Features to know about

Powerful Braking for Heavy Loads: 20,000-lb Surge-Type Design

This actuator is built for serious towing with up to 20,000 lbs GTW and 2,000 lbs maximum tongue weight. Its surge-type hydraulic system activates smoothly when the tow vehicle slows down, delivering reliable pressure to disc brakes without delay. The aluminum master cylinder is heavy-duty and rustproof, which keeps it working efficiently under high pressure and rough conditions.

Easy Backing and Parking: Built-In Electric Reverse Lockout

Backing into a tight spot is simple thanks to the built-in electric reverse lockout. The solenoid automatically engages when you shift into reverse so the trailer brakes won’t grab or drag. It wires through a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or 7-pole connector and works automatically every time, letting you maneuver easily without extra steps or manual pins.

Simple Hookup Every Time: EZ-Latch Coupler Mechanism

The EZ-Latch coupler design means you don’t have to hold back a latch or wrestle with alignment. Just drop the coupler over the hitch ball and it snaps securely into place. Hookups and disconnects are quick and smooth, with a solid connection that stays put on the road.

Flexible Setup Options: 8" Adjustable Channel with 3 Positions

The adjustable channel gives you three mounting positions so you can bolt on different coupler attachments (sold separately) like a ball coupler, lunette ring, or clevis. It makes it easy to match your trailer height for level towing. The channel measures about 3" wide and 8" tall, giving plenty of room for setup changes as your needs evolve.

Built to Last: Primed Steel Body with Breakaway Protection

The steel construction is primed for welding onto a 50-degree A-frame trailer and ready for paint once mounted. A built-in breakaway system with a safety cable and snap hook adds security by engaging the brakes if the trailer ever disconnects. With its primed finish and sealed internal components, it’s made to handle long hauls and heavy use without corrosion or leaks.

Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Lockout

Today we're going to take a look at the Demco A-Frame Hydraulic Brake Actuator with the electric lockout. This is for disc brakes. It has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. The adjustable channel right here on the front of this brake actuator allow for ultimate versatility. Basically you can mount almost any type of coupler here from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or a clevis attachment to fit your application.

In addition, you can see the multiple holes here, so it'll give you 3 different mounting positions on the channel. It'll let you adjust the height of your coupler. Basically, just place your coupler right in here so it matches the height of your ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you'll be able to tow the trailer level. On the very back here, you see underneath this protector here, there is an electric reverse lockout solenoid. Now, this will let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. The solenoid will activate automatically when you shift into reverse.

Now, you do need to know that to use this lockout feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or a 7-way trailer connector, and you'll notice there's 2 wires coming off the solenoid. They're both black wires. Those connections, one would go to a ground, the other would go to your reverse light circuit, and they're both black wires, so it doesn't matter which one goes to which. Now that solenoid is actually screwed into a nice heavy-duty aluminum master cylinder that's underneath here. It's very durable, rust-proof and efficient. It's built for high pressure applications and allows about 50% greater displacement than your standard master cylinders.

Now on the inside of this actuator, it uses an acetal copolymer lining to provide a nice, smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out. The breakaway, you can see right here, is included, has a snap hook right here on the safety cable to ensure a secure connection for the breakaway level. It's made of a durable steel construction, has a nice prime finish. It is a weld-on installation. This part is made in the USA, and you can see the application for this is a 50 degree A-frame trailer with hydraulic disc brakes. Again, the gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds, maximum tongue weight capacity is 2,000 pounds.

This also goes by the model number of DA20. I do want to give you a couple of measurements. We're going to give you the channel width, right in here, that your coupler would mount into. It's going to be 3 inches wide, and the channel height, which will go from here to the very top is going to be right at 8 inches for the channel height. That should do it for the review on the Demco A-Frame Hydraulic Brake Actuator with the electric lockout for disc brakes and a 20,000 pound weight capacity.

Heavy duty. Bigger and heavier in person. Feel confident with that trailer behind you. Worry about other things instead of your trailer.
Nice quality.

Arrived in good condition, although box was in bad shape. Just got it and disassembled to fit up and weld on 1978 Airstream 31' Excello 500. Will have to reposition jack and possibly propane tank mounts. This trailer originally had a vacuum brake booster. will update when installed.

I received the coupler on time but was missing the reverse solenoid. My installation was a little unique do to replacing a super short Atwood unit. I also had to modify the channel as well, you may not have to for your application.

by:

unit is heavy duty
arrived promptly

replaced actuator on utility trailer, updated frame and axles, was time to complete with correct weight actuator,, went from 7k to 12.5k and has by pass for auto back up anti lock.. this is mcuh better than non by-pass type

  • Looking For A-Frame Surge Brake Coupler For Disc Brakes
Hello Thor, cool name. Our only option for that is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Lockout # DM8105422. This will work with disc brakes and will fit your A-frame. You just need to get the ball coupler piece separately, such as the Demco Slide-Lok Trailer Coupler # DM05557-97 which is for a 2-5/16" trailer ball. This coupler is also available in a 20K capacity as part # DM8205222. Feel free to reach out with any other questions or if there is anything else you need.

  • How To Replace Surge Brake Shocks On Demco Actuator On 2004 Heritage Boat Trailer
Thank you for the image of your setup Steve. I do not know what the manufacturer was thinking when they welded in the Demco Actuator on your boat trailer. With how it was installed there is no way for you to access that rear pin without drilling a hole through the frame. They should have installed either the Disc # DM8205222 or Drum # DM8202232 brake actuator which would sit on top of the A-Frame and allow you to access all components of the hitch. If you decide this is the best way to...

  • Parts Needed to Convert to 3,500 lb Over-The-Hub Disc Brakes
Thanks for the photos, and based on them we do have what you need, which are over-the-hub disc brakes. The only thing you will need to verify is that you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern on your hub; it looks like you do but you'll want to be sure by measuring from the center of your hub's wheel stud hole to the farthest edge of the opposite stud. If that measures 4-1/2 inches you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. I have also added a link below to a printable bolt hole template. Assuming...
