  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your trunk, behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the rear scuff panel and pull back the felt trunk liner to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

2012 ChevroletCruze

Installed on my 2012 LT Cruze with RS package. Excellent product. Only been installed for about a week now so i don't have longevity testing. Installed it myself. I've wired speakers for 2 different cars before. First time doing trailer wiring harness. It was easy, I just took my time to do it right. Instructional video shows to run in under the car (exposed to elements). I decided to run the power cable under the driver side thresholds through the firewall up to the battery. The hard part was the firewall as usual. Check youtube for that. Seems to be a quality product. Way easier then trying to splice into the OEM wire harness. Forgot to get pictures during install, but the supplied etrailer video covers the important parts.

2015 ChevroletCruze

I installed the trailer hitch on a Chevy Cruze in about 15 minutes. I had watched the video on eTrailer's site so knew what to expect. The wiring was a bit more tricky with having to run a wire to the battery on the underside of the car (needed for this Chevy). The T connectors to the tail lights in the trunk worked slick. The wiring took me about an hour. The instructions were great and the wiring works.

2014 Chevy Cruze

I ordered the hidden hitch and wiring harness for my 2014 Cruz. The hitch was on in less than 30 minutes after opening the box. Easy install, well thought out design didn't even require lowering the muffler.
Wiring kit was a bit more work, but that's to be expected when you must take apart trim and run wires from front of car all the way to the back. Not technically difficult, just a PITA. Excellent fast customer service and good pricing. I am a repeat customer for good reason. Thanks guys!

2012 ChevroletCruze

I watched the wiring video and installed the harness. The hardest part was running the power wire from the back of the car to the battery. I put the power wire in a wire loom to prevent bare spots from shorting out and ran it through holes in the frame where I could.

by:

The hitch and all ordered accessories arrived early and in excellent shape. Well packed.

Since I have not installed the hitch yet I can't comment on ease of installation. But it appears to be quite straight forward.

So this is 10x better then cut and splice into my factory Harness like the old days. Literally plug the factory brake harness into the converter box, sand a little area for the self tapping screw that’s holds ground wire, (the hardest part of install) run the power wire from battery back to trunk. I’m a normal DIY guy and this made child’s play of wiring, a super clean and easy install. For 80$ it works perfectly and gets rid of body control module problems. The curt [video] page also had my Exact car and kit being installed with clear and easy to follow steps. Definitely worth it.

2013 ChevroletCruze

I've done plenty of electrical installs and I must say that this one is one of the easiest. The hardest part was running the dedicated power wire to the battery but only because I wanted it ran properly and be protected against the elements. I ran mine through the cab and hid everything. I initially thought the harness was a bit pricey but once I seen the quality I was satisfied with my purchase.

2015 ChevroletCruze

Delivery was quick. Installation was pretty easy. Hardest part is getting the power wire from the battery to the trunk. I used the video on the etrailer website to install the hitch and then I found videos [online] for installing the wiring.
I will definitely use etrailer again.

Fast Delivery!
I watched the video on
installing the kit when I ordered it.
Installed the kit 3 days later with no issues.
Excellent video, very helpful.

Etrailers products always exceed my needs. I have used them for my past 3 trailer set ups and will continue to use them. Their customer service is excellent. The trailers hitches are so easy to install too! 10/10 would definitely recommend.

by:
2014 ChevroletCruze

The wiring harness was pretty easy to install and is working well. Note that you will need the ability to raise the vehicle for access, and you may need to adjust the routing of the wires from the engine compartment to the back of the vehicle. Online video instructions were a big help.

2012 ChevroletCruze

Haven't installed the trailer hitch on my 12 Chevy Cruze yet but received everything I had ordered quick and all in one piece. My Curt hitch was in great shape and looks like a very easy to set up. Overall very happy with the product and service I have received.

by:
2014 ChevroletCruze

The wiring harness was a challenge to install. The connectors supplied by Curt fell apart or the wires fell out. There are no extra parts so I would advise having connectors on hand prior to starting.

This is not a reflection of etrailer. etrailer provided the parts timely and did all I expected them to do.

by:

Excellent fitment and easy to install! Make sure the ground contact is good, used a bolt instead of small self tapping screw supplied, Also used shrink/weatherproof crimp fitting over the supplied hardware for corrosion protection. Plug and play Great product overall!

by:

The trailer wiring harness C56214 is awesome easy to install matter of fact my two great nephews 11 and 10 yrs. old installed most of it couldn't ask for a better product thanks curt

by:

Trailer hitch kit bolted on no problem and wiring kit the same.
Would recommend both. Fast and easy!

