This off-road recovery winch lets you pull your stuck vehicle out of mud, snow, water or a ditch and up steep inclines. The integrated power unit is mounted over the drum and housed in an die-cast aluminum cover. This makes it ideal for use on rock crawlers, Jeeps, and off-road racing 4x4 trucks. It's simple to install - just bolt the winch and roller fairlead to a mounting plate (sold separately), bolt the plate to your bumper, and run the power lead to your vehicle's battery. This winch includes a wire rope, a roller fairlead, a free-spool clutch for easy rope payout, and a clockable gearbox so you can reach the clutch handle if you have to mount it in a tight location. DV Series Motor

The DV-9s features a 4.6-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 9,000 lbs of line pull. This heavy-duty, series-wound motor is more powerful and more dependable than a permanent magnet motor, and it generates more torque and dispenses heat more efficiently when operating at high speeds. It's constructed of durable, corrosion-resistant materials including the die-cast aluminum housing, steel drum, carbon steel motor tube, copper battery terminals, and carbon- and stainless steel hardware.


Integrated Power Unit with Sealed Contactor

DV Series Power Unit

The contactor - or solenoid - transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. The 400-amp contactor - located inside the power unit - is sealed for submersion in water or mud. The integrated, aluminum power unit is mounted over the rope drum. This adds structural support in place of traditional tie-bars, and it also provides the rope with better protection from rocks when compared with plastic power units. The aluminum power unit housing has a gray powder coat for rust resistance. The copper terminals and stainless steel and carbon steel hardware are corrosion resistant, and the motor leads have rubber boots for water resistance.


Built-In Overheat Sensor

There is a built-in sensor located inside the motor housing that monitors the motor temperature. If the motor exceeds 212 degrees, an audible alarm in the power unit sounds and an LED on the remote glows red. The alarm will turn off when power to the winch has been shut down, and the LED will turn green when the motor has cooled and can be used again.

The DV-9s has a free-spool clutch with a rotating ring gear that enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to unroll the rope. To release the clutch for free-spooling simply pull and turn the spring-loaded handle. To reengage the clutch, lift and rotate the handle back to the position indicated by the icon on the label.


The clutch is driven by a hardened-steel, 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage planetary gear trains.


The gearbox can be rotated in 36-degree increments so you can reposition the clutch handle to an easy-to-reach location. This is great when mounting foot-forward on custom and in-bumper applications or on a vehicle with a small engine where space is extremely limited.


The rustproof, die-cast aluminum gearbox is sealed to keep out moisture, and it has a gray powder coat finish for corrosion resistance.


Automatic, Load-Holding Cone Brake Structure

The automatic CBS (Cone Brake Structure) holds 100 percent of the load without unintentional rope payout (or creep). It has a cone-shaped wheel that presses against the brake clamp when there is a load on the rope. The greater the load on the rope the harder the cone-shaped wheel presses against the clamp. This pressure creates enough friction to slow and ultimately stop the drum's rotation.


The cone brake is located on the outside of the drum so the heat created from friction is kept away from the motor and the rope. This prevents potentially damaging heat buildup near the motor.


Hand-Held Remote with LED

DV Series Hand-Held Remote

A hand-held remote with a 17' lead and In/Out rocker switch lets you control the winch from a safe distance. The remote is constructed of durable plastic, and it's sealed and waterproof so it won't get damaged in wet conditions. It has a built-in LED that turns green when you are powering the rope in or out, turns red to indicate an overheated motor, and turns off when the winch is inactive.

There is a rubber-sealed plug on the side of the power unit that houses the attachment port for the remote control. Simply plug the remote into the power unit when you need to use it, and disconnect it to store it away when you aren't using it. The plug prevents water from getting into the unit when you are not using the remote.


There is also a wireless hand-held remote (sold separately) available that lets you operate the winch from up to 90' away.


Wire Rope

The wire rope is made of high-strength, aircraft-grade galvanized steel that resists abrasions and is able to withstand harsh UV rays, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.


The rope winds around a solid steel drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.


A hand-saver strap is included to use in conjunction with work gloves (sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook. A rock bag (BD500549 - sold separately) is also recommended. The rock bag helps prevent a broken rope from snapping back by forcing it to the ground.


Clevis Hook

The removable clevis hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook attaches to the steel thimble on the end of the synthetic rope.


