Features to know about

Get Perfect Load Balance Every Time: Built-In Tongue Weight Scale and App Guidance

Balancing your trailer’s load can make the difference between a smooth drive and a white-knuckle trip. The Weigh Safe True Tow hitch takes the guesswork out with a built-in tongue weight scale and the True Tow app. Just hook up your trailer, check the scale to see if your tongue weight lands in the 10–15% sweet spot of your gross towing weight, then use the app to determine the ideal distributed tongue weight. Adjust the lead screw until the scale shows that number and you’re perfectly dialed in for even, stable towing.

Stay Steady Through Wind and Traffic: Integrated Weight Distribution with Sway Control

Passing semis or strong crosswinds can push your trailer around if your hitch isn’t keeping things in line. The True Tow’s built-in tension and friction points actively correct sway as you drive, keeping your trailer tracking straight behind you. Its trunnion bar setup distributes tongue weight across the axles to reduce bounce and improve steering control. The result is a calm, predictable ride even in tough highway conditions.

Hook Up and Go Without the Hassle: Straightforward Setup and Backing Capability

Standard weight distribution systems can be finicky and often need to be disconnected before you back up. True Tow’s simple setup process and backing capability make things easier from start to finish. Once you’ve set your distributed tongue weight, you can reverse or maneuver into tight spots without disconnecting the system. That’s one less thing to worry about when parking or navigating campgrounds.

Built Strong for Heavy Loads: 18,500 lbs GTW and 1,850 lbs Tongue Weight Capacity

Whether you’re towing a heavy camper or equipment trailer, this hitch is built to handle it. The high-strength steel construction is rated for up to 18,500 lbs gross towing weight and 1,850 lbs tongue weight. It includes a 2-5/16" stainless steel hitch ball that resists corrosion and stays smooth through years of use. The included hitch lock secures your setup, and every component is V5 and J684 certified for safety.

Fine-Tune Your Setup for Any Trailer Height: 10" Drop and 11" Rise Adjustability

Different trailer heights call for precise adjustment, and the True Tow delivers with a 10" maximum drop, 11" maximum rise, and 1-1/4" incremental height adjustment. The sway control brackets mount 27"–32" back from the coupler and fit trailer frames up to 6" tall (or 8" using WS89RR, sold separately). This flexibility ensures a level, balanced connection no matter the trailer you’re towing.

Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe Weight Distribution Hitch - WD With Sway Control - WS77RR

Hello, neighbors and friends. Steven here with etrailer.com. Thanks for joining me while we take a look at our Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch. It's got a 2 1/2-inch shank on it with a 10-inch drop or 11-inch rise, and it's rated at 18,500 pounds maximum gross towing. So folks, with weight distribution, you're gonna get a smooth, even, and safe ride while you're towing. And this kit in particular with the scale by Weigh Safe makes balancing your load super easy.

You don't have to worry about poor handling. It's gonna correct sway when you're passing semis or when they pass you, harsh cross winds, those kind of things with its built-in tension and the friction points at the bars. Now, you're gonna be able to check the built-in scale to gauge your trailer's tongue weight. Now, if it's outside of that sweet spot, which should be 10 to 15% of your gross towing weight, you just simply adjust your load, and then you can also use the downloadable app. There are instructions and a QR code here on the product itself, as well as on their website and in their instruction manual that's included.

Now, your input, your set up weight and measurements in that app, and you're gonna give the distributed weight aim that you want to aim for. Now, what you'll do is you'll adjust this screw here with the included lift tool. It has a wrench end on it. And all you simply do, we'll move this in or out or up or down, whichever you wanna word it. And that's gonna adjust the pitch of the head and that's gonna give you the pitch you need.

And too, that scale, gives you the correct weight. So it's gonna give you peace of mind for your journey. You're also going to get an included hitch lock. It's got a rubber cover on it for keeping out debris and dirt and everything. You get a pair of keys.

