Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM40165

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Hopkins Four-Way Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for your factory tow package. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2002 to 2004 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with the factory four-way tow package. Basically, this harness provides this four-way flat trailer connector for the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights.

It is designed for use with the factory tow package, and it is compatible with the five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters that we do sell separately. Now, this part does connect very quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires. Basically what you'll do is locate the factory tow package connection point that sit behind the rear bumper near the center of the vehicle, and then you'll plug in this key connector here that'll match the plug on your vehicle, and then you run the four-way end out towards the rear of the vehicle. Length on this core is about three feet.

They do use protective connection terminals or resist corrosion. Do you notice it does include this dust cover for the four-way So all you have to do is attach that to the four-way. And once you get it attached, you can actually leave it attached, and then when you're not plugged into your trailer, just put the cap on there to protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. Also comes with a couple cable ties, take up any slack in the wiring, and a package of terminal grease that you wanna put on all the electrical connections when you put this all together. But that should do it for review on this Hopkins Four-Way Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for the factory tow package.

  • Replacement Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2003 Ford F-350
I do have options for you but we do not carry OEM replacement parts. The correct harness for you would depend on what type of connector you have on the frame rail. If you have a square connector then you are going to want to use the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package part # HM40165 which is a direct plug and play option. In order to add a 7-way you are then going to want to use the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 which will give you both 4 and...

  • Adding 7-Way and 4-Way Connectors to a 2003 Ford F-250 with Factory Square Plug Behind Bumper
We do have a solution for you that plugs into the square plug on the rear of your 2006 Ford F-250 but it will require 2 piece to get you to a 7-Way and 4-Way combine connector. Start off by installing the Hopkins Connector # HM40165. This has a 4-Way connector and a loose blue wire as well as a loose red wire. The next step is to install the Hopkins Adapter # 37185 which has a 7-Way and a 4-Way connector. The 4-Way on the adapter will connect to the 4-Way on the 40165 and then you simply...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Light Functions After Trailer Connection Pulled Apart
It sounds like you have the factory wiring harness, but the # 118243 is not a fit for your vehicle. It is only a fit for 1999 to 2001 models. You would need either the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # HM40165 or Curt # C55265. If you test your factory wiring connection with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 prior to connecting a harness, you will be able to determine if the issue is the harness or prior to the harness. If you are only having connection issues on the trailer side,...
