A solid axle-to-spring connection keeps your suspension working right. This galvanized U-bolt plate helps secure a 2" diameter axle to a 1-3/4" wide leaf spring for a firm, stable mount. It ties the parts together so nothing shifts when you hit bumps or uneven ground, keeping your trailer steady and predictable on the road.
Moisture, salt, and grime can eat through unprotected metal fast. This plate is made from galvanized steel, hot-dipped in zinc for a 3-mil to 5-mil coating that protects every surface. That thick, all-around layer prevents rust and corrosion for years of dependable use, making it ideal for trailers that see wet ramps, snow, or road spray.
Getting the alignment right makes installation easy and the connection solid. The plate measures 5" overall, with 2-3/4" spacing from center of hole to center of hole lengthwise and 2-3/8" across. Each bolt hole is 9/16" wide by 13/16" long to match 1/2" diameter U-bolts (sold separately). The accurate dimensions mean the hardware fits tight and the suspension stays true.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the CE Smith U-bolt plate for trailer suspension systems. The U-bolt plate's going to help secure a 2" diameter axle to a 1 3/4" wide leaf spring. You can tell that it's designed for a 1 3/4" wide leaf springs by taking a measurement of the space between these two holes. It's going to be the same as the space between these two holes. That's going to give us the measurement of 1 3/4". The unit does require two 1/2" diameter U-bolts, U-bolts are sold separately.
If you're in need of those you can find them here at etrailer.com. The four outer holes are designed to accept 1/2" diameter bolts. The unit's made from a galvanized steel construction. It's very strong and durable, as well as corrosion resistant, so it's going to be great for boat trailers or any application that's exposed to moisture. The product is made in the USA. The diameter of the center hole's going to measure around 5/8".
The over all length from edge to edge, that's going to give us a measurement of about 5" and then these two holes are going to be separated on center by 2 3/4". The over all width measurement is going to give us of 3 3/4" and then these holes are going to be separated on center apart from one another by 2 3/8". That's going to do it for today's look at the CE Smith U-bolt plate for trailer suspension systems.

I bought springs, shackle bolts, and u-bolts and plates. Everything was great and fit perfectly. Only issue were the u bolts which were not galvanized. However, at a local trailer store, I bought galvanized U bolts for $4.50 each.
For the DYIers, taking the old ones off took more than 4 hours for each side. My existing shackle bolts were so heavily rusted that I had to cut three off with a hack saw. Difficulty was confined space to operate hack saw with boat still on trailer. However, reassembling the new springs was less than 45 minutes each side.
Must have tools are large diameter 3/4-13/16-7/8 deep sockets (6 point), 2 2 foot long breaker bars and a can of PB blaster.
For safety: Good quality jack stands, minimum of 3--don't rely on the front trailer jack as it may roll.
By the way, I did these myself and I am 64 years old.
