Hi, everyone, Jesse here with etrailer. Today, we'll be taking a look at and I'll show you how to install the back BAKFlip folding hard tonneau cover on our 2026 GMC Canyon. If you're looking for a way to protect whatever you have inside the bed of your truck, not only from the elements but also from prying eyes, this is a good option for you. And as the title says, this is a hard tonneau cover, so that means that you can't just simply come in here with a pocket knife and slice into it. It's also very simple to operate. So I'll open up our tailgate here.

We have these cables on each section that folds that's gonna release it, which means you can, you have a few options, whatever you are unfolding it. So you just need half of your bed available. You can fold it out just like this, or we can go all the way to the cab and lean it against like that. So if you have it folded like this against the cab, you'll just simply hold it into place with these built-in props and tighten that down. That's gonna keep it nice and sturdy once you have both of those installed.

And you can also travel with it in the halfway folded position and just strap it down with the included straps right here. Just get it adjusted out so you can clip it in and then pull that snug. Another nice feature of this tonneau cover is the T slots that are gonna run across both bed rails. This will give you the ability to mount accessories such as a ladder rack or anything that's compatible with those T slots. Really that's about all there is to it, I think, if you are looking for a hard folding tonneau cover, this will be a great option for you.

When it comes to the setup and installation of it, it's honestly a pretty easy process. There's no drilling or anything like that involved. It's just gonna have two rails that clamp into place. If you are looking to see how this gets set up, then follow along and I'll walk you through the process. We'll begin our installation by getting our bulkhead seal installed. So I've already cleaned off our bulkhead with some isopropyl alcohol and we'll just take our seal and start from one side to the other, getting that stuck down, like to stay pretty close to the bedside of that seal. Once you get to the end, you'll just want to cut off your slack with a pair of scissors. Now, we're about ready to install our rail here, but you'll have a piece of foam on the bulkhead side that's covering up our drainage opening. So we'll get our hose slid onto that. And we have a few options here. There's an opening here, we're right here. I'm gonna use this smaller one. You can use a plastic trim tool to get that popped off. And then we'll feed our hose through that. And now, for our brackets, they'll come all assembled like this. But what we'll do is, take that bolt all the way out, set that aside and we will hold onto the one with the slotted opening. And starting towards the cab, about as close as we can go is right here because we have this corner coming out. We're just gonna bend this back. And if you kind of tilt that bracket in, you can push against it and that'll lock it in place. I'll do that with the remaining two brackets. We'll take the other side of our bracket and get that pushed up into our truck. And then on the slotted hole bracket, you'll have two slots. We want to be on that top slot, so it's gonna help everything sit nice and flush for us. We'll get the bolt started and then we can get that slot all lined up. We'll just go through and get each one of these finger-tight for now. Now, once you have all of those finger-tight, we can go through and tighten each one of them down with a half-inch socket. And we don't have to tighten 'em down too hard. The instructions say about 10 foot down. So just get it nice and snug and then we will repeat this process on the other side. Now, on our cover itself, we'll just unfold this quarter piece here and tear off this tape if it's still there 'cause we need to install this. This is gonna allow us to clip our tonneau cover up. But before we bolt it down, you wanna take this seal, peel off the adhesive back, get it all lined up, then press it on. Our clip's gonna be facing this way. We have these threaded sleeves that are gonna go up through the bottom. So we'll get those in place. And then just use two fingers to kinda hold those and get your clip lined up. And we'll just get our two screws started for now. And then just snug them up with a Phillips head screwdriver. So you should be able to tighten those down mostly just by holding it with your finger. But I found that sometimes I get stuck, so I'll just use a pair of pliers to hold that in place and get those tightened down. And again, these don't need to be super tight, they just need to hold on. Now, we'll flip this piece over and we need to install our retainer clamps. So we'll just loosen this up. It's got a carriage bolt on the bottom that's just gonna line up with the T track there. And then we'll snug this up just so it doesn't fall off while we're moving the cover around. I grabbed my neighbor Daniel to help me out. We're just gonna lift this up over our bed, all the way to the cab and just get that kind of lined up and slotted in and we'll still be able to move it back and forth for now. Now, I have our tonneau cover pushed all the way forward, kinda eyeballing it evenly on both sides, and then we'll just unroll it, make sure each section clicks into place and then we'll close our tailgate up. And what we're looking for is a nice, tight seal. So I can see I'm already needing to make an adjustment here because I need to pull it back quite a bit. So I pulled it back and it looks like we have a pretty tight seal. We're pretty even on both sides, almost dead even. So now, what we'll do is, just carefully, go each section at a time. You wanna make sure that you're not moving it or shifting it at all, but we'll carefully fold it back up. That way, we can get under it and tighten down those clamps. So now, we'll kind of have to climb in here and just loosen up your knob a little bit and that way, we can get it kind of locked in. You'll see a slot on the clamp itself and then we'll tighten that down. Next step is, we'll fold this up and just kind of eyeball where this might make contact with our cab. Make sure you don't push it too hard against it. Then we'll fold it back down. I already cleaned this off with some more alcohol. We'll peel off the backing and we'll put one on both corners or one on each corner, just like that, and one in the middle. With everything installed, we'll just unfold it one more time, make sure everything's clicking into place still, and seals up when we close the tailgate.
