Even a tilting bike rack can leave your bikes blocking your hatch. This hitch extender swings your entire bike rack or cargo carrier to the passenger side, giving you room to open the back and grab what you need without unloading your bikes or gear.
Even when your bike rack tilts away from your vehicle, your bikes may still block your hatch from opening all the way. The Pivot XD swings your whole bike rack toward the passenger side with your bikes still mounted, giving you room to load a cooler or reach your gear in the back. It works with compatible hitch-mounted cargo carriers, too. Release the latch, remove the safety pin, swing the arm to 90° or 120°, and secure it with the pin. Check clearance around your rear doors and bike rack, since your hatch may not open fully with every setup.
The Pivot XD works with many 2" platform bike racks, approved vertical hanging racks, and hitch-mounted cargo carriers. For compatible non-Kuat platform racks and cargo carriers, the limit is 350 lbs when your rack or carrier measures up to 28" from its hitch-pin hole to its farthest point. If it measures over 28" and up to 40", the limit drops to 250 lbs. The farther your rack or carrier extends from your hitch, the more leverage it puts on the connection. Both limits include the weight of your rack or carrier and your bikes or cargo on it.
This hitch extender swings your bike rack or cargo carrier toward the shoulder when you're parked on the right side of the road, rather than toward passing traffic. At a trailhead or campsite, you have two opening positions to work with depending on the space beside your vehicle. Check the clearance around your tailgate, rear doors, and spare tire before opening the arm all the way.
Play between a hitch adapter and your receiver leads to rattling and clunking over bumps. The FlatLock cam tightens the Pivot XD inside your 2" receiver to reduce that movement when you drive. The included locking hitch pin helps secure the adapter to your hitch.
Add the Kuat Accessory Hoop with MOLLE panel (KU77KR - sold separately) to mount tools and recovery gear outside your vehicle instead of packing them into your cargo area. The hoop also accepts a 150-mm spare tire adapter (KU97KR - sold separately), 200-mm spare tire adapter (KU47KR - sold separately), or 250-mm spare tire adapter (KU67KR - sold separately). Choose the adapter depth based on your wheel's backspacing and the clearance you need. You can carry gear on the MOLLE panel and a spare tire at the same time. The panel holds up to 50 lbs of gear, and the spare tire adapter supports up to 100 lbs. Both loads count toward the Pivot XD's total capacity.
