Video Transcript for Flex-a-lite Flex-Wave Electric Fan Manufacturer Demo

Chris Duke: I'm Chris Duke, and I'm here today to talk about the new Flex-Wave Electric Engine-Cooling Fan from Flex-A-Lite. Now this isn't your traditional fan technology going on in here, nope. It's actually pretty cool what they've developed. Let me show you what I'm talking about. Like it says right on the product box, this fan gives you "up to 25% more airflow" than competing electric fans of the same size. How is this possible, though Check out these fan blades.

Have you ever seen anything like it They're half plain chips and half chips with ridges. This is by design for better aerodynamics, though. Their expert engineers developed a new patented fan blade design that moves more air without increasing the fans F draw, and it's slightly quieter than a traditional blade, too. Here's a closeup shot of the blade. The sine-wave shape of the blade improves airflow a few different ways.First, the leading edge resembles a serrated knife and, as such, cuts through the air quickly and starts channeling the air more efficiently over the blade, which produces more airflow while reducing energy losses.

To help reduce wind noise, the trailing edge of each blade has variations. Finally, the tip of each fan blade is shaped like a winglet, which helps keep air from moving off the end of the blade and also increases the amount of air that the fan moves. This is some really cool tech that I haven't seen anywhere else. There are currently five different models of the Flex-Wave available in 12, 14, and 16 inch diameters. They range in cfm from 1,325 to 3,000 with an amp draw ranging from 8 to 18 and a half amps.

Some are reversible, like the one I have with me right here, while the ultra thin LoBoy models are dedicated pushers or pullers. Flex-A-Lite is truly unique in the market with the Flex-Wave.They are the performance cooling leader, and they continue to lead by taking steps, like the engineering behind the Flex-Wave, looking at the blade design for more airflow. While everyone else has straight blades or S-blades and focuses on bigger or brush less motors, Flex-A-Lite is innovating with true blade design. How did they get there Well, they use CFD tools, allowing them to consider 100s of designs and 1,000s of variations. They also had inspiration from other industries, such as aerospace.

Today's vehicles make more power than ever, and there's less room under the hood. Flex-A-Lite's goal is to provide more air flow without increasing the overall size of the fan, which means you get better cooling in tight spaces. For more than 50 years, Flex-A-Lite has led the way with performance cooling products, and now the Flex-Wave gives you yet another way to cool your vehicle.

  • Can you Mount the Flex-a-Lite Flex-Wave Electric Fan and Keep your Clutch Fan
I spoke with Flex-a-Lite to check on this for you. The 16" Flex-Wave Electric Fan, part # FLX236, is a universal fit, so it will definitely work with your radiator by mounting to the core. To use this as a puller, you will need to mount it behind the radiator. As for keeping your clutch fan, Flex-a-Lite stated that you will need to measure your available space. There will need to be at least 1" between the clutch fan and this fan. Keep in mind that this fan is 3-3/4" deep, so make sure...

  • Can I Install the Flex-A-Lite Fan # FLX236 Right onto My Condenser?
I went ahead and reached out to my tech at Flex-a-lite, and he said that while they cannot confirm the use of the plastic push nuts from the # FLX236 on your condenser, you should be fine as long as you have enough room between the fins of the condenser. You may have to bend/adjust the fins to fit the nuts. You also need to make sure the fan is blowing inward toward the components and not blowing air out of the hood. As far as making sure you have enough room to mount the fan between...

  • Is There a Custom Installation Kit Available For the Flex-a-lite 16 Flex-Wave Electric Fan
There is not a vehicle specific installation kit available for the Flex-a-lite Flex-Wave Electric Fan # FLX236 but it does install by mounting directly to your radiator core using nylon bolts and push nuts. The 16" Flex-Wave LoBoy Auxiliary Electric Fan # FLX238 is also a universal fan that installs directly onto the radiator, but it's slightly thinner and provides more air flow at 3,000 CFM, so if you don't need the reversible feature, this is the one I recommend for your 2005 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0 L V6 engine.
