The DeeMaxx Difference

Close-up image of DeeMaxx disc brake installation

When brakes retain heat, they are more likely to experience brake fade, or loss of braking power. DeeMaxx addresses this problem by incorporating drainage holes in the hat section of each rotor to provide even more ventilation than other brands. Combining these holes with the conventional venting design allows DeeMaxx brakes to disperse heat faster. They're also able to shed moisture better, leading to less internal corrosion. The result is cooler-running, longer-lasting brakes that offer consistent performance.

DeeMaxx brakes are the only trailer brakes to satisfactorily pass the high standards of the SAE J2681 brake test. This test is designed to evaluate the friction performance of automotive brakes, so DeeMaxx's passing grade should tell you just how well made these products are.

Close-up image of DeeMaxx disc brake installation of brackets

The patented design of the caliper mounting bolt and sleeve makes installation easier while ensuring that the sleeves stay in place within the caliper. In addition, the side-support design of the caliper mounting bracket puts all of the weight on the bracket instead of on the bolts. This reduces premature wear and extends the life of the bolts, further ensuring optimal performance.

DeeMaxx brakes perform well even in the most demanding environments, which is one of the many reasons why they are preferred by law enforcement agencies like the Texas State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Coast Guard.

Perfect for Boat Trailers

If you live in a coastal area, or a climate with a lot of snow, slush, and road salt, these brakes are for you. The simple truth is that salt can be highly corrosive to metal when exposure lasts for an extended period of time. So, the more you tow around it, the more you need to protect your trailer from it.

disc brake with signs of heavy rust and corrosion

The Maxx coating on the rotors and brackets in this kit helps to ensure that DeeMaxx brakes don't end up looking like the one pictured above. It offers great corrosion protection, even with occasional use in saltwater. Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. Zinc plating typically begins to deteriorate after about 100 hours. Dacromet usually lasts for around 300 to 400 hours. DeeMaxx's Maxx coating lasts for more than 1,000 hours in the salt spray test.

The environment this test creates is much harsher than anything you'll ever experience in your journeys, but it provides a testament to how well DeeMaxx brakes resist rust and corrosion.

This particular kit not only features the premier Maxx coating, but it also includes calipers made of stainless steel. And you can't get better than stainless when it comes to corrosion resistance. So if you sometimes launch your boat in saltwater, or if you live way up north where salted roads are the norm for a chunk of the year, you'll get the protection you need with this kit.

Get a Safer, More Comfortable Ride

Say goodbye to the days of your truck being pushed and pulled by your trailer. Disc brakes provide a safer, more comfortable ride than drum brakes. They offer shorter stopping distances and deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds. So, you won't have to worry about things crashing around in your trailer or camper next time you reach unexpected traffic on the highway or debate if you can actually stop before that yellow light turns red.

Save Time and Money

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes. Not only do disc brakes provide more controlled braking than drum brakes, but they also save you money by having fewer parts to maintain.

side-by-side comparison of an electric drum brake and a hydraulic disc brake

Unlike drum brakes, which have springs, magnets, and shoes that may need to be continually adjusted or replaced, disc brakes are virtually maintenance-free. There are no springs, cables, or other little components that you'll need to worry about failing.

close-up image of DeeMaxx disc brake caliper parts

The brake pads will naturally wear down, so eventually you'll have to replace them. But these pads are also way easier to replace than drum brake shoes. And the caliper - where the pads are housed - is located on the outside of the brake assembly. This means you just have to remove that one part to replace the brake pads rather than having to remove the entire assembly like you would with drum brakes.

