Added the extension because I am now towing my Yakima trailer with a sport utility vehicle with the spare tire mounted on the back door so I needed the extra length. I also wanted to be about to open the back of the truck with kayaks attached. The extension was perfect and it also rode much better with the added length. I had no side-to-side sway at 65 mph with four kayaks (two 14ft and two 12 ft) and three surf boards. I used to get a pretty decent amount of sway before. Glad I finally invested in this. 89542

Tongue extender for Yakima Rack & Roll trailer. Extender appears to be made of quality material. The internal electrical extension was installed in the tongue backwards, necessitating a removal and rethreading. The instructions didn't mention the presence of a ground wire that had to be connected to the frame on the existing cable harness. Since it was neither mentioned, nor shown in the instruction photos, I foolishly ignored it, and of course the lights didn't work. I had to pull out enough of the harness to splice onto the ground line, then re-pull harness and ground into the tongue. Of course the head of the ground screw twisted off and I had to drill a new hole in the tongue (what is it made of?) for a new ground screw. After all this aggravation the lights worked! I'm happy with the final installation, but feel the directions were serious deficient in discussing the grounding issue. 671679

  • How to Carry a Kayak and a Canoe with a 2016 Ram 1500
  • We have a couple of different options for you to haul a kayak and canoe with your 2016 Dodge Ram. One way to haul your kayak and canoe is with a truck bed ladder rack. I recommend going with the TracRac TracONE Ladder Rack # TA27000XTB. This is rated for 800 lbs so you can use it for more than just hauling your kayak and canoe. It is made of aluminum so it is strong and rustproof but also lightweight. You will need to use pads, like the Thule Surf Pad # TH804, to load your kayaks on...

  • Carrying an 18-1/2 Foot Canoe and Tandem Bike on a 2018 Toyota Highlander with Factory Roof Rack
  • There are canoe carriers that work with the bar spread of 27-1/2 inches on your 2018 Toyota Highlander. The Swagman Exo Aero # S65145 requires a minimum of 24 inches of bar spread. But I understand what you are saying. The canoe is so long you will need extra support. If your Highlander has a 2 inch trailer hitch or if you added one such as # e98844 you could then use a load extender such as the Yakima LongArm # Y01149 or MaxxTow extender # MT70231. These will essentially add a third...

  • Recommended Tongue Extension For Yakima Rack And Roll Trailer For 16-1/2 Ft Canoe
  • To be on the safe side I recommend the Tongue Extension Kit for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08109. This is designed to allow you to be able to carry longer boats on the Ranck and Roll Trailer without having to shift the canoe one way or the other. Using this extension will allow you to be able to carry a boat up to 22 feet long. The crossbars on the Rack and Roll trailer can be spread a maximum distance of 48 inches, and the distance from the center of the coupler to the center...

  • Parts Needed to Mount Kayaks on the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08107
  • On the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer, # Y08107, you will want to use a compatible kayak carrier unless you do not mind the kayaks sitting directly on the bars. I recommend a couple sets of foam blocks, # SR5525, because they are cost effective and they come with bow and stern tie downs to secure the kayaks to the trailer. If your kayaks are longer than 17 feet, you will want to add the tongue extension, # Y08109, so the kayaks do not make contact with the tow vehicle. I have included...

  • Yakima Rack and Roll Tongue Extension Kit 8008109
  • The Tongue Extension Kit for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08109 adds 3 feet of overall length to your Rack and Roll Trailer like # Y08107. I reached out to my contact at Yakima and they said they acquired the trailer in 2009 and it was being made back in 2006 and they have had no problems with the screws you mentioned having any issues whatsoever. He said they haven't considered changing it because they have not experienced any issues. If you were to alter it by drilling and putting...

  • Can Kayak Be Stored On Rack And Roll Trailer
  • You should have no problem storing your kayak on the racks of the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08107. The tongue can be easily removed to provide more room when storing your trailer. The trailer can handle up to 250 lbs so any weight consideration should pose no issues when storing your kayak.. If a longer tongue is needed, I recommend a Tongue Extension Kit,part # Y08109. This attaches simply to your Rack and Roll trailer and extends the tongue an additional 3 ft. If you...

