Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Taylor Made Marine Gas Strut for Boat Hatches

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Taylor Made 10-1/2 inch long steel gas truck for boat hatches. Now, this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat hatch lid or compartment door. It does extend to ease the lifting of your hatch lid, and it will compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is a heat treated steel construction. It's very durable, has a nice corrosion resistant coating on it so it won't rust even in saltwater areas, and it easily installs in minutes.

There's no special tools required, uses a ball and socket installation. Basically, this will attach to the ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch or compartment door. Now, we do recommend when installing this that you want this inner rod right here always facing down. It is recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. We mentioned the connection type is a 10 millimeter ball socket. Actually, when you first go to remove the old one, what you'll want to do is there's a little clip on each end of these.

You'll take a flat tip screwdriver, pop, pry the clip up, and then release the old one. Then to put the new one on you'll do the same thing, is put a flat tip screwdriver under that clip, raise it up. You don't have to remove it, you just raise it up so it releases pressure on the ball socket. Then, you just put that on to the 10 millimeter ball, push that clip back down, it'll hold it into place. You do that on each end. Very simple installation. The length on this, which is measured from center to center, the ball socket is 10-1/2 inches, compression force is 80 pounds, and this is for quantity of one strut.

But, that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 10-1/2 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches.