ChevroletCruze

A year later it still works... I threaded the power wire from the battery through the car cabin rather than under the car. I feel that the wire is less prone to damage. It was also much easier to do it that way on the diesel Cruze because of the body panels under the car....especially since I do not have a lift to work under.

by:

A bit tedious to install, at first. Make sure you watch the Curt installation video so you know what tools you’ll need for the job. Good quality wiring kit. Tested it after installation and all the connections worked the first time

Ordered drawtite hitch and wiring harness. Price was good, service was excellent. Harness and hitch will be installed by Mieneke in the morning. Car is a 2015 Cruze LTZ.

2015 ChevroletCruze

I have a 2015 Cruze Diesel. This product came quickly, was an exact fit and worked perfectly. The instructions and video were excellent. I have I spent less than 3 hours in total on the install. An hour of that was "scouting out" the run for the battery power lead. I looked at both routing inside the cabin and underneath the car. Decided to go underneath and ran along the emergency brake cable.

by:

Very happy with the wiring harness. Easy to install and works great! Really enjoy doing business with etrailer!

by:
2013 ChevroletCruze

The wire harness was complete and made of quality material. Installation was harder than originally expected. Online video was very helpful.

by:

Had technician install electricals. Too Tricky for me. But it works well. No problems.

by:

Outstanding ! Service, Fast delivery, of my hitch and mounting hardware.

by:
2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited

product works well once installed. however, unless you have a professional car lift or a vehicle that sits high off the ground the power wire is very difficult to run from battery to trunk.

  • Will Vehicle Lights Still Work After Incomplete Harness Installation
The Curt wiring harness you referenced, part # C56214, does require a 12V power connection to your vehicle battery in order to operate your trailer's lights. However, if this power wire is not run to the battery, the vehicle's tail lights should still behave normally since the harness plugs in on the vehicle in parallel. The harness will not be able to provide power to a trailer's lights without the 12V power feed. I have linked you to an article that shows how to route that power wire...

  • Will Lights Still Work On 2014 Chevrolet Cruze If Harness Installation Is Not Completed
If you do not run the wire to the battery when installing your harness, the tail lights on your 2014 Chevrolet Cruze should still work. The harness will not have power so any trailer you would connect would not have the required 12 Volt power. Should you decide to attach the wire at a later date, I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to run the power wire you can check out. There should be instructions included with the wiring harness that will show how to run the...

  • Does Curt Trailer Wiring for a 2012 Chevy Cruze Require a Direct Connection to the Vehicle Battery
The Curt wiring harness for the 2012 Chevy Cruze, # C56214, does require a direct connection to the vehicle battery. The unit receives power needed from the vehicle battery. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

  • Is The Curt T-Connector # C56214 Compatible With An Aftermarket Sound System And LED Lights
The Curt T-Connector # C56214 will bypass all of the vehicles wiring. So any wiring for your sound system or LED lights will not be affected. There is virtually no additional amp draw on the tail light circuits. The T-Connector does require that you run a wire directly to the battery for power, so as long as you do wire it directly to the battery and not to any other power source you will be fine.

  • Is a Power Wire Needed to Add Trailer Wiring on a 2012 Chevy Cruz
Tow Ready has determined that the 2012 Chevy Cruz has a wiring system that requires a powered converter, # 118508. The power wire that connects to the battery provides the power to the trailer lights. This protects the vehicles sensitive wiring and electrical system from damage. The Cruz also uses a 3 wire system and most trailers use a 2 wire system. That is why a converter is needed. The vehicle has separate turn signals and brake lights, a trailer has combined turn signals and brake...

Yes the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56214 you were looking at is confirmed to fit your 2014 Chevrolet Cruze with the Diesel engine. We have not had a chance to install this harness yet so we do not have an installation video, but I went ahead and linked the written instructions for you. • Brake Light Overrides Blinker on Trailer Towed by a 2012 Chevy Cruze
This sounds like a ground problem. The blinker on the side that is activated should keep blinking while the other side lights up as a brake light. If the opposite occurs, the wrong side blinks then you may have the connectors switched where they plug into the vehicle. The connectors with the red and yellow wire go on the driver's side. • Wiring Harness For 2013 Chevrolet Cruze And LED Lights
The difference between LED lights and standard incandescent trailer lights is the amperage (current) draw they require. LED lights require far less power to operate, and some converters will not work with LED lights because they present a very different electrical load that is harder for the converter to recognize. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11371 can absolutely be used to tow a U-Haul trailer.