  • Dimensions of the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, HD Shock Upgrades, and Tongue Extensions
  • From the ground to the top of the crossbars when the the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, # Y08106, is level, it measures 22 inches. The Heavy Duty Shocks, # Y08110, is using the terms shocks as an all encompassing term that covers the shock itself and the springs for greater capacity. If you were to use the 6 foot extension, # Y08109, it comes with a wiring harness routed through the extension. One end of it connects to the existing wiring on the trailer and the other end would then connect...

  • Can Thule Square Load Bars be Used on Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, Part # Y08107
  • My contact at Yakima confirms that the Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08107, is compatible with Class I, II and III hitches and since late 2010 comes standard with a 2-inch coupler. Originally the trailer was supplied with a 1-7/8 coupler and a running production change was made to move to the 2-inch. Yakima will supply at no charge a bolt-on 2-inch coupler, part # Y08123, to customers that receive a 1-7/8 unit and need the larger size. However, recent production should have a 2-inch coupler. • How to Carry 2 Heavy Kayaks with a 2015 Subaru Outback
  • The only solution I can recommend for you that will allow you to transport 2 kayaks that weight 92 lbs each would be to go with a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer # Y08106 with the tongue extender # Y08109 which is needed for the length of your kayaks. The roof capacity of your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon isn't high enough for what you are trying to do so I can't recommend anything that would allow you to exceed this figure. First let's start with a hitch. For that you will want the Draw-Tite...

  • How Long of a Kayak Will Fit Yakima Rack and Roll Trailers
  • The Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, # Y08107 for the 78 inch or # Y08106 for the 66 inch can handle either one 17 foot kayak or two 16 foot kayaks. Extension are available for longer kayaks. Using extension # Y08109 you will be able to carry up to one 22 foot kayak or two 21 foot kayaks.

  • How to Transport a Canoe/Kayak Longer than 16 Feet with Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer
  • To carry boats longer than 16 feet with the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer part # Y08106 all you need is the tongue extension part # Y08109 which allows you to carry (1) 22' or (2) 21' boats. The combined width of your two canoes is 1 inch wider than the crossbars of the Y08106. They should still fit and work just fine.

  • Trailer Recommendation to Carry Two 18 Foot, 3 Inch Long Kayaks
  • There isn't a tongue extension for Malone trailer # MPG525G to carry longer boats but you could go with a Yakima trailer and add an extension. You can use Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer - 66" Item # Y08106 with Tongue Extension Kit for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08109. This will allow you to carry kayaks up to 21 foot long kayaks.

  • Can Longer Ball Mount/Extender be Used Instead of Tongue Extender on Yakima Rack'n'Roll Trailer
  • You could use a hitch extender or a longer ball mount with the Yakima Rack'n'Roll trailer # Y08107. However there are a couple of issues. First, a hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. this may not be an issue though considering the trailer is rated for just 250 pounds. Depending on the length needed though there may not be an extension long enough. The same goes for a longer ball mount; at least if used by itself. The longest fixed ball mount...

  • Tie Down Strap Recommendation for Securing 2 Kayaks on Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer
  • If you use the Tongue Extension Kit # Y08109 along with your Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08107 then you will be able to transport your two 18-foot kayaks provided their combined weight does not exceed the trailer's limit of 250-lbs. If you need to add weight capacity to the trailer, use Yakima's heavy-duty shock kit # Y08110 which increases total load carrying to 350-lbs. The tongue extension does not include cargo tie-down points but a ratcheting strap like # 1154000 will help secure the...

  • Will 2 Kayaks Fits on the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer
  • The Yakima Rack and Roll trailer # Y08106 can hold 2 kayaks. If you are placing them directly on the bars as long as combined they are not more than 66 inches wide then they will fit directly on the bars. But what I recommend is to use the Yakima BigStack, # Y04041, on the trailer to hold the 2 Kayaks on their sides. This will ensure you have enough space for both kayaks. I have included a link to the installation details for the BigStack for you. I have also included a link to a video...

  • Is a Tongue Extension Needed for a 17 Foot Boat on a Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer
  • One 17 foot boat is the maximum length for the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer # Y08107. I would try it out without an extension to see if there is going to be any issues. You will probably want to use a 17 foot long stand-in for the boat just in case when you test it out. If you do need the extension it is # Y08109.
