Features to know about

Threaded Replacement for Dexter Vortex Hubs

A failed oil bath hub leaves you with a spindle that standard hubs will not fit. This idler hub uses a compatible pilot design built to replace Dexter Vortex hubs and fits 7,000-lb axles with #42 spindles. You can remove the oil bath setup and convert to grease on the existing axle configuration.

Galvanized Steel Construction

Repeated water exposure eats painted steel. This hub uses corrosion-resistant galvanized steel suited for boat and snowmobile trailers, holding up through launch cycles instead of surface rust taking over.

Long Wheel Studs for Brake and Wheel Fitment

Thick wheel mounting pads and over-the-hub brake rotors require more thread engagement. The 1/2 inch diameter x 2-1/2 inch long studs with 1/2 inch-20 bolt size provide the added length needed for those setups. You avoid running short on threads during final torque.

Trailer Idler Hub

This hub includes inner race 25520 and outer race 14276. Inner bearing 25580, outer bearing 14125A, grease seal GS-2250DL, grease cap, and lug nuts are sold separately.

Determining The Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this D-Max Galvanized Trailer Idler hub for your 7,000 pound trailer axles. This marine gray trailer hub is gonna be a great replacement option for your Dexter Vortex hubs. This is made from galvanized steel, so this is built to handle harsh, wet environments. So this is gonna be perfect for a boat or snowmobile trailer where corrosion resistance really matters for you.

This is designed for your 7,000 pound trailer axles that use the number 42 spindle. And this does have an eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern. And each wheel bolt is half an inch in diameter and two and a half inches long, which means that they're long enough to fit setups like over the hub brake rotors or custom wheels that have thicker mounting surfaces. This hub has a 3,500 pound weight capacity. The races are already pressed in, so that's one less step for you to worry about, but you will need to pick up the bearings, grease seal and grease cap separately.

So on your screen, I am including the numbers for the inner, the outer bearings and then the seal. And we have all these items available here at etrailer. Actually, if you check the related products tab on this product page, you should be able to find all the other related items that you need for this and you can add them to your cart if you don't already have them. So this hub is gonna give you a durable, corrosion resistant solution for marine or winter trailer use. And with the Dexter Vortex compatibility, it's gonna be an easy fitment and it's gonna have a solid load capacity.

So this is gonna let you be that a replacement idler hub that you're looking for if this meets the specs that you're looking for. If you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this or anything else that we carry, don't hesitate to reach out. We do wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
