Today, we're going to take a look at the Curt 18-inch Long Combo Bar with the 2.5-inch Trailer Hitch Receiver Opening in an unpainted raw finish. Now this combo bar is used to fabricate a hitch receiver, where a bolt on hitch receiver is not available. This is designed to accept any 2.5-inch by 2.5-inch ball mount shank. Does have this nice half-inch forged collar reinforcement around the front here for increased strength. And as I mentioned, it is an unpainted raw finish, so it allows for immediate welding.Does have a pre-drilled five-eighths inch diameter hitch pin hole. Does require a hitch pin and clip to hold your ball mount in place, that is sold separately.
We recommend to use part number C21582, and it's listed on this product page as a related product. This part is made in the USA. Overall length on this, if we measure from the very front to the very end is right at 18 inches. And the measurement from the front to the center of the hitch pin hole is right at 2.5 inches. But that should do it for the review on the Curt 18-inch Long Combo Bar with the 2.5-inch Trailer Hitch Receiver Opening in an unpainted raw finish..

I bought two of these to make a hitch holder for the bed of my truck. This is a quality product. The bare metal was covered in plastic and had very little if any rust on it which cut prep time down prior to welding. I like the design of this product in that it includes the rounded lip on the front of the product which helps inserting hevy hitch stingers. The actual product I received has a mild steel lip on it rather than the apparent hardened steel in the product photo, but it works the same notheless. The steel welded well and I have since order an additional receiver for another project. For the price it can't be beat.
I have a Billy Goat Leaf Loader swing away hitch mount but it didn't come with a hitch to pull a trailer I have a 4x8 open trailer (2000 lb max). So I decided to weld a hitch to it. I also used 1/4 inch thick metal to reinforce the hitch and used etrailer's Safety Chain Loop for Hitch Receivers. I used mig welder with 120amps and had to make extra beads, 3 to 4 beads in some spots i primed it and painted it works great! Thank You etrailer!!!

Great company to deal with, the only reason I gave four stars was because when I ordered a 2-1/2” receiver tube over a 2” tube I would hope it would be a schedule 80 tube with a heavier wall. It has the same wall thickness of schedule 40 like on a 2” tube. I have bent 2” tubes in the past towing equipment so I figured I’d try a bigger size . Also the hitch drop mount is a bit loose and sloppy in the receiver tube.
After looking at pre made front hitches I decided to build my own (the ones on the market drop down below the bumper and cowling putting them about 3"off the ground) This tubing is perfect for the 2.5" winch basket I use.