Roller Fairlead

The roller fairlead has a thick steel frame with 4 steel rollers. The rollers reduce friction when you're pulling the rope in or paying it out, and they prevent the rope from becoming pinched when pulling at extreme angles. It has a black powder coat finish and zinc-plated rollers that are tough and corrosion resistant. The fairlead installs with the included steel hardware.


Note: The roller fairlead does not mount directly to the winch - it typically attaches to tabs on the winch mounting plate that bolts to your bumper (sold separately) or grille guard (sold separately). ComeUp mounting channels and most aftermarket mounts include these tabs.

DV Series Winch Body

The DV-9i winch is constructed of strong, durable materials that perform no matter the weather conditions or terrain. The motor and gearbox housing are constructed of heavy-duty yet lightweight die-cast aluminum. The contactor is sealed to keep water out. And the side frame drum supports and power unit base help to create a strong and rigid winch body.


Installation

You will need a suitable mounting location to install the winch on the front of your vehicle. Winch mounts are built into many aftermarket bumpers and grille guards. Alternatively, you can install a universal front-mount plate (sold separately) to create a mounting point for both your winch and fairlead. The integrated winch is easy to install. Simply bolt the winch and fairlead to a mounting plate (sold separately) then bolt the mounting plate to your bumper.


Seal Gen2 Winch Body

Use the included wiring to connect the winch to your vehicle's battery. Quick connects (CU881076 - sold separately) are available to make removing and re-installing the winch easy.

The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.


Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.


Vehicle Recovery and Winch Capacity

To select the appropriate off-road/recovery winch for your application, determine your gross vehicle weight. The GVW is the stand-alone weight of your vehicle plus the weight of any items in and on the vehicle. Once you have determined the GVW of your vehicle, choose a winch with a capacity that is 1-1/2 times your GVW. Using that formula, this winch - with a 9,000-pound capacity - will work for vehicles with an approximate GVW of 6,000 pounds.

To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.


The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.


Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.

Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881079 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to a tree saver strap (CU881662 - sold separately) with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Or use the 8-piece rigging kit (CU882068- sold separately) that includes everything you need for heavy duty recovery. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Video Transcript for ComeUp DV-9 Series Winches Review

Today we will be taking a look at the COMEUP DV9 Series Electric Winches. Part number, CU856333, which will be the DV9, part number CU856363, which is the DV-9i, CU859112, which will be the DV-9s, and part number CU859012. Here we are with our truck stuck in the mud. We just need a little assistance to get it out. We'll go ahead and winch out now. We're going to go ahead and grab the winch out of the back of our truck and put it in the front. This COMEUP winch is going to be great with that cradle and accessibility to getting it put in the front of the vehicle when you need it the most.

Let's go ahead and grab our hitch pin and put into our front receiver. We'll go ahead and run our remote control out from the inside of the vehicle out to the front. We'll line up the six pins and you'll see how it's going to have a little indent there. We'll line that up on top and slide it in to our bridge control module here on the top. It just so happens that there's a tree almost straight down in front of our vehicle. We're going to use that tree as an anchor point to winch ourselves out.

Let's go ahead and put on our tree saver. We'll go ahead and get into our accessory bag and undo our hook and loop straps securing our tree saver. We'll put the tree saver around our tree. We'll go ahead and slide these around the back of the tree so we don't rough up our strap and then we're going to place on our D ring. We'll go ahead and put our pin in temporarily and drag out our line.

We'll go ahead and turn the clutch to disengage that way we can manually pull out all our line. Grab the hand saver here and drag out the line. You can see here the roller in action. Not allowing the cable to get kinked up on the sides allowing you to pull vertical, down and side to side. We'll pull our cable out to where we meet up with our tree. Place our cable through our snatch block, rotate it around and then we'll hook it in that D ring.

