Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's and passenger's sides. You will need to remove the plastic threshold cover, cargo trays, and side panel on the driver's side, and the environmental cover on the passenger's side. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector-TK42KR

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this T-One vehicle wiring harness with four-pole flat trailer connector. Now this harness is specifically designed to fit your 2018 to 2021 Hyundai Kona. And on custom fit parts such as this wiring harness, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Simply input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this harness will work for you, or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now this harness is going to give you a four-pole flat trailer connector at the back of your Kona to power your trailer signal lights.

This is compatible with five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters. And of course, those adapters are sold separately. As you can see here, included is this dust cap for the four-pole flap connector, which is tethered to the plug housing. So that's going to ensure that you don't misplace it and the dust cap is going to, of course, cover up those connection points when this plug is not being used. Now the black box on this harness is a ModuLite power module, and the ModuLite is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer.

It connects directly to your vehicle's battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system, reducing strain on your vehicle's wiring system. So this is not going to affect how the taillights on your vehicle operate. This harness is designed to connect quickly and easily. So what's nice about this is there's not gonna be any splicing wires, no alteration to your vehicle's wiring, which could lead to damage and possibly void warranties. This custom fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in the rear cargo of the driver's and passenger sides.

And you will need to remove the plastic threshold cover, the cargo trays and the side panel on the driver's side and the environmental cover on the passenger side. So these T-connectors are custom fitted for your Kona. They're gonna match up perfectly with the connection points on the vehicle and they're gonna snap and lock together for a tight, secure fit. Now once you have these connectors plugged in, you will need to make a good ground connection. And the ground wire is this white wire that has a ring terminal attached to it.

And it does come with a self-tapping screw. So you can get this grounded to a suitable location, such as your Kona's frame or crossmember. You just wanna make sure that the surface is clean and rust-free. Then you'll want to mount this ModuLite box to a safe, out-of-the-way location. You can do that with another mounting screw that you might have on hand, or use this included double-sided adhesive tape, or with one of the many cable ties that's included with this kit. Then you will need to run your hot lead from the ModuLite box to the battery on your vehicle, and that's this short black wire that's coming out of the ModuLite box. This short black wire is going to get connected to one end of this included bundle of black wire using one of the included butt connectors. And then the other end of this bundle is going to get routed to your vehicle's battery. And once you have this routed to your battery, you're going to take the fuse holder here and cut that yellow wire in half and connect one of the wires with the second butt connector to the routed end of the black bundle of wire here that you have here. And then you're going to take the other half of the fuse holder wire, the other wire that you snipped, and connect a terminal ring to it. That's gonna get connected to the positive post of your vehicle's battery. And then it does come with this 15-amp fuse that you'll insert into the holder. And then you'll just close the cap over that fuse and that's gonna keep the fuse safe and protected. Then you can secure any slack in your wiring with the many cable ties that's included with this kit. And once you have the installation complete, then the four-way flat connector is going to get stowed in your rear cargo area. Now the maximum amperage for the stop turn lights is five amps per circuit. And for the taillights, it's 7.5 amps per circuit. This is constructed of 16 gauge bonded wire. Instructions are included to walk you through that installation process. And it is also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the four-pole connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent electrical failures caused by corrosion and moisture. So if you're interested in picking some of that up as well, you can just take that item number that you see there on your screen, pop that into the search field of our website, that will take you to that grease and you can add that to your order. Well, that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
