These chains are the perfect solution for SUVs with limited wheel-well clearance because they ride solely on your tire tread. Chains automatically tighten and align as you drive so you don't have to recheck tension.

Features:

  • Provides excellent traction in snow and ice
    • Square links dig in and provide good grip - small size makes for a less bumpy ride
    • Diamond pattern offers constant traction and a smoother ride than ladder patterns
    • Traction plates bust ice apart
  • Made for passenger vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance
    • Meets SAE Class S standards
    • Crease zero interference behind the wheel
  • Automatically tightens around tire as you drive - no need to stop and tension
    • Securely attaches to wheel lug nut for installation
    • Maintains grip on tire thanks to strong materials and geometric design
  • Removes quickly with external release system
    • Sturdy arms can be folded for compact storage
  • Offers protection for wheel rims - chains sit on tire treads only, leaving wheels untouched
  • Includes nylon storage bag and 3 lug nut adapters (17 mm, 19 mm, and 21-22 mm)

Specs:

  • Lug nut/bolt size: 19 mm and 21 mm to 22 mm
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • Internal clearance required: none
  • 5-Year warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit XXL chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

etrailer website says Konig K-Summit XXL KON84FR (K78) is VERIFED TO FIT 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with 285/44r22 tires. See screenshot.

After receiving Chains, manual clearly states K79 is REQUIRED to fit 285/44r22 tires. See attached manual pic with highlights.

Also, Konig's website also states K79 is needed. See website screenshot attached.

etrailer does not carry the K79 chains. Also, charged me a ~$xx restocking fee to send back the "Confirmed fit" ones they sent that DO NOT fit.

Any other 2022+ Grand Wagoneer owners with 285/44-25 tires, be warned!

by:

Haven't used them yet, but well made and relatively easy to adjust for my truck. I found them easy to put on and take off. They seem to do a good job of self-tensioning. The fact that I won't have to get behind the tire in the snow to put them on or struggle with tensioning them and that they seem like they'll drive much more smoothly, makes me glad I purchased them. We'll see once I actually use them . . .

Great price, fast shipping, awesome com munications.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2023 BMW x5e with 315/30-21 Tire Size
We only have one tire chain set that fits the tire size you have on your 2023 BMW X5 of 315/30-21 with the Konig K-Summit chains part # TH02230K66. These are a really effective snow chain but due to their very unique way of installing they do not require any inner sidewall clearance, install easily, provide rim protection, and provide great traction. What we normally recommend is to have you contact a BMW dealer in an area that has snow chain requirements and ask them what they recommend....

I attached two links to this page that show the tire chains we offer for both the tire size 255/40-21 and 265/40-21 for you to check out. You'll notice that both tire sizes use the same chains since they are very close in diameter and width. The easiest to install (only takes seconds) is the Konig Easy Fit chains part # TH04115265. These are my favorite. The ones that require the least amount of clearance are the K-Summits # TH2004565767. For a more economical and standard type of chain...

The best tire chains for your 2024 Subaru Ascent with 245/50-20 tires are going to be the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # TH2004565767. Konig chains are very high quality. With proper care/usage they are expected to last several seasons. As far as install it does not get much easier than these clamp on self-tensioning chains. For your non-standard 2021 BMW X5 tire size of 315/30-22, BMW does not recommend using tire chains with these specific sizes. However, many car manufacturers make these kinds of recommendations in order to wash their hands of any liability if any damage occurs to components inside the wheel wells.
