1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Americana Aluminum AM01 Series Black Machined Trailer Wheel. This black aluminum wheel is durable, lightweight, and rust-proof. It does feature a machined spoke design as you can see there, and so that's pretty unique and appealing. This does have a load rating of 1,520 pounds. The clear coat on the front and on the back of this wheel is going to protect it from scuffs and scratches.
And this does feature steel inserts in the lug nut wells that are gonna help keep this wheel securely in place on your trailer hub, preventing the holes from wearing down and eliminating the need for constantly re-tightening the lug nuts. Now, the wheel stud size is 1/2 inch by 20. The dimensions of this wheel, beginning with the diameter measuring bead seat to bead seat, and the bead seat is where the tire actually meets the wheel. So that diameter is going to be 12 inches. And then the width, again, bead seat to bead seat is 4 1/2 inches.
And this has a bolt pattern of 5 on 4 1/2 inches. In case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, as we have here on our wheel, you simply measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. This does not include a center cap, but if you decide to pick one up, you just need to be sure that it fits the pilot diameter of 3.19 inches.

The aluminum wheel I purchased came today. The packaging was incredibly well done. The wheel had plastic rings on each side protecting the edges from any potential shipping damage. Additionally, the wheel was wrapped in a protective foam sheeting. More packing paper was added to all sides to fill out the box keeping the wheel from moving around in the box.
