Features to know about

Built for ABS Tow Assist Safety

When traffic suddenly slows and every second counts, Dexter's ABS Tow Assist brakes step in. Each assembly has a built-in ABS wiring harness that talks directly with your Tow Assist system, helping prevent wheel lockup and keeping your trailer stable under hard braking. The same system also applies selective braking to help reduce trailer sway, giving you more confidence and control during highway cruising and in emergency stops.

No Manual Adjustments, Ever

Traditional brakes need regular tweaking as the shoes wear down. With Dexter's Nev-R-Adjust system, these assemblies take care of themselves. A tensioning cable inside keeps the shoes aligned for peak stopping power mile after mile, so you spend less time wrenching and more time towing.

Straightforward Electric Setup

No actuators, no hydraulic lines, just connect to your in-cab brake controller and reinitialize your Dexter Tow Assist system after installation. Once reset, the integrated ABS sensors sync automatically, giving you reliable braking performance with minimal upkeep.

Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Trailer Brakes - Nev R Adjust Electric 12 Inch LR ABS Tow Assist - DX63WR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a quick look at these Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric 12-inch Left and Right Hand Trailer Brakes for your Dexter ABS Tow Assist. Now these driver- and passenger-side electric trailer brakes are 12 inches by two inches, and they are made for your Tow Assist ABS hub and drum assemblies. So these are going to fit your 14 1/2, 15, 16, and 16 1/2-inch wheels. And these brakes are built for the Dexter ABS-equipped 7K axles with a 5-bolt mounting flange.

So this does, both of these assemblies do include this wiring harness that's going to plug into the sensor that communicates with the ABS Tow Assist from Dexter to reduce wheel lockup, improve trailer control, and help mitigate sway. And as you probably know, electric brakes are typically easier to install, and they offer more user control than hydraulic brakes and they require only an electric brake controller, so no actuator or hydraulic lines to worry about. And then if you notice here on the brake pads, let me turn this one around here so you can see, the automotive-grade friction material is molded to the brake shoes. So they're fully bonded. If you notice, they're not riveted to the shoes, so that's gonna give you longer life, more braking torque.

There's gonna be less chance of the brake pads crumbling or falling apart, which could lead to mechanical lockup. Now, I'm looking at the left-hand assembly here, and the right-hand assembly is right there. And as you can see, they do have stickers here indicating that, but in case you have an assembly that doesn't have a sticker on there, there is a way to identify which assembly is which. If you look for the shorter brake pad, so right here we see the shorter brake pad, that's the primary pad, and the shorter one always points to the front of the trailer. And then the longer pad always points to the back.

So because the shorter pad is here, this is gonna be primary, it points to the front. So this is going to be the left-hand side or the driver's side of the trailer. On this brake assembly, the shorter pad, or the primary pad, is on this side. So that points to the front, and you can see that that's gonna be on the right-hand side of the trailer, or the passenger side of the trailer. So just in case you did know, that's a good thing to keep in mind.

And again, I wanted to just retrieve my ruler here and show you measuring brake pad to brake pad, 12 inches. And then the width of the pad, two inches. Now I did mention that these are both the Nev-R-Adjust design, so that allows the self-adjusting brakes, the self-adjusting brake shoes to automatically maintain clearance for that consistent stopping power with no manual adjustments. So you can see this cable here goes through the pulley here and it's connected to that adjustment wheel. So you're not gonna have to worry about making those adjustments yourself. So this does include the hardware to secure this to the mounting bolts. You've got five of them, because it's a 5-bolt mounting flange. And then you get these plugs as well, to insert here the openings at the base to keep the assembly free from water and debris. And this is again, obviously for the left and the right, but if you only need one or the other, we've got you covered. We sell the left one by itself and the right one by itself. So I'm including those model numbers there for you in case you for whatever reason, don't need both, you can just take the model number that you need, pop it in the search field of our website and that will take you to that assembly, and you can order that instead. But if you happen to have any other additional questions, whether it's about these assemblies or anything else that we carry, don't hesitate to reach out to us because we do wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you want and need. Well that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

  • Replacement Electric Brakes and Hub/Drum Assemblies
Thanks for your question, Stefanie! There aren’t any hub-and-drum assemblies rated specifically for 6.6K, so based on the info, it’s most likely that you have a 7K axle. I'm not 100% certain on your wheel stud size, but for 7K axles, we typically see either 1/2" or 9/16" studs. Here are the two hub options based on each size: 1/2" studs – part # 42866UC3-EZ 9/16" studs – part # 8-219-13UC3 To go with those hubs, the matching electric brake kit would be part # 23-464-465.
