Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this Curt Secure Latch Pintle Hook. Now this is just the pintle hook attachment. It's the bolt-on pintle hook. You're gonna have to pair this up with their pintle platform. Now it's gonna be the piece that actually slides into your two and a half inch receiver tube and allows you to bolt this on.
But if you're looking for an adjustable system, this bolt-on piece is the one for you. Let's check it out. Now, if you don't want to get a two piece system and buy these separately, you don't have to. Curt does make a version of the secure latch that's all one piece, but it's gonna be a fixed height. So if you need that adjustment to be able to drop this down a little bit lower to maybe be level with your truck and trailer combination, then you'll have to go with the two piece system here, because that's the one that offers height adjustment.
And the other nice thing about the two piece system is, let's say you're pretty rough with your equipment and when you're hooking up to trailers and towing frequently, this is the piece that's gonna get beat up. So if that becomes so beat up to the point where you want to just replace it and get a new one, you don't have to replace the whole thing. You can replace just this piece here. So it's worth considering if you use your equipment a lot and you're towing frequently, and you need to just be able to swap some parts out if need be. Now the pintle hook itself can support 30,000 pounds of gross trailer weight rating.
That's how much weight it can pull, and a maximum tongue weight of 6,000 pounds, the maximum downward pressure on the end here. Now, it's important to note that when paired with the platform that we're using today, it's got a lower weight capacity on the platform. So just make sure you go and you look at your components and go by the lowest rated in the whole system, whether that be the hook, the platform, the hitch, or the vehicle. So the way the secure latch works is pretty simple. Right now, the pin and retaining clip are in, which means that this lock right here is stuck in place.
You would take this pin and retaining clip out whenever you're ready to hook up to your trailer, back up to it, it would hit this stopper, and lower your trailer down. That lunette ring will lower down over this piece right here and just kind of slide out of the way and gravity will make sure it latches back in so that that lunette ring can't pop back out, at which point we just repin it and we're ready to tow. One other nice thing this includes is these hooks here. Now your safety chain loops are on your hitch. You're gonna hook your safety chain to there. But let's say you've got a lot of excess chain that's gonna be dangling down low and potentially dragging on the ground. Well, this hook can hold that excess and just keep it off the ground, helping your safety chains last a little bit longer. Now, the way Curt handles height adjustment with the secure latch is a little different than most adjustable ball mounts or pintle hooks. The way they have it is four nuts and bolts in each corner that are included with the actual mounting platform here. But it's all along this channel, so they'll slide up and down once that hardware is loose, and you'll have to tighten it down wherever fits best with your truck and trailer combination. Now, this can be a good thing in the sense that you can adjust this to whatever height you need. You're not set to any fixed intervals, and it can be at any fraction of an inch. But the thing I don't love about this is that it one, requires a tool, which if you have to loosen it up and then retighten, it means you also need to retorque it if you're trying to be safe. And there's also just that thought in the back of my head that once this has the weight of my trailer on it, what's stopping this from just skipping down a little bit when I hit a big bump in the road I don't personally love it. I'd be willing to make the sacrifice of adjustability in order to have just simpler pin adjustment and have them in set holes where it's not gonna move out of that hole unless something breaks. And in that case, I've got a whole nother problem, but I'm not as worried about it then. I don't think anyone's gonna shift around because it's all set. So there's some trade offs you're gonna make there, but that's how the adjustment here works. And I think more than likely, you're gonna just pick a height and keep it there. If you just have one lunette ring trailer, then I think this is gonna be a pretty solid option to find the right height for you and then always be ready to tow with that pintle hook. Thanks for watching.

SecureLatch auto-locking pintle hook secures your lunette ring without you having to latch the coupler manually. Cupped hook allows for a quiet, smooth ride. Mounting plate sold separately.Great pintle. Love the self latching me chanism.
Total waste of money. Bad design. It looks like the pintle hook could pop out on a bump. I’m no dummy and have been using pintles for over 40 years. My advice go with a conventional full over the top latch. Also I did not use this until after the return period ended so of course etrailer said too bad your stuck with it. So I ended up throwing it in the scrap pile.
I don't feel like this is a secure latching system. when I installed it I felt like the weight of the load could cause this latching mechanism to fail. I have no proof of this and I have not used these pineal hooks prior. I ended up getting one that completely closes around the lunette ring.
Great product
I can’t wait to see how this product will help me save time in the future.
