1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Today we're gonna take a look at this Taskmaster Rambler ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire in a load range D, and it's mounted on this 15-inch white Vesper modular steel trailer wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire and wheel assembly's ideal for stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. We'll start with the wheel. The wheel is a steel wheel, and it has the modular design. When we say modular design, that's the one that has these large holes that go all the way around the wheel.
It's very sturdy and corrosion-resistant. Now, they use a white acrylic enamel finish on the wheel to help resist chipping and other damage better than your powder coat finishes. Actually, the finish is applied after a zinc phosphate pretreatment, and then it covers an eco primer layer, gives you excellent corrosion resistance with a salt spray rating more than 1,000 hours. The lug nut holes right here on the wheel, these are beveled stud holes that help keep your wheel securely in place on the trailer hub. Eliminates the need for constant re-tightening of your lug nuts.
A few dimensions on this wheel. The diameter, which will always be measured straight across inside to inside is 15 inches. The width on just the wheel, five inches wide, and this wheel does have a bolt pattern of 5 on 4 1/2 inches. And if you wanna measure that on a wheel like this, that's an odd number of lugs, in this case five, all you have to do is pick any one of these holes, let's say this one, and you'll measure across to either this hole or this hole. But when you measure it from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to, on this, it'll measure 4 /12 inches.
So it's a five lug, 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This does use a wheel lug size of a half inch by 20, and the weight capacity on just the wheel is 2,160 pounds. Now, if you notice, this wheel does not have a center cap in it. If you do want a center cap, we do sell those separate on our website. You do wanna make sure to get a center cap that'll have the same diameter of this pilot hole on the wheel.
The diameter on this is 3.19 inches. 'Cause when you install your center cap, it will go through this hole. The tire is a radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords, for a nice long life. It's great for highway use, and they do use a nylon tread firming belt overlay around the tire to help prevent tread separation. This tire is an ST tire, which stands for Special Trailer tire. Has sturdy sidewalls so they can handle the heavy loads, and it is created specifically for trailers. It's not intended for use on other vehicles. The tire size, which will be stamped on the sidewall, right here, you'll see ST for Special Trailer, 205/75R15. The R means that it is a radial tire. We turn it to get the section width. Section width on this is gonna be eight inches. The overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 27.2 inches, and this tire is a load range D, which means it's an eight ply rated tire. Has a maximum load capacity of 2,150 pounds at 65 PSI. And I do also put a speed rating on this tire, and it is stamped on the sidewall with a letter designation. And where that is at is usually right after the tire size we just went over. You'll see two numbers for the load index and then a letter M. Speed rating M will mean this has an 81 mile per hour speed rating. Now, this does come with a two-year platinum plus warranty, which includes emergency tire change service and other benefits. And this assembly does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specification and it will exceed your federal motor vehicle safety standards.
