Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Universal - RP30035-309 Review

Today we're gonna take a look at the Reece Universal Base Rails and the Installation Kit with the spacers for a Toyota Tundra. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2007 and newer Toyota Tundra trucks and on a custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now the base rails in this kit will provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel trailer hitch to attach to. The spacer kit right here is gonna ensure the required half-inch spacing between the frame and the truck bed to prevent damage to the bed when you torque the bolts. These rails will work with fifth wheel hitches by Curt, DrawTite, Hidden Hitch, Reece, Valley, Huskey brands, and most standard fifth wheel hitches. They will not fit the Reece Elite Series or the Valley UBS Hitches. As you notice, the parts here, all the brackets and the rails are a sturdy steel construction with black powder coat finish to help resist corrosion. Now this kit will include the two base rails, the universal install brackets, the mounting hardware for all that, and then the spacer kit which consists of the two half-inch thick by one and a quarter inch wide spacers, three of these one and three-quarter inch long half-inch diameter grade five carriage bolts, three of the three-inch long, half inch diameter grade five carriage bolts, two of the beveled washers, two of the tube spacers, and a nice set of instructions on the spacer kit on how to install everything. That should do it for the review on the Reece Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit with the Spacers for a Toyota Tundra.

The Reese Universal rails were actually my second choice, because the rails made specifically for my Tundra would have been back-ordered for several weeks (due to availability). I had to install the hitch and pick up my 5th wheel right away and could not wait, so I went with the Reese rails. However, the Toyota service center that installed them said they were a good product and they did not have any difficulty installing them in the same time period that would have been required for the other Tundra specific rails. I am very pleased with this product and especially the helpful service that I got from etrailer to meet my timing demands.

Regular cab two door 4x4 5.7 Tundra pulling a 7500lb Grand design 28’ 5th wheel easily. Great hitch. Strong, durable, worth every penny. I paid a couple hundred to a body shop/ mechanic to install. They had no problem.

Ordering process was easy and received quickly. The installation instructions were easy to follow and understand. Installation went fairly quick at around 4.5 hrs.

I think the product was very good as a matter of fact it was better than anticipated. You may want to consider letting prospective buyers know the gage thickness of these rails Its like an injustice to them because the picture does not say a thousand words. Also it would be helpful if you had a giude that would prompt you as to how far apart to insta the second rail. Incidentally I had read a review and the gentleman stated that it took him 4 hrs and he didnt need the instructions. Dont believe him. The best part about ordering from you was the constant follow up. Thanks for every thing

  • Reese Hitch Recommendation for a 2007 Toyota Tundra 5.5 Bed Towing a Open Range Light Trailer
I did a little research on the pin box that is on the Open Range Lite fifth wheel and it does look like you could tow one of their trailers with your 2007 Toyota Tundra with a short bed. For a hitch for your 2007 Toyota Tundra with a 5.5 ft bed I would recommend you get a Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047 and Reese Rail Kit # RP30035-309. This hitch provides excellent jaw-to-king-pin contact with a 2 jaw latching system. If you were to ever try and tow a different trailer you will...

  • Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2012 Toyoda Tundra 6.5 Foot Bed
The universal installation kit # RP30035-309, fits so many applications because the brackets are not uniquely shaped to fit different vehicles. Because of this, you have to follow the supplemental instructions for the kit, linked for you, when installing it on a 2012 Toyota Tundra. If installed correctly, there should not be any interference issues. Another option which will be much easier to install, require less drilling, and less time, is a custom installation kit. The available custom...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2007 Toyota Tundra Crewmax
The first important thing to mention is that if using a Sidewinder, you would use a stationary hitch and not a slider. A slider could essentially be used if it remained locked in the towing position at all times, but then you just end up with a stationary hitch. The reason a sidewinder and slider cannot be used together is because the amount of stress on the trailer, hitch, and truck would be too great. You can certainly use the Reese 16k 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30047. You would need...

  • Will the Reese Universal Base Rails Installation Kit RP30035-309 Fit a Short Bed 2009 Toyota Tundra
Yes, the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit part # RP30035-309 will fit your 2009 Toyota Tundra and it can be used with a gooseneck plate to haul your car hauler trailer. If you do run into turning clearance issues we have an offset gooseneck plate, the Curt 25K Gooseneck Plate for 5th Wheel Rails part # 16055 which moves the connection point away from the cab for more clearance. Please note, the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit requires drilling into the frame...

The correct Reese fifth-wheel installation kit for your 2007 Toyota Tundra with 6-1/2 foot bed is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit with Spacers, item # RP30035-309. • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Sidewinder for 5th Wheel Towing with 2010 Toyota Tundra 5-1/2 Foot Bed
For your 2010 Toyota Tundra with a 5-1/2 foot bed, you will need to use a stationary trailer hitch, like # RP30047 with installation kit # RP30035-309, and a sidewinder in order to have enough clearance to execute 90 degree turns safely. I have included a link to the installation details below for the hitch. There are some measurements you can take to be sure the sidewinder, which offers the most clearance at 22 inches, will work. Start by measuring the distance from the center of the...

