Video Transcript for Review of Erickson Electric Winch - Off-Road Series Winch - EM57EV

Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at our 17,500 pound rated Erickson Off-Road Series Winch with a wire rope and a nice roller fairlead. Folks, a nice heavy duty series truck slash off-road recovery winch. This will let you pull your stuck vehicle out of mud, snow, dirt, sand, maybe if you're on the dunes, water, out of a ditch, a steep incline, things like that. It's gonna be great for work trucks, Jeeps, off-road vehicles, buggies, those kind of things of the heavy duty size. Now it is recommended for vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 8,750 pounds, but the winch itself is rated for 17,500 pounds.

So keep in mind when you have weight on wheels and stuff, it's just gonna roll a lot better and easier than a static, you know, sliding on the ground kind of weight. That being said, the motor here is a great six horsepower series wound motor and that's gonna deliver fast, powerful, and safe line pull. It is a lot more powerful and more efficient, produces even more torque than those permanent magnet motors you see out there on the different options. Now you can't see it here but there are drain holes underneath the motor housing here that's gonna help moisture and water escape and prevent moisture buildup. The contacts and everything inside of the electrical box and everything on the winch are sealed, so it's gonna transmit power from your vehicle's battery to the winch motor and it is water and weather resistant to IP68 specifications.

You can see they give you a nice, thick, heavy-duty gauge wire on both the red and black positive, negative and everything there is sealed up nice and tight. Now as far as the gear and everything, it's an all steel three stage planetary gear train and that's gonna provide increased drum speed when compared to like a one or two stage model winch. And it also has the free pull option so you can, you know, spin this whichever way it says on here, engage, disengage, that way you can free spool out the wire rope as needed. Now over here on the top you got this rubber plug that's gonna hide and keep covered the connection point for the winch cable or the remote cable rather, sorry. So that plugs in there and you got a nice length of cord and then that plugs into this remote.

There's a slot in here, you gotta match that up to the remote. That plugs right in there and then you've got your in-out and then it says wired and wireless. You can actually unplug this if you need to use this remote wirelessly. And when it's plugged in and everything's hooked up, that's how it's gonna get its charge and everything. So that's a nice little feature.

Now the wire rope, it is 15/30" thick. It's zinc plated, it's super strong and abrasion resistant. It is 85 feet long in total length and the hook here as you can see is really big and robust and they give you the included hand saver strap out of nylon. This is a half inch thick on the connection and it's a G70 steel clevis hook, very big and beefy. All the steel rollers here on the fairlead. Everything here is gonna keep that wire rope rolling and not scratching everything. And also keep it from, you know, getting nicks and burrs and those kind of stuff on there. The whole thing's a heavy duty powder coated steel. It's got a nice clear anodized finish over the top of everything that's gonna resist corrosion. And if I we inchesre to flip this over, which I can't, 'cause the thing weighs 122 pounds, if you flip it over, the mounting pattern is a standard 10 inch by 4-1/2" on those bolt patterns. Now the tie bars here, as you can see, they're super thick, they're extra thick and the frame size are extra thick as well. That's gonna give you a nice strong, robust, rigid winch body itself. Now let's talk line speed. I'm actually pretty impressed. This thing has an impressive 23-1/2' per minute line speed, so that's pretty impressive. And again, a line pull is 17,500 max. The power draws 450 amps. And as far as the line speed on the motorized part, so again that line speed at 23-1/2' per minute, that's if you're free spooling out basically. If you're using the winch motor, it's 2-13/16'. So two feet, almost three feet per minute. The gear ratio 432:1, it's got an automatic brake on it so it's gonna hold a hundred percent of the payload whenever it has to stop. Whenever you're not engaged in the winch and everything, it's gonna hold it nice and tight for you. And as far as some dimensions, when I measured side to side, I got right at 22" long and when I did a width, just the winch body, not counting the fairlead or anything, I got right at 7-3/4" wide and on a height, if I count the electrical box over here, right at 11" tall. So those are some dimensions for you. Again, that's without the fairlead installed and everything. So I hope that helps you folks. And recommended battery size for max power is 850 cold cranking amps. And that's gonna wrap it up for our quick look at this Erickson Off-Road Series Winch. I'm Steven, thanks so much for watching and have a great day.