This particular kit can save you time and money over other disc brakes on the market as well. A slip-on rotor may be easier to install initially, but water can find its way between the rotor and your existing hub, causing uneven rotor wear or runout. With a 1-piece hub-and-rotor assembly, water and debris can't get in to cause any corrosion or contamination.

instructions on how to bleed brakes laser etched into the back of a DeeMaxx disc brake caliper

DeeMaxx also has simple instructions for bleeding the brakes laser-etched on the back of the calipers. This convenient time saver means you'll always have the guidance you need on hand when the time comes for maintenance.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

If you want to remount your existing wheels after installing these brakes, you'll need a kit that offers the same bolt pattern. To determine the bolt pattern, count the number of bolt holes (or lug nuts) on your trailer's wheel. This will give you the first number in the pattern. To find the second number, just measure the distance between a bolt hole and the bolt hole across from it.

diagram showing how to measure even bolt pattern

For example, on wheels with an even number of bolt holes: 6 on 5-1/2" means 6 bolt holes with 5-1/2" from the center of 1 hole to the center of the hole across from it.

And with an odd number of bolt holes: 5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" from the center of 1 hole to the farthest edge of one of the 2 farthest bolt holes.

Video Transcript for Review of DeeMaxx Trailer Brakes - Hub and Rotor Disc Brake Kit - DE55AR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the DeeMaxx 13 inch hub and rotor assembly kit with the eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern, a 9/16 inch wheel studs for 8,000 pound axles. And this kit has a max coating and a stainless steel coating on the calipers. Now this will let you upgrade your trailer from drum to disc brakes for superior performance. It will include everything laid out here on the table, and we're gonna go through all the pieces here. And I'll start with the hub and rotor assemblies.

This will offer two max coated cast iron hub and rotor assemblies. They come with the bearing races already pre-installed in them. Comes with the two inner bearings, the two outer bearings, the two grease seals, the two easy low, easy lube grease caps that'll tap into the end of the hub right there. And if you notice the lug nuts are included. There's total of 16 9/6 by 18 size lug nuts.

And we mentioned the calipers will be a stainless steel caliper. Comes with the brake pads installed, the installation bolts included, and then the max coated caliper mounting brackets that the calipers will attach to two of those. Now this kit will require a hydraulic brake actuator that's rated at 1,500 psi or above and brake lines to activate your brakes. Those items we do sell separately. Now the hub and rotor assembly, they are a one piece design that will reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear.

The vented design, if you can see the vents all the way around the edge here, this vented design will dissipate heat faster to prevent premature brake pad wear. And also, if you notice in the hat section of this hub and rotor, you'll see these holes also. These are drainage holes that allow water to drain easily to help further minimize corrosion. Now this is excellent for occasional use in salt water area or areas with lots of snow slush and road salt. We mentioned the corrosion resistant max coat finishes on the hub and rotors on the caliper mounting brackets.

And on the calipers, they're stainless steel finish. Now the max coating that's on the rotors and the brackets, they do have a salt spray rating of over 1,000 hours. Now this will offer dramatically shorter stopping distances and smooth control braking. Now I also wanted to try to show you the brake pads, which are included on the calipers. You can see them installed there. They are ceramic brake pads to increase your stopping power. And then the piston is a stainless steel piston that is on the inside that activates those pads. It's a two and a quarter inch diameter stainless steel piston that'll provide fast responsive braking. Now this kit does require minimal maintenance, saving you time and money. And what's even nice about this, if you look on the outside of the caliper, you'll see some laser etching. Those are laser etched instructions that'll give take the guesswork out of installing the calipers and bleeding the brakes. Now this kit does fit the Alko 8,000 pound axles with the number 42 spindle. The wheel size that'll fit on these is 16 inches and larger. A bolt pattern is eight on six and a half inches, wheel stud diameter of 9/16 of an inch. Now the rotor diameter is 13 inches. And last thing I wanna show you is on your brake caliper mounting brackets, you'll notice has the four holes. So when you go to install this on your axle, this will bolt to a four bolt brake flange configuration on your axle. But that should do it for our look at the DeeMaxx 13 inch hub and rotor assembly kit, eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern with the 9/16 inch wheel studs for 8,000 pound axles.
