Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

When replacing your trailer fender, do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one. If your fender was damaged in a blowout, you can use the opposite fender to get the right measurements. Before you get started, always chock your wheels for safety. If you are installing a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware if possible, but be prepared to replace any bolts or screws that are stripped or rusted. If you need to remove an old, welded-on fender, you can carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop for professional removal. Do not forget to prime and paint the new fender to prevent rust and match your trailer's finish. Before drilling any holes, position the fender exactly where you want it and center it over your wheel well, marking your spots carefully. Measure twice and drill once. Finally, wait to fully tighten down the mounting hardware until you are sure the fender is mounted just right.

Video Transcript for Review of CE Smith Trailer Fenders - No Step - CES73WR

Hi everyone, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our single axle Jeep-style fender. for your trailer. It's gonna fit 8 to 12" wheels and you're gonna get one fender with purchase. So if you need more than one, make sure you update the quantity. Now folks, Jeep-style fenders are gonna be great for covering one tire on that single axle trailer.

They do block road debris from hitting other vehicles and also from hitting your cargo or stuff on the trailer itself. Now this is what they consider a Jeep design, classic Jeep design, and it gives it a nice rugged look for the trailer. And in this case, you can either weld or bolt this on for installation. Now this would require drilling of holes and purchasing mounting brackets sold separately if you're going to bolt it in place. Some quick dimensions on this.

I find it's easier to measure when it's upside down, so I'll go and flip it over here. Overall, on a width, I got right about 8 1/2. And then from outside to outside, I'm getting right at about 24. I know we've got a couple of these and they vary slightly overall, just depends on when they formed them. But between 23 3/4 and to 24," somewhere in there is about what you're gonna get.

Keep in mind these can be flexed a little bit and stuff. And as far as a height, when it's on a flat surface, I got right at 7" tall. Now at the fender that you are replacing is damaged, then you want to use the opposite side to get your measurement and your dimensions. And one final thing before we go, keep in mind, these are not even prime anything, they're just plain metal. So you're gonna have a little coat of like an oil on these when you get 'em.

So just keep that in mind. You wanna make sure you wipe all that off, clean it off with maybe some brake cleaner, parts cleaner, sold into something before you prime, and then paint it to get that finished look and to keep it lasting years and years. Well folks that will wrap it up for our look together. I'm Steven if you got any questions or concerns or if you just wanna send some photos of these installed, reach out to us. We're more than happy to take those photos and assist you with any questions, have a good one.
