Recently, the head for my 5th wheel hitch was stolen out of our garage; for a Demco Autoslide. We were due to go camping the following week and I was frantic to find the part and get it in time. When I typed in the part number, etrailer popped up with exactly what I needed. Five days later I had the head and we were able to go on our planned vacation. Thank you etrailer!

I am really a fan of Demco product. I installed a Demco Hijacker Autoslide 18k on My HD 2500 Crew Cab Silverado 2017 standard box. I made a transfert of my Autoslide to my new GMC HD 2020 Duramax and I am really happy again. I bought a new replacement Head because the head of my original autoslide 2016 the adjustments of the captures plates were poorly designed and caused the pin box to move between capture paltes. I am happy with the replacement head.

by:

WOW! The order arrived from halfway across the country in just three days (four days earlier than predicted) and fit perfectly. Easy installation with just one key pin.
Thank you so much Mariah for your knowledge of your products, patience and persistence in finding the correct part for the job. The replacement part is a new design (and manufacturer) that is actually a superior, more secure product (fifth wheel hitch head). And it was a free shipping day (not a trivial thing for a 65 pound part) and reasonable prices to boot. Thank you!

  • Weights and Measures of Demco HiJakcer 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 Short Bed
For Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Underbed - 18,000 lbs Item # DM8550022 the head by itself, which is # DM6081, weighs approximately 65 pounds. The base the head sits on by itself weighs approximately 178 pounds. And the side plates weigh about 40 pounds. They combine for a total weight of approximately 285 pounds. The base is 35 inches long by 33 inches wide overall. According to our contacts at Demco the pin box should NOT make contact with...

  • Parts Needed To Use Old Demco Autoslide On New 2025 Chevy Silverado 2500 Crew Cab 6.5' Bed
Hello Robert, thanks for reaching out. We should have a solution for you, but the part number # DM6081 is the Demco Autoslide head unit, so this does not tell me exactly what hitch you have. Basically I will just need to know if your hitch attached to a factory puck system or to industry standard 5th wheel rails. If your new Silverado has the factory puck system, you would just need to replace the side plates on your hitch. For that use part # DM49GV. These will allow your Autoslide hitch...

  • Troubleshooting Demco Hijacker Jarring and Chucking at Start and Stop
I reached out to my contact at Demco and he said that depending on the year, there was a gear adjustment bolt on the cab side of the base of the older Hijacker models. He also said some of the slide bar heads had an adjustment bolt there as well for a better king pin/pin box connection. These adjustments should clean up the slop that you are experiencing. If you have your owners manual it will walk you through those adjustments. If you don't have the manual, let me know your model number...

  • Troubleshooting Chucking From An XLR Nitro 321 With An Air Ride Pin Box And Demco Autoslide Hitch
Since you already have an air ride pin box the next step would be to look at your hitch. Based on the picture you provided the jaws look like they need to be replaced. Even though the king pin might be held by the hitch jaws so it's in no danger of popping out there could be enough play to allow the king pin to rattle which is transferring into the chucking you're feeling. You'll be able to replace the head assembly of your hitch with the Replacement Head for Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th...

  • Why Did Demco Autoslide 5TH Wheel Hitch Move Back When Connected To Lippert Rhino Pin Box?
I do see your Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550035 is missing the Capture Plate # DM14743-95 and other components on the Head # DM6081. And as you have a Rhino pin box you need the Locking Plate # DM76FR as well to prevent the Demco from turning unless the trailer is turning. Since you don't have either of the parts on the head this is why your hitch slid back the way it did.

  • Weight of Components in Demco Hijacker 13K Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch
The head( # DM6081) of the 13K Demco Hijacker Autoslide weighs 65lbs, the base weighs 210lbs, and the above the bed brackets( # DM6003) 30lbs while the puck mounting under bed brackets( # DM6004) weigh 42lbs totaling to 305-317lbs. This will add weight to your truck, but it's minor compared to the weight the hitch is capable of towing. The # DM6141 is just the head and base while the # DM8550040 is the system with above the bed rail brackets and the # DM8550041 is the unit with the puck...

  • Too Much Slop When Starting and Stopping with Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
In regards to a Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch like part # DM8550034, there are not adjustments for the locking jaw mechanism. If there is too much slop inside the jaws with the kingpin they are either too far worn or damaged and need replaced. This would require a new head assembly, the Replacement Head for Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # DM6081. That said, the slop you are feeling may be attributed to the base and in which case there is an adjustment for this...

  • Demco 5th Wheel Autoslide Hitch 8550023 Pin Dimensions
If the pins you are asking about in the Replacement Head for Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # DM6081 are 1 inch diameter and 9.38 inches long. I reached out to my tech contact at Demco to ensure you had the correct dimensions.
