Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this CURT hitch cap sensor. This is going to install on a two and a half inch by two and a half inch trailer hitch receiver on your 2019 newer and GMC Sierra or 2021 and newer Chevrolet Silverado truck. This is going to work in sync with your truck's electronics. The sensor will prevent the inner tailgate of your GMC MultiPro tailgate or the Chevy Multi-Flex tailgate from folding down when there's a ball mount or other accessory in your hitch. So that's gonna help prevent your tailgate from being potentially damaged by making contact with your hitch mounted accessory.
This is a very quick and easy installation. You're not gonna need to cut or splice into your vehicle's wiring. The sensor cap is going to clamp around your receiver tube with the included hardware. Very simple to get that put on in place. And then our wiring harness here is gonna plug in between the taillight wiring harness and the internal tailgate locking mechanism.
So again, won't have to be splicing into any wires. Very simple plug and play kinda set up there. It does have a sleek, durable design, so you can leave it installed. It's not gonna obstruct your trailer hitch or towing accessories, and it is well suited for all working conditions. It does have a plastic construction with a black finish and it is IP67 rated for water submersion and dust protection.
Again, it is gonna be a very simple installation, but they do include instructions just to make sure that you know exactly what you're doing, make sure that everything's installed properly. So if you are needing to have some extra help, make sure that your MultiPro tailgate or Multi-Flex tailgate aren't gonna make contact if you happen to forget that you've got your hitch ball installed, then this is gonna be a great way to go. I love this product. It has been working great for the last two years. My only regrets is there are no replacement parts if needed.
The video I watched prior to purchasing this product was not accurate since Chevy updated their wiring. The directions from Curt needed some clarification. I called etrailer and was referred to Curt manufacturing. Their representative was current and knowledgable. The product is now installed and appears to work perfectly.
