A basic factory cap does the job, but it doesn't give you much extra protection. Upgrade to an aluminum Hydro-Shield cap that seals out water and grit, while the clear lens lets you check lubricant before the next haul.
A standard oil bath or grease cap closes off the hub, but this Hydro-Shield cap gives you more protection and easier access for maintenance. Its aluminum construction, waterproof sealing system, clear viewing window, and side service port make it a substantial upgrade when you want more from the cap already on your axle.

Water and road grit can work their way past a basic cap and contaminate the lubricant around your bearings. The O-ring, gasket, precision threading, and Hydro-Shield vent plug create a waterproof barrier around the hub. The red button in the vent plug works as a check valve, releasing built-up pressure while keeping water from entering through the vent. That extra protection matters when your trailer sees heavy rain, muddy job sites, road spray, or repeated trips to the boat ramp.
The crystal-clear window gives you a direct view of your oil or grease level, so a quick look can become part of your normal trailer inspection. During maintenance, the magnetic plug also gives you another useful checkpoint by collecting metal particles that can indicate unusual bearing or axle wear.
You don't have to remove the entire cap just to service the lubricant. The side access port gives you a direct place to add or drain oil or grease, reducing the amount of disassembly during routine maintenance and leaving the cap and its seals in place.

Hi everyone, Steven here with etrailer. Let's take a look at our Valcrum Hydro Shield, waterproof. It's aluminum, it's an oil or a grease cap for nine to 15,000 pound axles. So folks with this, you are gonna get amazing waterproof protection. It uses a tight O-ring included, a gasket and precision threading that's gonna lock out water, road grime, while the red button here in the front is also a vent plug that works as a check valve. So this will let built up pressure escape, and it's also gonna keep water from ever getting in.
So this is a direct fit replacement, meaning it can replace your factory oil bath, grease caps, O-ring, and plug for select axles. And what's cool about this also is you have a drain and fill plug here, that is magnetized, it has a little magnet built in there, which I like because it's gonna catch little shavings or anything like that that's potentially in there swirling around. And it has a clear viewing lens, so you can easily look in there and say, "Oh, I don't have that milky, watery dirty oil. Everything looks great, crisp, clean, and now I know I'm good to go on these long hauls." And that's gonna be great for safety and longevity of your equipment. So one of the biggest things, in my opinion, from what I've talked to with the installers here at etrailer, most people just don't do preventative maintenance, unfortunately, and that's potentially what causes a lot of bearing failures and those kind of things.
Even if you're not using your trailer constantly, you always, always wanna check your bearings and your seals and everything at least once a year, if not more, to make sure everything's going good and looks good and clean. I'm am looking forward to see if they work as advertised. I tow a 40'boat all the time and have had nothing but bearing problems. Water has been getting into the bearings rusting and destroying them. Staff was a great help as well.
