If you keep tools in your truck, leaving them loose in the bed exposes them to weather, theft, and whatever else you're hauling. This low-profile crossover box keeps them organized and protected behind the cab, with access from either side.
You've spent good money on your tools, so tossing them loose in your truck bed doesn't make much sense. It can be aggravating watching expensive tools get beat up just because they don't have a protected place to ride. They get knocked around while you drive, buried behind whatever else you're hauling, exposed to the weather, and left where anyone can walk off with them. This crossover box gives them an enclosed place behind the cab while leaving room underneath for tools or other cargo in the bed. The included J-hook hardware mounts the box without drilling into your truck.
Give either locking knob a quick bump with your hand and the latch releases, letting the gas struts take over and smoothly raise the lid to nearly 90°. With locking knobs on both ends, you can open the box from either side of the bed. Reinforced hinge points maintain alignment as the lid opens and closes, while full metal shields protect the struts from tools and equipment shifting inside the box. A full rubber weather seal surrounds the lid opening to help keep dust, dirt, and weather away from your gear.
A large open compartment gives you room for bigger gear, but small tools get buried when everything shares the same space. Westin includes a sliding tool tray, level holder, and tool caddies on both interior side walls, giving screwdrivers and other frequently used tools their own places without taking away the main compartment.
The box is formed from one-piece aluminum diamond tread, with additional aluminum reinforcement at stress points throughout the enclosure. And because a toolbox that lives in your truck bed is going to see its share of rain and moisture, the corrosion-resistant aluminum is made for life outdoors. A textured black powder coat covers the exterior.

Hi everyone, Steve here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at our Westin Brute 71-inch long low-profile crossover toolbox in a textured black finish. Folks, this has been constructed of a heavy duty, lightweight, one piece, extra thick aluminum with that diamond plate tread on it. It has additional thickness in places of that same aluminum that's gonna reinforce main points, i.e. the box lid, around the locking mechanism bar, around the gas struts, and along the edges as well. It also does feature, again, that low-profile design, so it's gonna be nice and clean looking in your pickup.
I do wanna start with some dimensions. Make sure it's gonna fit. 71 inches long overall across the front top. 20 inches deep from front to back. And 15 and a half inches deep from the top down into the bed of the truck.
Now that base dimension, that's the part that's gonna sit between your bed rails, 60 inches long, that same 20 inches deep, and 11 inches tall from right here down. Make sure it's gonna fit your truck and then as long as that'll fit, you should be good to go. Now the nice feature I like is you can simply push on that side button and open it up. And you can also lock it from that same push button. So that is one cool feature I like.
So if I have gloves on and whatnot, I can easily manipulate that to open it. And then also if I wanna lock it, I can lock it as well. So I found in the time before shooting it is if I lock the passenger side and I lock the driver's side, obviously you can't open any side. But if I unlock the driver's side and keep the passenger side locked, I can still open the toolbox from the side that's unlocked either way. So very nice feature there as well.
Lid features a weathered field, so that's gonna keep out dust, debris, dirt, those kind of things, and keep moisture out for the most part. And then coming from the top down, I do wanna showcase some features over here. So you have a yellow storage tray. And this can slide the full width of the toolbox. You can carefully take it out at an angle and take it out. You have two of these sidebar holders. These are actually bolted in place from the manufacturer, or riveted rather. And you can hold pliers in these slots. You can hold screwdrivers, and then you have this extra space up here, again, on both sides. And right here is one of those first areas I was talking about, that reinforcement around that gas strut, some of the other brands that are out there. I have an older toolbox and it doesn't have this, so I wish mine had that because sometimes getting it to open and close, I'm hitting things. Same thing up here, reinforcement around the locking points and over that bar that goes all the way, the full length side to side. And again, mine doesn't have that either and I wish it did because sometimes I get stuff that gets trapped in there. I try to unlock it, it won't actually turn all the way sometimes and I gotta fight it. So that's a real nice feature there as well. And then of course, I can fit a full size toolkit in here. Then across the back you have three of these brackets. That's for a level, so maybe you're a contractor, construction worker, plumber, whatnot. You can put up to a 48 inch long level inside of there and that's gonna keep that in place. Then you're gonna get two of these foam with adhesive backing on 'em, and that's gonna be for installation underneath that layover part there in this tray. You can take these aluminum sliders dividers out. So if you need to make a bigger pocket or something, you can simply remove those. And then of course you're gonna get this no drill hardware. These are easy installs because all you need is these J-hooks, one packet of two for each side. They give you two packets. Of course, all the bolts nuts and those kind of things that's needed as well for that install. And then again, closing it up is just easy. Again, folks, this is the textured black Westin Brute 71 inches long. If you want this in a polished aluminum, maybe you wanna shinier look, that item number sold separately is W28YH. That will wrap up our quick look together, folks. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
