Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at etrailer.com.Today we're taking a look at a two and five sixteenth inch gooseneck coupler. Now this is going to be a perfect solution for attaching your gooseneck trailer to the back of your truck. It also includes the outer tube here so, if you're rebuilding a trailer that maybe had some damage to the front or, just building an new trailer, you're going to have that as well. So, you can not only have the coupler that you're looking for but, also that outer tube. They come in a raw finish so, raw steel. When you get it you will want to have it sandblasted and painted to match whatever your application's going to be.Now I think this coupler is really going to shine with people that don't use them very often. Maybe you're using it on a farm moving hay from one side to the other or, maybe you've got a tractor you just need to move short distances, if it we're me, I would definitely choose something different if I hauled a gooseneck all the time. If I was hauling livestock, horses or, maybe I had living quarters in my gooseneck trailer, I'd want something cushioned to smooth that ride out and get rid of a lot of that chucking and bouncing that we're kind of used to.Maybe the GEN-Y or, the Convert-A-Ball cushion goose mount. Now, as far as how the coupler works, we've got a large release handle here. Basically we need to pull up on that all the way, we can slide that plate forward, that's going to allow our ball to slide up and in.
Once we've got that down onto the ball, push that back, that spring loaded pin's automatically going to engage the whole, keep everything from moving around. Now, this feels really nice and sturdy but, most goosenecks do. The quality of the finish on it, I really like. The welds look clean and, there's not as much slag as what we see off some of the other ones. So, all-in-all I think you're going to be happy with it.This is just the standard kind of sliding plate mechanism here. It's very common on your standard or, more basic goosenecks.
There's a little bit of a bevel here. It's going to help us to get onto the ball when we're not exactly dead center above it. It can kind of help guide that in a little bit, make life just a little bit easier for us.Now, another nice feature of this coupler is that we don't have to use a load bearing poin with it. Our set bolt is going to take care of holding everything in place. Basically that's going to give us more adjustability.
With the set bolt or, with the bolt that goes through the pin that goes through, generally it's two inches, two and eleven sixteenths and, that's kind of the options you've got to pick from. With this, we can dial it in closer to an inch or, a half an inch to get it just about perfect, get everything riding nice and level. Now as far as weight capacity goes, we're going to be looking at 20,000 pounds in gross trailer weight. That's going to be the total weight of your trailer and anything you load up on it.Of course you do keep in mind, you don't want to exceed the capacity of your trailer, you don't want to exceed the capacity of your truck. Now let's move onto the installation process. That's all going to depend on how you're starting out.If you already have your four inch round inside diameter tube here and, set bolt, you're going to be ready to put the coupler in. If, let's say you need to repair that, it's been damaged or, you're just building a new trailer and you need to add this on, you're going to have the outer tube included as well.Generally this is going to install set bolts forward and, it just gets welded on. Without it having been painted already, it's going to make that job a little bit easier, you wont' have to do a whole lot of grinding to get it in place. Now, with using this style, on our set bolts we need to get those torqued down, your best bet there is going to be a 23 millimeter, 12 point socket.
Then you can torque it down to the appropriate torque specifications. If you've got that torqued down, you're just going to run your jam nut down, then we can use an inch and an eight wrench, rather, to get this pressure put on that just to ensure that that's not going to back out on us.Now, in this application with our set bolt already being in place, we just need to slide the coupler portion up and in. That bolt's not backed out. Up and in and, we want to get the bottom to most closely match what we've already inaudible 00:04:08, where you want the bottom to be about two inches below the top of your ball mount in your truck. It's measured from the ground.Once we have that where we want it, we can position our handle wherever we want, anywhere around it, it doesn't really matter. Generally I position it towards the driver side, it's the side you're probably going to be on if you're just one person. But, once we've got it positioned where we want, we're going to tighten down that set bolt. Remember to torque it down properly.Once we've got that done, just like on the square set bolts there, gonna run that jam nut down, inch and an eighth wrench. Torque that, that way we won't have to worry about that backing off.And you can see, as we bring our coupler down, even though it is off by about an inch, that bevel's going to help guide it on there as the weight kind of goes down and on it.Now, once we get that down, we get our pressure down on there, we just need to slide that bottom plate rearward just a little bit, that's going to help to ensure that the pin engages properly.Make the rest of our connections. We're going to be ready to head down the road. That's going to complete our look at the two and five sixteenths inch gooseneck coupler.

Adjustable-height gooseneck coupler features an easy-to-grip, easy-to-access handle; steel construction; and 8" of vertical adjustment.I just received this goosneck hitch coupler in the mail. After opening the box it was everything that the description said. It seems to have good solid welds and the coupler seams so function smoothly. I will be installing it on my dump trailer that I'm building in the weeks to come. I do not see any reason thus far why this product should fail or give me problems. I compared it too a goosneck trailer that I purchased new and have used a lot over the years and it looks like a identical coupler. So far I would recommend this product if your building or repairing your goosneck trailer.
well made at a good price point. Going to use this component to fabricate a custom gooseneck hitch for an older 5th wheel camp trailer, no photos yet.
my goose neck trailer came from the factory with a fixed hitch. While this worked well for my older 2wd truck, not so much for the newer high ride 4wd trucks.
being a welder for well over 30 years the conversion of the new hitch was a snap.
Long story short, now the hitch is adjustable, the trailer levels out nicely, and pulls like it should.
Great product and service.
The coupler looks great haven't used it yet but the customer service I received was amazing
One I can't believe how quickly I received my coupler for my gooseneck trailer. The thing I loved most was that I got to talk to a real person. George was very helpful. I will come back I was very pleased with the pricing, the customer service and how quick I got my order. Thank you I can put my hammer away and start having a working coupler. Thank you George.
fast delivery! had to wait for weather to warm above 60 f so I could prime and paint. minimum prep req'd as steel was clean and not rusty. coupler was a replacement on my existing cattle trailer. old coupler was damaged (weld at bottom). Back in business within a week. THANKS! FRANK
Good hitch to build a fifth wheel adapter with like another review on here. It's heavy and dimensions are accurate. Will work well for my project.
Great service and quick delivery. Will recommend etrailer.com to anyone needing trailer parts.
Well built. Just as described.
Great price for a great product. I was building a 20ft gooseneck. Why pay $50 more for paint when I'm going to paint the thng anyway.
Product was in good condition and seems to be in fine shape. I want know if it is good until I use it but service was great.

Very well made. No rust. All parts, few they were, were there. Welded nice. Ups was rough with the box but it had a tear where the base of the coupler sticks out. Might need a little wrapping with all the material they use to ship it.
