Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the BioLite Charge 40 PD Portable Charger

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this BioLite Charge 40 PD Portable Charger. This portable charger is going to give you enough power to charge most smartphones, cameras, and tablets multiple times. This has a capacity of 10,000 milliamp hour, and this is going to give you the ability to charge most smartphones about two and a half times before this needs to be charged up again, and it could charge a tablet about one time. And then if you have something like BioLite headlamps, it can charge those headlamps up to eight times, again, before this needs to be charged back up.

I wanna take a look at the ports here that this offers. So this is gonna give you quite a bit of flexibility. First you have this USB-C port. This is both an input and an output port, so you're gonna use this port to charge up this charger, and then you can also use that USB-C port to charge your USB-C devices. And then you also get two USB-A ports to charge your devices that can use USB-A ports, so, again, quite a bit of flexibility.

To charge this up fully is gonna take about two and a half hours by that USB-C port, and it does include this cable. And so what I'm going to do is I'm going to plug the USB-A end of this cable into this battery. And then I personally have an iPhone 15 Pro. It's got a USB-C connector. And so I'm going to plug in the USB-C end of this to the bottom of my phone here, and take a look at the screen.

As you can see, it's starting to charge, and so as soon as I plug this in, it's charging up my phone. And if I had a USB-C cable, I could just plug USB-C to USB-C, but it's going to work with this included cable, USB-A to USB-C. So this is going to be very convenient to use. And if you notice, the size of the battery itself is right about the same size as my phone, so this is going to be very pocketable, as you can see there on your screen. Gives you an idea of what this is going to look like when you slide it into your front pocket.

So this is going to be very portable to use. While we're speaking of size, let me just put a ruler to it. Looking at the overall height, we're pretty close to six inches tall. And then looking at the width, we're slightly over three inches wide. And then the thickness, about half an inch thick. And this has a texture to it, so not only is that textured coating going to be scratch-resistant, but it's not going to easily slide around. If I put my phone without a case on a smoother surface at an angle, that's gonna begin to slide. This is not going to do that, and plus it's not going to be sliding around in your pocket either. So it's a really nice textured feel that's going to give it a little bit of grip and quite a bit of protection as well. This weighs about half a pound or so, so very lightweight. Again, comes with this cable, and it also comes with a little instruction sheet there just to make sure that you're using it appropriately. I think I failed to indicate that we do have an LED indicator here that's gonna let you know the status of the battery when you hit that button. But again, all you have to do is plug in your device, and that battery is going to automatically start charging your device. So very, very handy, and you're gonna get quite a bit of capability out of it, quite a few charges out of it as well. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

For longer adventures or gear-heavy trips, the Charge 80 is the powerhouse of the bunch. It gave me around four to five phone charges, and I love knowing I could even top off a laptop or tablet if needed. It’s bigger than the other two, but not by much — more like a phone with a thick case — and still slim enough to slide into my gear bag. I paired it with my BioLite solar panel and let the sun handle recharging while I moved around camp. The LED battery indicator came in handy too — easy to check at a glance.

If you don’t need quite that much capacity, the Charge 40 is a great mid-size option that gives you two full charges. And if you’re really just looking to keep your phone alive for a bit longer during a hike or short trip, the Charge 20 is the lightest and smallest. All three chargers have the same port setup and durable finish, so it’s really about how much power you want to carry. I love that BioLite gives us options — pick your size and go!

If you're looking for something ultra-portable, the Charge 20 is my go-to for quick day trips or minimalist setups. It’s about the size of my wallet seriously, I held them side by side and slim enough to slide into any pocket or pouch. It gave me a little over one full phone charge, which was just right when I wanted a lightweight backup for an afternoon hike or climbing session. You still get the full-size features like two USB-A ports, a USB-C input/output, and the same grippy, scratch-resistant surface as the larger models.

Now, if you’re planning to charge more than just your phone or want something with more staying power, take a look at the Charge 40 or Charge 80. The 40 is about the size of your phone and gives you two full charges, while the 80 can power your phone four to five times or even handle a laptop. I love that all three share the same simple port layout just pick the one that fits your adventure best!

The Charge 40 hits that just-right middle ground. It’s close to the size of my phone and light enough to stash in a backpack or even a jacket pocket. I used it to charge my phone twice, and it still had juice left over for a headlamp. The scratch-resistant finish and rounded edges made it super easy to handle — even with gloves on — and the USB-C charging made it quick to top off. This is my pick when I want more than a single charge but don’t need the full weight of the biggest battery.

If you just need a compact backup, the Charge 20 is smaller and still gets the job done for about one charge. But if you're going off-grid for a longer trip, definitely consider the Charge 80 — it has double the capacity and is perfect if you also need to keep a tablet or BioLite light charged. I’ve used all three and love how interchangeable the cables and ports are across the line.
