Today we're going to take a look at the Taylor Made 15 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat hatch lid or compartment door. It does extend to ease lifting your hatch lid, and it will compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is a heat treated steel construction. It's very durable, uses a corrosion resistant coating that won't rust even in saltwater areas. And it easily installs in minutes. There's no special tools required.
It is a ball and socket installation. Basically it attaches to the ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch or compartment door. Now, when you do install this, you do want to make sure the inner rod here is facing down and it is recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. The connection type is a 10 millimeter ball socket. And basically when you go to install these, what you want to do is, let me just zoom in and show you the ends of them, they have a clip right here that when it's pushed down it applies pressure to hold it onto the ball. But when you go to remove your old one, you'll just take a small flat tip screwdriver, run it under that clip, pry it up.
You don't need to pop it off. You just pry it up enough, release the pressure, and then you can pull it right off the ball. And then when you go to install the new one, you just pry this up, again, you don't take it off, just pry it up a little bit, push it onto the ball and then push the clip right back down to secure it to the ball socket. Now the length on this, we're going to measure. It is measured from the center of this ball socket to the center of that ball socket. So if we take our tape measure center to center, there's your 15 inch measurement.
Compression force on this strut is 20 pounds and it is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 15 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches.
