This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Hopkins plug-in vehicle wiring harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1996 to 1999 Chevrolet Express Vans and the GMC Savannah Vans without the factory trailer connector. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year model vehicle, and sure if this will work for your application. Now this kit here provides a 4-way flat trailer connector to the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights.
It is compatible with five poles, six pole, and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately. And what's nice with this harness, it does connect very quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate your connection points, which are behind the tail light, plug in these connectors, one on each side. The one with the yellow wire in it, it's for the driver's side. The one with the length of green is for your passenger side.
So once you get those both plugged in, then you can run your 4-way out towards the back. Now it does include the circuit protected tail light converter right here. And this is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer, provides protection against electrical shorts and overloads, and it is a powered module connects directly to the vehicle's battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. It does come with this nice dust cap for your 4-way. So basically what you can do with that is install it and you can leave it on there if you prefer.
Once you get it on there, if you're not plugged in to your trailer, you just put your cap on there, and it protects those terminals from any damage or from the elements. It comes with a couple cable ties to attach this converter box down. And then it even comes with some terminal grease that you wanna apply to all your electrical connections when you make them. Now the maximum amperage on this for the stop and turn light circuits is 2.1 amps per circuit.