  • Recommendation of Fifth Wheel Hitch and 5th Airborne Sidewinder For 2007 Toyota Tundra CrewMax
The 2007 Toyota Tundra CrewMax comes with a 5-1/2 foot bed so you will need to use a fixed hitch with the 5th Airborne king pin with Sidewinder to get the needed clearance between the truck cab, and the front of the fifth wheel. The size of hitch you will need depends on the weight of the fifth wheel you will be towing. If 16,000 lbs gross towing weight will work I would use the Reese 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch, part # RP30047. If it does match then you have several installation kit options for your 2007 Toyota Tundra with 8 foot bed. • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for 2012 Toyota Tundra Short Bed and Clearance Measurements
Yes, you can mathematically determine clearance for turning while towing a 5th wheel trailer. There are several measurements needed. 1) Distance from the back of the truck cab to the center of where the king pin will be when coupled 2) Distance from center of king pin to front of trailer overhang 3) Overall width of the front of the trailer So for example if measurement 1 is 30 inches and the king pin is 10 inches in front of the trailer that adds up to 40 inches. If you then used a slider...

  • What is the Correct Drill Bit Size to Install Base Rail Kit # RP30035-309 on a 2018 Toyota Tundra
The start of the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035-309 instructions are universal. Since the instructions for your 2018 Toyota Tundra say to use a 9/16" drill bit and this is only 1/32" larger than 17/32" I would just use the 9/16" drill bit. Either drill bit will work though since the bolts have a 1/2" diameter.

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Be Towed by a 2007 Toyota Tundra Crew Max with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
First, the Convert-A-Ball adapter, # CAB-C5GX1216, is designed for towing a 5th wheel trailer if the truck has a gooseneck trailer hitch. If your truck has a gooseneck hitch using an adapter will make the trailer further back if there is an offset, however, since the pivot point of the trailer does not change, you will not get extra clearance to make tight turns, something that is a necessity for camp grounds and other places where space is limited. The only way that you might be able...

  • Why Cant a Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Used on a 2008 Toyota Tundra 5-1/2 Foot Bed
With beds shorter than 6 feet long, like on your 2008 Toyota Tundra, you absolutely need to have a Sidewinder pin box and fixed hitch in order to make 90 degree turns without hitting the trailer and truck cab together. That 6 inches may not seem like a lot but it makes a huge difference and even some 6 and 6-1/2 foot beds would have to have a Sidewinder depending on how wide the trailer is. Also, the slider in a 5-1/2 foot bed would not be able to slide back when the trailer is hitched...

You can install a fifth wheel hitch on your vehicle as long as it is a slider fifth wheel. You should also be able to keep the cover as long as you can fully roll it up when towing the trailer. You will need an install kit to solidly attach the fifth wheel to your truck. The install kit for your 2007 Toyota Tundra is part # RP30035-309 from Reese. • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for Reese Hitch Installed in 2008 Toyota Tundra Short Bed
Your Reese slider fifth wheel hitch can easily be transferred to your 2008 Toyota Tundra. All you need is the correct rail kit confirmed as a fit for the truck. For that I would recommend the custom install kit part # RP50084-58 as it will install much easier and faster than a universal style kit and because it minimizes drilling as well. The universal kit that is a fit for your truck is the part # RP30035-309 which is priced better but the install will be much more involved and time consuming.

  • Compatibility of Anderson Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection w/ 2015 Toyota Tundra Crewmax
The Andersen Ultimate Connection you referenced, part # AM3200 isn't meant to be used in trucks with beds shorter than 6 feet. If you don't already have bed rails in your truck, you can install them using part # C16304-200. The hitch you'll need will depend on the weight of your fifth wheel. The non-sliding...

  • Can a 2008 Toyota Tundra with 5-1/2 Foot Bed Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer
I do have a great solution for you but first a little background information. A slider hitch is not going to work on a truck with a bed shorter than 6 feet long. The issue is that the slider will not offer enough travel for you to be able to make tight turns without hitting the truck and trailer together. You would also have to remove the truck tailgate to even slide the hitch back. The first thing you are going to need for your 2008 Toyota Tundra 5-1/2 foot bed is an installation kit....

I did some rough calculations and based on what I have found I do not think you will be able to tow a 96 inch wide trailer even with a Sidewinder. However, you will want to take some measurements yourself just to be sure. Find the center line of the rear axle and then measure forward 3-1/2 inches. From that point measure to the back of the truck cab. Then add 22 inches for the clearance provided by the Sidewinder. That measurement will have to be at least 52 inches or more for you to safely...
