Keeping your plate clearly visible doesn’t have to take up space. This Peterson snap-in light is just 1-1/2" in diameter and 2-1/8" long, perfect for tight spots where a full-size fixture won’t fit. The clear lens and incandescent 168 bulb give off bright, even illumination to keep your license plate visible and compliant. It’s small, clean looking, and built for reliable light exactly where you need it.
Wet roads or full submersion aren’t a problem for this light. The sealed, weatherproof housing keeps moisture out, protecting the bulb and wiring from corrosion or shorts. The chrome-plated steel body resists rust and adds durability, making it a solid choice for trailers that see rain or the boat ramp. You can count on it to stay dry and keep shining every time you tow.
Mounting this light takes only a 1-1/4" cutout—no brackets or complex hardware. It snaps right into place for a snug fit that won’t rattle loose on the road. The single-wire design grounds through the mounting hardware, so there’s just one wire to connect. That means quicker installs and fewer connections to worry about later.
While designed to illuminate license plates, this light can also double as a compartment, courtesy, or general utility light. Its compact size and sealed housing make it handy anywhere you need clear white light in a small space. With a low power draw of 0.35 amps at 12V, it’s efficient too—ready for all kinds of lighting needs around your trailer.

Take a look at the Peterson Sealed Chrome Snap-In License Plate or Utility Light. This is a chrome-plated steel lite that'll snap into a 1-1/4-inch diameter hole. It's commonly used to illuminate a license plate on step bumpers, does require two units for legal license illumination, but it can also be used as a interior light, compartment light, courtesy light, or general illumination utility light. Does have a 5-1/2-inch wire lead. It's a black wire for power. Then, when you do snap this in, it snaps into a metal surface, so that's the ground.
I am going to hook this up at the end of the video just to show you how that works and how it lights up.Give the overall diameter on the light itself. From edge to edge, it's going to be right at 1-1/2 inches. Total depth from the very front of the light to the very back, it's right at 2 inches. Again, the design, you can see here, it'll snap into a 1-1/4-inch diameter hole. What we're going to do now is I got some 12-volt power here. We'll go ahead and hook the wire up, and you can see we're going to hook the power to the black wire, and then we're going to take the ground and hook it to one of these snap-in clips.
That's what'll go into the metal surface when you install it. Then, we'll go ahead and turn the power on, and you can see with it on, it lights it up. I'll go ahead and turn off the overhead lights, and you can see, gives you a nice, bright light to light up your license plate, and then we'll go turn back on the overhead lights, disconnect the power. That should do it for the review on the Peterson Sealed Chrome Snap-In License Plate or Utility Light.