We're going to do a single pull out right now and attach to a solid anchor point, which is going to be the vehicle up the hill. Now that we're here we're going to go ahead and drop it down and we're going to place our strap around the end of the D ring hooked to our anchor vehicle. We'll go ahead and undo the hook and loop strap and we're going to place it through our D ring here on the anchor vehicle. We'll go ahead and place the other end of the strap through our D ring, place in our bolt and hook up our winch cable. Now, we're ready to start winching it back in. Engage your clutch and then pull in your line. Now that we have our line nice and tight we'll go ahead and place on our recovery damper in the middle of our line that way in case if our line we're to come undone and pop off we wouldn't get hit with anything because it will keep line down on the ground. You'll fill this up with rocks before you get started. Now, we're ready to start recovering our vehicle. We're going to put our vehicle in park and let it out a little bit so we can undo our tree saver and pull it out the rest of the way with our straight pull. With our line tight let's go ahead and get back in the truck and finish our way out. Now that we've made it out of the mud whole and we're up on some level and flat ground that's dry and easy to manage we're going to go ahead and undo our winch. We'll go ahead and let a little bit out and then we'll disengage our clutch. Lift up on the T handle here on top, rotate it around into the position noted here on the front. Now, we'll go ahead and guide it back in to get it spooled up properly. Instead of doing the single pull method with the snatch block and the tree saver we're going to go ahead and use that tree saver to go ahead and double back to the vehicle and do the double line method. Using the double line method with the snatch block is going to double the capacity of our winch. That's going to be for those desperate times when you need that extra power to pull yourself out if you had cut your line linked in half as well as your line speed. Now, you're just going to have to be within 50 feet of your snatch block instead of within 100 feet of your anchor point. Go ahead and put down our heady accessory bag here, open it up and pull out that tree saver again. Go ahead and wrap it around our tree, go ahead and attach our 3/4" D ring and tighten down our bolt. Now, we'll go ahead and grab our remote and plug it in so we can let out line a little bit and then we will disengage our clutch here on the top. Disengage and pull it out. Grab that hand saver here on top to help you pull it. Now, we can go ahead and pull off that D ring that was holding our tree saver in place and put on our snatch block around our wire. Grab that snatch block, rotate it around and put it through the D ring. Now, we'll go ahead and run our line and cable back to the vehicle. I'll go ahead and attach it to our factory tow hook and then put our dampener on this side of the line in case that if that pops off that it isn't going to fly out. Undo the hook and loop and slide it over the line. Go ahead and bring it to the center and set it down. All right, we'll go ahead and pull up the tension and then get inside the vehicle and pull it out the rest of the way. Make sure you re-engage the clutch before you get started. Now that we've got our co-pilot in the vehicle he's going to help guide the vehicle while we sit up here and pull it to the front making sure that line stays straight inside the winch. As we're spooling it up we can keep it spooling nice and tight on the front of the vehicle while we're pulling our vehicle out that way when we get out for the next recovery, if we need to have another one, we're not going to be under a challenge to straighten out our spool. This one here on the end is going to be the DV-9, the DV-9i, which are going to be your cable, electric winches. The only major difference with these is going to be is that one is going to have the removable control module. It can be relocated underneath the hood or in a different compartment away from the actual winch itself. Whereas the DV-9i is going to have the bridge control module over the top. Both will have the roller fairlead for the DV-9 and the DV-9i as well as the hooks and mounting hardware included and your remote control. The reason this one looks a little bit different from the DV-9 besides the bridge control module over the top is we already have it mounted in our cradle. For our application today we're actually going to show the DV-9 series in action with this one here. This is going to be part number CU881084, which is going to be the multi-purpose mount kit for the DV-9 series. Here we have the DV-9s and the DV-9si. These are going to be your synthetic rope applications with a Hawse fairlead rather than the roller fairlead as well as a different style hook for our synthetic cable. It's still going to come with your remote control that will just simply plug into the side as well as the connections that you'll need to make to get it hooked up to your vehicle on all these applications for the DV-9 series. One thing to make perfectly clear with these DV-9 series COMEUP winches is that they all are going to be electric winches. All the DV-9 series are going to have the same gearing and the same motors. The only thing that's going to be different is going to be the control module whether it's going to be the removable one that you can relocate or the bridge model that you see here. The cable, whether it's going to be the synthetic or the wire, like you see here and the fairlead, whether that's going to be the roller style with that cable or the Hawse fairlead that comes with the synthetic cable. Other than that, the mechanical aspects are the exact same. Now, we're going to go ahead and talk about the detachable control module and the control module that you can relocate underneath the hood in the vehicle or in a different location. Now, you're control module, you're going to have all your cable to hook everything up. They're all labeled and correspond with the stamped notes on the