Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount for 3" Hitches

Speaker 1: Today, we're taking a look at the Curt heavy duty forged ball mount for three-inch hitches. Now this ball mount lets you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank slides into the hitch on your vehicle, and then the ball platform provides a mounting point for a trailer hitch ball, which is sold separately. We have a lot of those available at etrailer.com if you're in need of one. This unit is a solid one-piece forged steel construction, very strong and durable, no weak points, no welds. Features a corrosion resistant carbide black powder-coated finish to resist rust and corrosion, and look good for many years. You can use this in either the drop or rise positions, so both positions are available to ensure level towing.

That is secured in your hitch, you will need a hitch pin and clamp, or a hitch lock. Those items are sold separately and available at etrailer.com. The pin holes on this unit will accept a standard five-eighth inch diameter pin.Again, it is designed to slide into a three-inch by three-inch trailer hitch receiver. The unit offers a maximum gross trailer capacity of 21,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight of 2,800 pounds. A few measurements I just wanna mention for you real quick.

I did take a measurement of the distance from the center of the hitch ball hole going straight back to the center of the hitch pin holes, and I got a measurement of nine inches. When you're using this in a drop position, it's gonna give you a drop of four inches. That's from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of your hitch down to the top of the ball platform. When you're using it in the rise position, it's gonna give you a rise of two inches from the inside top edge of the receiver to your hitch up to the top of the ball platform. And then when choosing the hitch ball, you wanna make sure you get a hitch ball that has a shank that fits this hole appropriately. And the diameter measurement there is an inch and a quarter.

The product is also covered with a limited lifetime warranty, and that's gonna do it for today's look at the Curt heavy duty forged ball mount for three inch hitches.

  • Recommended Pintle Hitch and Lunette Ring for 2015 Ford F-750 with 23,800 lb Trailer
For your 2015 Ford F750 boom truck, there is not a ball mount rated for that weight capacity. The largest capacity is 20K for a 2-1/2 inch hitch like # C45458 or 21K for a 3 inch hitch receiver like # C45430. We don't have a trailer hitch receiver rated that high either. It appears the truck does have the towing capacity to handle that trailer, but you will need to use a direct mount like the Curt Pintle Hook - Bolt On - 30,000 lbs # C48215.
