The lock mounts in the recess under your tailgate handle, so thieving varmints can't pop it out. Today on our 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, we're going to be installing the Pop & Lock Tailgate Lock part number PAL1300. Before we begin, we'll actually show you the components of this item. We have the lock mechanism itself and a set of keys. We have a 6 mm hex bolt and flat washer, 6/30 seconds screw and a horseshoe shaped mounting insert. And with that, we'll go ahead and begin installing it on the vehicle. We'll begin by opening the tailgate.
We're going to remove this 8-mm bolt and we're going to loosen these two 8-mm bolts. Now, you want to get these pretty loose. It will help with the fitting of the lock mechanism. With that loose, we'll go ahead and shut the tailgate and we'll actually be able to remove this bezel. It is held in by three clips.
With the bezel removed, we're going to go ahead and flip it over and remove this clip, this bolt clip, and set it off to the side. We'll then take the horseshoe shaped insert and slide it down into the bezel itself underneath where the previous clip was. With that done, we'll go ahead and flip it back over, taking our lock mechanism and insert it into the bezel here, making sure that it lines up. We'll then take our small 6/30 seconds bolt, insert it into the small hole here, and go ahead and tighten that down. And with the small bolt tight, we're ready to go ahead and install it on the vehicle.
We'll need to bring the 6 mm bolt and flat washer with us back over to the truck in order to install it. With our handle loose, we can go ahead and re-install our bezel. I recommend holding up the handle a little bit at the top part of the bezel head and then just ease it down back into place and the secure it using the three clips, and then we can open our tailgate back up and we can go ahead and tighten down our two bolts here. And with our two bolts tight here, we'll now use the 6-mm hex bolt and flat washer to insert into the third hole which will grab a hold of the lock mechanism and we can go ahead and tighten that down. With the three bolts tight, our installation is complete.
And that completes our Pop & Lock Tailgate, part number PAL1300.

I received the new lock faster than was expecting.The pop&lock was very easy to replace.Just popped out the old lock and popped in the new one .I had to take the handle off and take it inside because it is cold here.No problem very easy to take off. here is pic of the old and the new.
Hey Josh - thanks for the emails. You guys are great at etrailer - for my recent order and my past orders. I was alittle disappointed in the pop and lock. First the screw that came with it striped out- that was partly my fault. Also I had to shave down the locking piece behind the handle because it wouldn’t turn without hitting the tailgate handle and the key wouldn’t come out. I did finally get it to work. So at least I can lock my tailgate now. Thanks again Dan
Just had it installed. My regualr auto shop tried twice & failed. I looked up Pop and Lock's authorized installer (JR's Custom Auto in these parts), & it took less than an hour. It's feels sturdy & well-installed. Having lost my original Pop and Lock that I'd had for years, I'm once again able to lock my 95 Ford Ranger XLT's tailgate.
This in tailgate add on is awesome!!!. It is my second one and you guys are the only vender in my area that carries it. None, none of the big parts stors carry popnlock, they didn't even know what I was talking about. I went on line ordered it and was a wiz to put in. The lock hasn't frozen on me and I live in Newengland. If your looking to secure your truck bed then this is the lock you need. No drilling or retrofitting un bolt and rebolt your handle back on. This is my 2005 dodge dakota.
First of all there were no instructions on how to install the pop&lock as advertised. I have tried the scan code and it does not work or a tablet or smart phone. The manufacture is hard to reach. I have left a detailed voice message. It would be helpful if the manufacture enclosed instructions on how to install this product. I cannot find anything on you tube. I may have to return this product if I do not hear back from the manufacture on how to install the product, I will have to send it back for a refund.

Received the Pop-Lock for my 2009 Chev Silverado yesterday. I followed the simple directions and had it installed in about 20 minutes. Worked perfectly. I would recommend this product.

Received my product in the time I thoughtIt would take, took about twenty minutes to install and it works and looks great. I will tell my friends and any body that ask about etrailer.com and I will be back for shopping myself.
The installation instruction sheet could have been a little clearer on a couple of the drawings they contained, but on a positive, (and much more important), note, the product arrived within 4 days of ordering, was quite easy to install, & works like a dream!

Easy to install. Some difficulty lining up to latching mechanism. Hard to lock and unlock but hopefully after more use will become easier. Well worth the money.
The video was quite helpful. Took 20 minutes to install including putting my tools away. Works great. I had the old style Pop N Lock on my 1998 GMC Sierra So I expected the same quality which is what I got.
This was my 1st E-Trailer order and the service was top notch also.

Like the old model I had on my 1998 GMC Sierra. This one on my 2013 Silverado is flawless. It is starting all ready to show signs of weathering on the plating of the lock cylinder.
Installation was a breeze and the instructions easy to follow. It works well and looks great on my 2012 2500 Chevy

Thanks for a great product. I appreciated the order process, it was very easy and fast. Delivery was timely. I had, already, viewed the installation video prior to receiving the lock. As promised, I was able to install the lock within 8 to 10 minutes. Very nice look and very effective in locking my tailgate. My truck with the camper shell is nicely secured, now.

Mine was also hard to unlocklock. After one winter of salt and snow it became almost impossible to turn because the flap that covers the key slot would stick back. The key slot filled with road grime. After cleaning the lock out, the key was still hard to turn. By the end of the second winter the lock wouldnt turn at all and the paint had peeled from its surface.Trying a different option this time.
