Pewag Servo RS Installation Instructions

How to Install Pewag Servo RS Snow Chains

  1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.
  2. Connect the cable on the back side of the tire.
  3. Pull the chain over the top and around to the front of the tire. Connect the servo device to the inner, tensioning chain with the top-mounted, dual hook.
  4. Fit the chain around the tire, making sure that the servo is in the front.
  5. Connect the inner chain to the outer traction chain at the bottom of the tire using the large red hook.
  6. Activate the servo device to ratchet the chain tightly into place.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require the use of Class S chains.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Pewag Servo Self Tensioning Tire Chains Installation - 2016 Kia Sedona

Today on our 2015 Kia Sedona, we'll be taking a look at and installing the Pewag Servo RS Self- Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, part number PWRS80. The patented tensioning system self tightens during installation. No manual tensioning is needed. With titanium alloy steel construction, it's going to be strong and corrosion resistant. With the diagonal pattern, it delivers a smooth ride. These are going to be a low profile design that are going to be SAE class S tire chains, for vehicles with limited clearance in the wheel well. Now let's go ahead and see how they're installed.

We will be installing them on tire size 235 60 R18. Now we pull our chain out of our bag, we're going to want to make sure that we lay it out and check for any kinks, twists, any breaks, or any damage to our cables, making sure that we have them laid out the right way with the label facing outwards. You can see that all the Pewag is all facing upright. The side with no labels is facing down. Find the center with that quick link in it. We're going to place it over the tire to where that cable goes back behind.

Then we can go ahead and make our connection on the back side. I'll go ahead and take our links on the back side and press them together and twist. Let's go ahead and make our connection o the outside. I'll go head and flip it to the open setting here on the box and pull out the cable. Go ahead and make our connection on the farthest link that we can. Once you have your connection made, we'll go ahead and adjust the chain to where the vehicles are as close to down the center of the tire as you can get them. Once you have those made, go ahead and click it to the drive position and let that cable tighten up.

As you drive, it will actually pull any tension that you may have in it until that's all the way back down. That will do it for our review and installation of the Pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, part number PWRS80 on our 2016 Kia Sedona.

We used these chains going up to Truckee and they were the easiest chains we’ve ever installed. Highly recommended! 595384

The little clips can get tangly, and the main clasp can be a pain sometimes to get it to stay clasped untill you get tension on it. But overall I have used them quite a few times and they work great. I would def recommend them over the traditional types. 468340

These are great quick and easy to install and don't require a roll over. Installed them at 0010 with a headlamp on a steep icy hill after sliding 75ft without them. 466930

Received the tire chains today. No adverse driving conditions to test them on. Will put them on tires this weekend - to check for fit and to practice installation instead of when they are needed. 594457

The chains were a great fit. It took a little while to figure it out, because I forgot to disconnect both the top and bottom portion of the chains before putting it on. 583240

Outstanding product! Very well-designed tire chain, quality components, easy to install, and terrific grip. I researched this purchase from some time and paid a little more for this quality product. We live in an area with very steep hills and quite a bit of snow and ice that goes unmanaged by the city. I figured these chains would be easy to install (I didn't look a the instructions before I took them out to put them on and had them on in 11 minutes), last a long time, not cause damage to my Lexus SUV, and provide excellent traction. They meet all my expectations. 469494

Review from a similar Pewag Servo RS in Tire Chains

The package came on time as you said it would! The directions were pictures with little text in a vinyl/plastic insert that fits nicely in the case. Watching the video helped a lot, should have looked at first before I installed one. I did it right but the video made it faster the second time! The case is compact and has a rigid separator plate that keeps the two chains separate. The service on the telephone was superb rate it a 10. This was reassuring since their are so many choices. The chains fit like a glove and now I hope I never need them! 344682

Review from a similar Pewag Servo RS in Tire Chains

I have never been more pleased with a purchase decision than I am with these snow chains. They fit my car perfectly and were easier to install than I expected. If you have ever used on-ground cable chains, you know there are three connections that must be made, plus any adjustments to the tension device. With these chains, the connections are easy and the self-tightening tension device is impressive. At first I was not interested in this feature, but after using it I can appreciate how it will keep the chains tight and secure. I was also impressed by the design of the carrying case. I expected it would be difficult to replace the chains in the case once removed. Wrong. They easily fit back into the handy plastic case. Further, the chains came with plastic gloves to slip over your your hands (even with winter gloves) to keep your hands and lower arms clean. It's a bit odd to be so excited about a product that I hope NOT to use. But I drive to ski resorts all over the West and encounter chain restrictions often. Although I have all-wheel drive, I don't have snow tires and recent chain restrictions in Mammoth, CA require chains or 4-WD with snow tires on all wheels. Now, I'm actually looking forward to using the chains. I'm so pleased, I may purchase a second set for my wife's car. Finally, etrailer.com was great too work with. Their rep ( thanks Donna!) helped me find the right size chains for my wheels. Thanks so much! 335643

Their customer service is awesome!! They reached out to me via email as soon as they noticed delay and kept me updated on the delivery status, and also followed up after the delivery. We now have the chains we need for winter weather! We are very pleased to finally find the right snow chain for our tire size after looking around for 2 years! • Best Tire Chains for a 2016 Honda Pilot with 245/60-18 Tires
  • We have several tire chain options that will work with the 245/60-18 tires on your 2016 Honda Pilot. For the cable type we have # PW1046. These are best for infrequent use or if you have to have something in the vehicle to be in compliance with the laws in some areas. We also have # PW1946V which has the cables at more of an angle across the tire tread and will offer a little better traction. I have linked videos of both types for you. For regular chains we have the Pewag Servo RS set...

  • I recommend going with the Pewag Servo RS # PWRS80 for the 235/60-18 size tires on your 2019 Honda Odyssey because these feature a drape-over installation, steel square links in a diamond pattern, rim protection, and a quick release for easy removal. The steel square links in the diamond pattern give you the best traction out there when compared to steel cables or square links in the ladder pattern.