They are a tubular style key, so they're round. Much more harder to pick than your regular flat keys that are out there. Now, this whole thing is made of a high-strength steel. It can support those heavy loads. And the ball is a stainless steel hitch ball, a 2 5/16 inch to be exact, and that's gonna make it rustproof and also built to last. You don't have to worry about corrosion, any of that. Now this whole system is V5 and J684 certified for your safety. Now, like I said, the max towing weight is 18,500 pounds for this particular unit. You get everything you see here. You got spring bars, you've got brackets, you've got the L-pins to hold the spring bars in place. And once again, you've got the lift tool. So I don't know if you've ever used these before, but if you haven't, we've got lots of information on our website here at etrailer.com that explains how to set 'em up, those kind of things. With this particular unit, you have a sway control bracket positioning. You need to have between 27 and 32 inches from the center of your coupler. So right here on top of the ball, down the side of your frame at that angle following that frame, you need to be between 27 and 32 inches. That's what this is designed for. Now, let's say you get that measurement on your particular setup, you have something in the way, you may potentially have to move a bracket or something like that a couple inches. But again, check the owner's manual as far as that goes. Now, the maximum trailer height that this is rated for is gonna be six inches tall. Now, that being said, if you need an additional height here, we do offer up to eight inch ones. Those are sold separately. And again, this whole system here has a max drop of 10 inches, or you can flip it over and you'll get a max rise of 11 inches. The spacing between the holes for the head unit here are 1 1/4 inches on center, and the pinhole diameter is 5/8 of an inch on the hitch pin. So folks, again, a lot of information here. This again is the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution for a 2 1/2-inch shank with a 10-inch drop or 11-inch rise rated at 18,500 pounds. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching. And as always, stay safe while you're towing, please.

Kayleigh is a Rockstar!! Took care of me on short notice and followed up promptly!!

by:

Excellent Quality! Box arrived in perfect condition (thanks, UPS!). The inside packaging was very neat and was in perfect condition. Great instructions, great App. Seems like an excellent product so far. I haven't made a two with it yet, but will update soon after. I'm anticipating greatness!

by:

Pretty easy setup, app is a little complicated but good. Was a big improvement from my last hitch

by:

Towing a 2025 Alliance 252RL (30') with a 2025 Silverado 1500 3.0 Duramax. With about 850 lbs on tongue and current measurements entered into the app, we run about 2100 lbs on the weigh safe hitch with the bars attached. The trailer towes perfect! Absolutely zero sway and very little bobbing cruising at 65 mph for 2 hours. I will test at slightly higher speeds another time. Proper setup per weigh safe instructions is a must! I had a dealer install it and they did not follow the instructions. I had to keep my speed below 60 and it still didn't feel great. After installing it per the instructions, it exceeded my expectations.

by:

The hitch is perfectly fine. The box was destroyed.

by:

Built like a tank, much better than my other hitch, it was used hitch that came with the camper that was welded together for their truck. I'm sure this one will do fine and had great reviews from wandering weekends on YouTube.

by:

The hitch is perfect for our camper. Installation was a breeze. I highly recommend weigh safe.
Customer service was amazing!!

by:

It pulls my RV better than any other weight distribution hitch I’ve owned.

by:

Rate based on early thoughts. Extremely well built with high, smooth tolerances. Instructions are well written. Haven't towed yet. Will next weekend.

by:

The hitch is amazing. It’s like there’s nothing behind the truck except for the weight. Shipping was incredibly fast and arrived as if directly off the shelf. Etrailer is truly exceptional in customer service and Joanne K was exceptional. Thank you!

by:

It makes pulling out Brinkley Z Air 315 (38Ft+) so much easier! I really like that backing up causes zero issues. Once I learned how to use the trailer tongue jack to relieve pressure during connecting, it made it so much easier.

by:

App and set up guide were easy to follow. Got everything tuned in and ready to tow. Solid construction.

by:

I’ve now used three different weight distribution hitches. While initial setup is a little bit more complex than the two I used previously, I was able to “dial it in” with the right settings the first time around versus trial and error. Once installed I towed an overloaded 16,000 pound trailer over 2,300 miles without any issues.

by:

16 F250 towing 24' encl trailer. So far 1500 miles towing has been great. Nearly zero porpoising or sway. Set up seemed difficult from the videos and instructions but was actually a breeze. Was very quick and easy. W the f250 4x4 you probably only need 4" drop as the 6" is pretty low. Although my TT has a ton of clearance so you may need the rise w those as the 250 hitch only sits at 19" i also have a curt trutrack 4p which is very heavy to place on the receiver. The WS feels way lighter but maybe it's just the way its balanced. Also like that you can make adjustments easier w the WS vs the curt. The min torque on the WS is 150ft lb which everyone has a trq wrench for that, do yourself a favor and put more torque as it'll need it. Nothing w WS its just what happens w movement.

