Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone standard crossbar pads. The foam padding wraps around your roof rack crossbars and protects boards and boats from damage. These pads provide a simple way to carry surf boards, stand up paddle boards, and other gear on the roof of your vehicle. The padding inside the material is made with a high grade EVA foam core and the material around the actual foam is a water resistant nylon sleeve. Now these are designed to fit round, square, and factory oval crossbars. It's a tool free installation.
You undo this strap right here. The pads open up, see that slit right there You fit it around your crossbar, secure it with the Velcro closure and then you have the shock cords on the ends. That also help at better security. These are going to measure 30 inches long by about 4 inches wide and both pads are included with this part number. I received the pads in good condition. Delivery was a day earlier than promised. The pads were easy to install. I removed the knotted end elastics and clip to get them around the crossbars and re-knotted. Overall, very easy and am looking forward to using them. I am not a surfer or SUP person and will use the pads to put my ladders on. Previously, had a split pool noodle on crossbars with cable ties but that was not cool looking. These are black and much better. Feel the outer material will provide UV protection for padding
Bought these to replace my Yakima 20” round bar pads. The padding in the Malone pad is not as dense (inferior padding) as the Yakima pad, so I installed the Yakima padding in the fabric sleeve of the Malone pad to make it work. Sleeves aren’t as robust as the Yakima sleeves, but hard to find anything that last these days.
We used this to cover the worn cushion on our kayak rack. Works great and is removable so that we can take it in from the winter weather!
I’ve used them a lot for my kayak and they work pretty well. Unfortunately they were not made for oval Honda factory crossbars, so sometimes they flip upside down while I’m sliding the kayak on and the padded side ends up on the underside of the crossbar. If Malone had a design that fit the wide oval bars, they would be perfect!
I received the cross bar supports and am pleased with my purchase. Although I'm sure they will make the surfboard rental company happy, my primary reason for purchasing was to protect the crossbars on my new SUV. I use the crossbars on past vehicles for loading anything too large to fit inside (lumber, party tents, etc.) and found the crossbars got really scratched up and look bad, and were also quite slippery and allowed what ever it was to shift on turns. These pads should prevent that, oh and will protect what ever I'm carrying from damage from the bars as well. Would have given them 5 starts but have not had them long enough to test fully and understand how they will hold up to sun and rain.