top. Something else that's going to be unique about this is everything is going to be water tight. Even if you do locate this underneath the hood, under the bumper, wherever you're going to locate it, you're not going to have to worry about any kind of debris getting in there and messing things up. On the top you'll have your dust cover. We'll go ahead and plug in our hand held control. Line up the prongs and place it in. It's as simple as that. You have your wrist strap, slide your wrist through unless you've got really big hands, to ensure you don't lose it. If you need to move something you can still have it on your hand. You're going to have your out or spool out and your spool in. If you need to spool out your cable all your going to do is hit that disengage to disengage that clutch, so pull up and twist it just as the notes here on the side say. Pull out that cable, come back to the vehicle, pop it back into gear, hook up your control and winch yourself out. A couple of other things we're going to brush on here is going to be our hook for our cable, which will be that DV-9 and that DV-9i. This is going to be for your cable style eclectic winches, these two here. Simply remove the clip and pin, place it in and then place it back through just like so. The DV-9 series and the DV-9s are going to have this black removable contact box that's going to be fully sealed and fully submersible and water right resistance. The heavy duty silver alloy contact pads on the inside, the thick copper bus bars are going to help make lasting contact over a long period of time. The heavy duty series wound motor delivers a superior torque output and a faster line speed. The motor, rated at 3,430 watts for 4.6 horsepower on a 12 volt series wound circuit. The rugged and quiet three stage planetary gears offer a maximum mechanical advantage with a gear ratio of 156:1. Something else that's really unique about the clutch and brake assembly here on the side is you can just loosen up this hardware here, the three Allen bolts on the side and rotate that clutch handle around if it's not in a desired located that you'd like to have it. With this braking system, it's automatically going to endure the full load without slipping. The greater the load on the rope the greater amount of braking is going to be generated by the mechanism. With that big drum being mounted on the outside it's going to expedite any departure of any of the heat, which is going to be great for anybody using the synthetic rope system. The nice ergonomic remote is going to be included as well with a hand and wrist strap as well as the finger indentions on the side for easy holding. It will also have your safety rubber pieces on either side so you're not bumping it when you don't want to hit it. Also located here is going to be LED lights. With a thermometric LED indicator, which is automatically going to alert you when receiving a warning that the motor is overheating. With 17 feet of cable you can easily stretch it back to the inside of the vehicle or away from harm. The DV-9 series winches are rated at 9,000 pounds single line pull. This doesn't mean that it's going to pull 9,000 pounds no matter what you're doing. That's going to be your static load over a flat ground. You're going to need to know what your weight ratings are use those accordingly. The rope dimension is 21/64th in diameter by 100 feet long. The mounting bolt pattern on the bottom is 4 1/2 wide by 10 inches long. It's recommended that you have a battery that has 650 cold cranking amps. The battery leads will be 6 foot for your 2 gauge wire. The cable is going to be made of a galvanized air craft A7 x 19 and it's going to be heavy duty graded steel and cable. When you're using the cable you're going to want to use that roller fairlead, which is going to be mounted up here on the front giving you the full capability of rolling any which way or direction, whether it's up, down, side to side and it's not going to get bound up. Full roller all the way around. When you're using the synthetic rope you're not going to be able to use this because it will get pinched in between. You're going to want to go with that Hawse fairlead that's going to mount up straight on the front. It's going to come with all your mounting hardware, whether that's to mount it up to your universal bracket or to mount up your fairlead to the front. For the DV-9 and the DV-9s it's going to come with clamps to clamp on your control module. Let's go ahead and jump over and talk about the synthetic rope systems, which is the DV-9s and the DV-9si. The si is going to have that bridge contact unit that's going to be mounted over the top for those applications that don't require those tight mounting quarters like the DV-9s and the DV-9 are going to have that contact module that's going to give you the ability to mount it anywhere in the vehicle. You're also going to get that special forged steel hook that's going to go on the front with that heavy duty clip and special mounting bracket that's going to have that push pin adapter. This is all going to make it to where it doesn't get pinched, frayed or split in your winching system. Again, with that hand saver, all the mounting hardware, remote control and that Hawse fairlead. This Hawse fairlead is going to allow for no pinching points especially on this last part of your rope and for this part out where it's going to have the most tension and capability of getting frayed. It's not going to get any damage coming through that Hawse fairlead like it would if it was going through your roller fairlead. Under a no load circumstances, you're going to have a maximum line speed of 44 feet per minute pulling a total of 55 amps from your 12 volt system. Now, with a full load of 9,000 pounds you'll have a line speed of 6.4 feet per minute and a total of 350 amps drawing from your 12 volt system. This has been a great winch. We use it hard almost every day loading portable buildings. My only issues 1) I was led to believe it came with a remote control, it didn't 2) the hard wired control is giving us problems starting and stopping the winch. 466122
