dangerous...

  • 2012-2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation
For your 2012-2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan the Draw Tite hitch part # 24831 that you referenced would be the best choice. It doesn't require a stabilizer strap like the Curt does and it doesn't include a ball mount that you wouldn't need like the Hidden Hitch does. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. The best type of bike rack for beach cruiser bikes is going to be a platform style rack. There are many that fit in a Class I trailer hitch but because of the weight of...