Towed a 2026 Jayco trailer 7300gvw with a 2026 Chvy Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3. Estimated my combined weight truck +trailer and loads at 13500, TW was 850, followed instructions, installed hitch and used app. Set distributed TW to 2250 per the app. Towed 800 miles from NC to NY, on I81, no sway, proposing or other issues. Hitch is outstanding.

by:

Manufacturer needs to either ship in 2 boxes or redesign/increase cardboard thickness. When I received the 1 box (UPS), it was almost split in half and full of packing tape to hold box together. I was missing the lifting bar and spring arms. Those 2 items weighed 54 lb themselves. etrailer was very responsive in getting me the replacement items from manufacturer since I was picking up a new trailer in a week. Website wouldn't allow me to upload pictures.

by:

The instructions described the setup well. I can open my tailgate with this hitch!!! AWESOME!!!!! It's good to have peace of mind regarding whether the hitch is adequate for the tongue weight. I was surprised to see that I was 100lbs over what the rated tongue is listed as. My last hitch was inadequate...this one is perfect. Haven't towed with it yet, but I feel quite confident that it will safely handle the load.

by:

This is my second WD hitch experience. Ease of setup and installation is better especially with the head unit. Not having to deal with spacers and washers makes this much easier. Bar installation, loading and unloading tension was a lot easier and didn't require the effort of last hitch. Adjusting for front wheelwell difference is a breeze making overall ride handling and ride quality super simple. This WD hitch is a definite "recommend". I'm long time etrailer.com customer and found this shipping experience to be even faster than transactions in the past. Way to go etrailer.com!

by:

I just received the Weigh Safe Heavyweight distribution hitch. The one quite heavy as can be imagined package arrived in perfect condition. After unboxing the hitch, I’m impressed with the quality and workmanship. I can not report on the performance at this time, however the installation manual and user guide is quite clear to understand and follow. Also etrailer customer service is fantastic and I recommend purchasing anything through them as I’m a repeat customer.

by:

Installed according to printed instructions and videos. Downloaded app and this thing will not keep my trailer from swaying. I was so hopeful but now regret I spent $1070 on this hitch and I can’t keep my trailer between the lines when there is any wind.  I have only used the hitch once and now going to have to buy a different hitch.

by:

Setup was quick and easy, VERY well built system. The washers they sent were not the proper grade so they split but etrailer QUICKLY replaced them as well as the brackets that were scratched while torquing. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I have a 2022 ram 2500 Cummins on 38s with a Carli 3.5 pintop soft suspension setup with king shocks and what a difference towing. I would say this system corrected 55% of my squat issue. Granted, the system is not designed to help with squat however it did! I did tow with the system and noticed a night and day difference in trailer performance. Shipping was fantastic and the box came intact and very well put together. I received my packaged the next day with free shipping. When I called to place the order, Tiffany was kind and polite and was VERY knowledgable on products. Thank you again!

by:

This is the best weight distribution hitch. The instructions are very detailed plus the downloadable app makes it easy to dial in the proper weight distribution across the trailer and truck. After installing mine, both the camper and tow vehicle were perfectly level. The installation is a very doable DIY project.

by:

The hardware and design look great. The issue is that it is dependent on a companion app. The app the manual says to download is incompatible with the current Android OS. The other available Weigh Safe app, won't take/use the "optional" weight distribution load ratings so that according to the app my F-150 with max tow package rated for 12000 lbs with 1220lb tongue wt rating when using a WDH. Weigh Safe customer support puts you on hold for 10 minutes and then punts you to voice mail. Hence the single star.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System w/a 2-1/2" Shank for a 17,500 lbs Trailer
Hey Arnaud, thanks for the information! The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS49MR would be a great option for a 17,500 lbs trailer. It will work with tongue weights up to 1,850 lbs but it's not going to be overrated for your trailer's lower tongue weight. The built in scale will also allow you to adjust how you load your trailer and account for the weight of anything in your F-250's bed. The Weigh Safe item # WS49MR has built in sway control that will keep your trailer...
