When you hitch up or haul a heavy load, the last thing you want is a sagging rear end throwing off your balance. The Hellwig EZ-990 Helper Springs add up to 2,000 lbs of load-leveling capacity to your rear axle suspension. These custom helper springs sit above the factory leaf pack to keep your truck riding level and stable while towing or carrying lighter loads. By sharing the weight with your stock suspension, they help maintain proper ride height for predictable steering and braking.
Uneven roads, curves, and heavy cargo can make a vehicle sway or bounce more than it should. The EZ-990 springs flex with your factory leafs to smooth out motion and limit body roll. You can fine-tune the tension of each side using the included U-bolts—ideal for uneven loads where one side needs a bit more support than the other. That adjustability keeps things planted through turns and highway gusts without making the unloaded ride feel harsh.

You don’t need a lift or special tools to get better load support. The bolt-on design mounts above your factory leaf springs using step-style brackets that clear existing hardware, so there’s no complicated modification required. All mounting hardware comes in the box, and the straightforward layout means you can handle it with basic hand tools in your own driveway.
Once installed, these helper springs are ready for real work. The tough steel build and silver vein hammer tone powder coat finish resist corrosion and hold up through seasons of towing and hauling. By taking some strain off your factory suspension, tires, and brakes, they help extend component life while keeping your setup steady mile after mile.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a quick look at these Hellwig EZ-990 Helper Springs. Now, these helper springs are going to fit numerous different types of vehicles, so it is very important that you take advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Simply input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if these will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now, these custom helper springs have a low leveling capacity of 2,000 pounds.
They're gonna upgrade your factory leaf springs, installing above your vehicle's rear factory leaf springs, to help reduce sway and body roll while preventing sagging when towing or hauling loads. They're gonna extend the life of your factory suspension, tires, and brakes, and these springs are going to flex with your leaf springs to limit bouncing while giving you optimal stability. Now, these U-bolts that you see here, and I do kind of have it loosely put together as how it's gonna be installed, those U-bolts can be adjusted to suit different loads. The driver's and the passenger size can be adjusted independently for uneven loads if need be. These springs are made here in the USA of a durable steel construction.
It's gonna ensure a long-lasting performance. And they do feature a silver vein hammer tone powder coat finish that's gonna help resist rust and corrosion, so they're gonna hold up really well against the elements that they're gonna be exposed to. And again, this is gonna be a bolt-on installation above your vehicle's rear factory leaf springs. The step bracket style leaf avoids contact with factory hardware, and the mounting hardware is included. Now, you do wanna make sure that you don't install these on vehicles with composite or plastic leaf springs.
Because these are so robust, they could fracture those plastic or composite leaf springs, so, just wanted to make you aware of that. Again, the weight capacity is 2,000 pounds, but do be aware of the fact that these springs do not actually increase your vehicle's weight carrying capacity. So you wanna make sure that you're not exceeding your manufacturer's recommended weight limit. These do have a lifetime warranty from Hellwig, and if you do pick these up, we'd love to hear back from you regarding your experience with getting these installed and using them. You can share your experiences with us by dropping a comment or leaving a review on this product page, and if you happen to have any other questions, don't hesitate to reach out via phone, email, or chat.
We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, let's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
Ratings & Reviews
They were very easy to install and I like the added stiffness it gave to my suspension. I have yet to hook up to my camper but I am looking forward to it.
Worked Great! Exactly what our customer needed.
Some of the nuts were difficult to start onto the u-bolts, tried to strip the threads
This is exactly what we needed to finish our customer's job. This shipping was so quick. Thank you all so much!!
Parts ordered, shipping box was compromised, missing parts to do the install.
Now i need to fab a square u-bolt to use the product like i planed this weekend.
Completely helped the squating rear on 350xl transit box truck with dual rear wheels. Improved ride and handling when loaded. Rides smooth and looks like it is supposed to.
Ez-990 helper springs sagged with 800lb camper and bottomed while driving over speed bumps unless creeping. Unloaded there was noticeable tightness, almost binding feeling on bumps. I removed and checking options like airbags or Sumo.
Product seems good, instructions are terrible . Can't find a video with my product for install anywhere .
Great product. Quick shipping. Would buy here again.
Easy to install, very effective and didn’t have much effect on ride quality. Mine worked on the lowest setting with a 16’ camper.
These springs eliminated the rear sag from adding a shell, rubber bed mat, and a little gear.
Easy to install as well, but recomend having a 7/16X20 tap/die to clean threads on supplied u-bolts.
Easy to install. It should help stabilize the rear springs when I tow our boat.
Well they work great. I currently have 4 of second round of nuts that are supposed to be installed. Not catching. Which is frustrating cause I hand started all but can’t get 2 round of nuts on.
The product fit well and installed would have been a breeze if it wasn’t for the hardware. The u bolts are very poor quality with burrs and poorly tolerances threads. In addition only half the hardware was the correct size. One set of nuts was too big for the u bolts. The hardware was also low quality. In my opinion it should have all been grade 8 corrosion resistant hardware and it is much lower grade. I ended up having to buy all new hardware to be able to install at an additional cost. Now that it is installed the product works fantastic. Just be aware you may need to purchase extra hardware to get it installed.
Helper springs made my Ram 1500 Conversion Van have a more comfortable ride. The springs raised the profile of the back of the van by about 1-1/2", which is not noticeable and the van still looks good. My RV Travel trailer lowered the back half of the van by about 1", before I installed the helper springs. The helper springs should enhance the ride of the van.
It added lift to the truck and helps greatly when towing our 23 foot Travel Trailer.
U bolts are to long and would not allow the prop tightening.
Hellwig customer service advices to shim with washers.
Poor recommend repair.
The springs lifted my Tacoma with a cap about an inch higher. It would have been more helpful if the directions indicated that a C-Clamp would be useful to compress the spring ends to allow the u-bolts to be installed. The directions also indicated the long end of the spring should face forward. I measured the spring from the end to the hole and this was the same either way, so was confusing. I purchased longer axle u-bolts since the added thickness of this extra spring made the factory u-bolts too short IMO. I feel that should have been part of this kit. Lastly, the u-bolt on the driver's side did not need to be installed sideways per the instruction. It fit fine just as the other u-boults were installed. Maybe the instructions could be updated to be more accurate.
Easy install great fit. Readjusted for our new trailer in 10 minutes and working wonderfully.Leveled the truck and rides smooth..
I was a great addition to my RST 1500 Chevy and I transferred to my High Country 1500 Chevy and never missed a beat towing the travel trailer.
Easy to install, does not affect the ride much , worked great pulling my fish house to the lake. I showed my helper springs to one of my customers, gave him the part number for his truck and he ordered them from e-trailer today. Great product.
It worked perfectly for my needs. It helped my 2011 Silverado from sagging too much without raising the backend of the truck much (1/4 to 1/2) while empty. I can adjust this added spring to have less sag but then I raise the backend a little more. It's at a happy medium. It is easy to fine tune it if I want more or less spring support.
These work great. Very easy install. I have a bed slide and a camper top, and these brought the rear back up to the proper height.
Loaded my tacoma with a portaboat on the ladder rack and a few hundred pounds of camping gear. The sag was gone after installing these. The ride is a little bit stiffer when empty as to be expected but not bad even on washboard dirt roads. These can be fairly easily installed and removed if desired. Hardest part is jacking up the truck to sit on the frame
Way better than expected. Huge difference in the rear suspension. It’s almost like having a sway bar.
