When you’re launching in saltwater or towing through wet conditions, rust is the enemy. This Dexter Trailer Idler Hub is marine-grade and built with a galvanized zinc finish that’s been tested to withstand 500 hours of continuous salt spray exposure. That means it holds up far better than standard painted hubs and keeps corrosion at bay whether you’re in saltwater or freshwater.
Durability matters when you’re carrying weight over long hauls. This hub fits 6,000-lb axles with #42 spindles and has a 3,000-lb capacity per hub. The iron construction adds strength and stability, giving you a solid setup for dependable towing mile after mile.
Getting bearing races seated evenly can be a pain if you’re doing it by hand. This hub saves that step because both the inner race (25520) and outer race (15245) come pre-installed at the factory. Just add your bearings, grease seal, cap, and lug nuts, and it’s ready to go without special tools.
Swapping hubs is easier when the specs match what you already know. This hub uses a standard 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern with 1/2"-diameter x 2-1/4"-long wheel studs. It works with wheel sizes from 16" to 18-1/2", making it a simple replacement or upgrade without guesswork.
This hub uses inner bearing 25580 (1.75" ID) and outer bearing 15123 (1.25" ID), both common sizes for mid-weight axles. Combined with grease seals like the 10-10 or 10-36 (sold separately), it’s a tried-and-true setup that keeps your wheels running smooth on every trip.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Dexter galvanized trailer idler hub for 6,000 pound axles. It has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this is a marine-grade trailer hub which will fit idler axles. This has a nice zinc plating on it, gives you a 500-hour salt spray rating so it is ideal for use on a boat or snowmobile trailer and it is durable enough for saltwater applications. Now, this will include both the inner bearing race and the outer bearing race.
They are all pre-installed. It will require the bearings, the grease seal, the grease cap, and lug nuts which we do sell separately on our website. And we do list them on this product page of what part numbers you need. Now, this is a sturdy iron construction. This part is made in the USA.
Application, we mentioned this fits 6,000 pound trailer axles with the number 42 spindles. The wheel size that'll fit on this hub is 16 inches and larger. The bolt pattern is a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. And the wheel stud size is a half inch diameter. So the lug nuts you use on this will be the half inch by 20 size lug nuts.
Weight capacity on this hub is 3,000 pounds. So when this is used with one on the other side of the axle, it meets the 6,000 pound trailer axle rating. But that should do it for the review on the Dexter galvanized trailer idler hub for 6,000 pound axles with the 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

Needed 2 sets for a boat trailer and went went electric over hydraulic at the same time. Boat is trailering better then ever. Thinking of going with a similar setup on my toy hauler, I'm that happy with the set up. The install was easer then expected, other then needing to run hydraulic lines, it was as easy as a normal brake job on the trailer. Not having ot remove the hubs every time I need to do matinance on the brakes, makes it worth the price for me.
Quality hub assembly that fit perfect on my trailer.
Everything went together well and have been able to use boat trailer for multiple fishing trips this year and haven't had any problems. I would definitely recommend etrailer parts and knowledge base to complete your project. Very Happy.
Overall I would rate this product as good. My only issue with them is that the hub cap is really thin and cheap. It basically caved-in during installation. I would recommend buying a better set of hub covers if you purchase these hub kits.
was only going to replace the bearings and races but replacing the entire hub assembly was so much easier and not that much more cash. Packed the bearings, banged on the seals, bolted them on..done! And it was all galvenized to boot.
Haven’t installed products yet but the order was filled perfectly. Tire manufacture dates were both 2025 but they were about 6 months apart where I prefer them to match. All in all very please with the order and the service
I needed a wheel hub for a jet ski trailer, but wasn’t getting anywhere with determining the correct fit. Joshua T. helped me find the right one. He was extremely personable, patient, and above all- knowledgeable about his products. A pleasure to deal with, and I will definitely use E-Trailer for all my trailer parts needs.
All parts ordered, 2 wheel hubs and bearings, 2 galvanized rims and bearing buddies all arrived in good shape. All parts mounted and work as expected. Etrailer.com is an excellent place to buy parts for a reasonable price.
Great products prices and fast delivery. I ordered 5 tires and rims plus a set of lights all items were at my door in less than a week mounted balanced and ready to install. They were shipped half way across the country.
Can’t go wrong with etrailer parts everything works good and customer service is excellent.
I have not yet installed them but have unpacked and took measurements. The only issue I have is the grease seal ID is .25 to large but that is most likely my fault during the order, I have the right size grease seals coming.
The hub is solid and the bearings fit real nice, no slop. This is for a boat trailer which goes back and forth to a very rural camp so it gets bounced around a lot, time will tell how these hold up. The original hub and bearings are ok and will be my field spare should I need it, slip one hub off and the other on, tighten and go. I like the stud with lug nut to hold the rim rather than original bolt into the hub, easier for tire mounting and I can put a locking lug nut on as well, personal preference.
This seemed to be the most cost effective means, all one package, just watch the size of the individual parts to make sure you get all the parts the correct size.
etrailer.com packed the parts well, nothing flopping around or damaged.
No complaints, now the dirty part, replacing the old with new.
This place is a joke. Called to place order, the help was fine, but I paid for fast shipping because I needed it and a hurry and my parts didn’t even ship out till the day they were supposed to arrive.
Everything was in the box except the bearings. Customer service is shipping the bearings. Just inconvenient.
Sarah was a great help I almost ordered the wrong one so thank you !!
All the customer personal were great but got one of hubs the was not sealed like the other 3, the race was rusted and bearing bent . Also the seals were incorrect. Paula S have me the part number for the seals and race so I could get them locally. I’m driving to Weast coast with this trailer tomorrow so no time to wait for etrailer to ship replacement parts
I live in California and my shipment was sent to Boston Mass. The rep told me that when they find it in Boston , they would have it sent from there to California, which would take another five days. I needed it in three days as they promised not in eight. Horrible that customer service thought this was adequate.
great service, dealt with John......He did a great job, will buy from them in future. !! Thank you !!
Hubs and parts arrived in good condition. All parts fit my spindle no issues here, hope these last as long as my old one (20+years).
Holding up great on the boat trailer been pulled regularly no issues
Hubs were easy to assemble and install. etrailer provides detailed instructions and video links as well. Customer service is outstanding. Hubs have performed without issues
I carry one as a spare...you only break what you don't carry, right?
Dexter equipment is great stuff and worth every dollar.
Dose this not come with the bearings?
I live in Washington and fish in Puget Sound. I have a boat that I use in salt water. I launch the boat several times a week in the summer season. The trailer hubs are constantly in and out of the salt water. I replace the bearings and sometimes the hubs every couple of years. This is the first time that I have tried galvanized hubs. I have high hopes that they last longer than non-galvanized hubs.
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

Correct, the bearings do not come with this idler hub. It is just the hub, you will have to purchase the bearings separately. Check out part # BK3-110, this will have both the inner and outer bearings.
