The voltmeter worked only for a short time. The digital display started running random numbers continually. I threw it away

It sounds like a case of a loose wire. I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have offered that they can send out a replacement if you would like?

This is really something I never thought I needed. Till I got one. Not only for the RV but also at home. Voltage fluctuates way more than you think. If you see it dropping it's time to turn off items that aren't necessary till the power recovers during RV parks heavy use. Save your expensive equipment from damage.
