A few inches at the front of your trailer can be the difference between storing it inside and leaving it outside. This weld-on swing tongue kit is designed for a 3" x 5" tongue and folds for storage, helping your trailer fit in your garage.
Many trailers miss fitting indoors by only a small amount at the front. This swing tongue kit lets your trailer tongue fold for storage, reducing the front footprint after parking and creating the clearance needed to use your garage. By making indoor storage possible, it can also help protect your trailer from weather exposure and keep it ready for the next trip.
Swing tongue kits aren't one-size-fits-all. This kit is intended for 3" x 5" trailer tongue applications and includes a matching pivot box sized for that dimension. Your trailer gets a folding tongue setup built around the correct tongue size instead of adapting a universal hinge.
This is a weld-on assembly that becomes part of your trailer tongue after installation. Once the tongue is cut and welded, the folding section remains integrated into the structure while continuing to provide the storage flexibility that drives most swing tongue upgrades.
Included hinge plates, pivot box, mounting hardware, and hitch pin create the folding joint. The hinge assembly is built around Dexter's standard swing tongue design, with matched hinge components. The 5/8" x 5" hitch pin locks the tongue in position when folded for storage.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Dexter standard swing tongue kit. Now if you're looking for a way to make storing your trailer easier, this swing tongue assembly is going to be a practical upgrade for you. This is going to allow the trailer tongue to fold to the side after you've parked, reducing the trailer's overall storage length so it can fit more easily in a garage or other tight storage space. Now this model is designed specifically for trailers with a three-by-five-inch tongue and it uses Dexter's standard swing tongue design.
This assembly includes a matched pivot box and hinge plate that are welded directly onto the trailer tongue. That's going to create a strong permanent part of the trailer's frame once it's installed. And then when you're ready to tow, the tongue is going to swing back into place and it's secured with the included 5/8 of an inch by five-inch hitch pin. And when it's time to store the trailer, simply remove the pin, fold the tongue over, and reinsert the pin to keep it securely in the folded position. This assembly is constructed from heavy duty steel.
It comes with a raw finish, so it's going to be ideal for fabrication shops or custom trailer builds where it can be welded in place and then painted or coated to match the trailer afterwards. This includes a match pivot box, as I said, hinge plate and the hitch pin, and the hinge plate hole centers measures about 4.5 inches. This is also compatible with trailer tongue setups to use the approved actuator assemblies, making this a good option for many surge brake trailer applications provided that the actuator is approved for use, for use on a swing tongue.
