We put this on a vehicle that we were driving to Alaska from the Midwest. It worked fine. Besides the spare tire, we put a bin of camping gear and a container of extra gas. Had no problem with it. Because of the width between the floor slats, we tie wrapped a wood 1x2 slat in the gap so nothing could fall through.

Amazing product and not bad shipping time. The rack itself is very good quality and seems very durable and sits well on my car. I will say some of the directions were a little bit confusing but it was easy enough to figure out I had to modify it to fit to my car but it was easy to do that.

Just what I was looking for. Solid frame and easy to put together. Great
capacity with unlimited tie-down points. The roof rail adapters are the ticket for secure attacment to my Chevy Tahoe. Customer service was spot on and very helpful.

Works great, sits low is almost as wide as my renegade, doesn't weigh much but is plenty sturdy, doesn't make an unreasonable amount of wind noise and make a great mount for off-road lights take the time to read and measure to install it correctly and it sits stable hasn't moved in close to 10,000 miles after the initial install and tightening, also a great way to move tough bulky items out of a limited interior compartment, like highlight Jack's and other weather proof off-road essentials

I've had this rack on my 1995 Grand Cherokee and it's still great. Paint has finally started peeling but count the years to 2018 and it's been at 6000 feet in sun all that time! These roof racks by Surco are the impossible combination; light and sturdy.
This longer version is going on my 4x4 full size expedition Van.
The box arrived quickly, and it's a precision fit together.
However, like all roof rack baskets, they show a set of floor slats that are not part of the kit and no disclaimer about it. Just because the others are doing that sort of misleading marketing doesn't mean they have to.

I would like more floor options, like a chain link fence which could be rolled for easy shipping or expanded metal.
I would also like color options, I need this one in white, so I'll have to paint it.

I bought this for a trip we were doing last summer. I was originally going to go with a more Custom built rack but the wait was too long.

I had a good time building this and fitting it to our Hummer H3. It worked great for freeing up space for the family. We spent a week out on the road with no issues. It is a little taller than I was originally looking for but the Safari style rask is very easy to use and pack. I have had it mounted for a year now and had no issues.

This roof basket turned out be just what I needed. I ended up making my own roof rack for the top of my A.R.E. truck cap and the Surco Safari Basket dimensions were used to build it.

This went together easily with two people working on it. The gaps in the frame make it a bit tricky to load certain items but we are usually using a large cargo bag inside this. The gap size is a trade-off with affordable price. It's been sturdy. We have left it installed on our 2007 Toyota Highlander since we got it about 6 months ago.

I have had this rack on my Ford Excursion for a full year now. I go whitewater kayaking about every weekend and they fit in the rack very nicely. I bought a 4'x8' sheet of expanded steel mesh for a floor, cut it to length, painted it with truck bed liner, and fastened it to the cross bars with sheet metal screws so I wouldn't have to worry about balancing on the cross bars while loading and tying down gear.
This summer we went to from TN to CO with 3 boats stuffed full of gear on top, and it handled them with ease.
Get the folding ladder to make loading and unloading a breeze!

The Safari Rack appears to be a quality item. I used the fit guide on the manufacturer website and it showed the SP4560 with the included S48 Crossbars as being the correct roof rack for my vehicle. The reason I give it 2 stars is because the front crossbar is too short for my factory roof rails since the distance between the rails is wider toward the front of the vehicle making installation impossible without a longer crossbar.

I chose this rack to mount on my PUTCO venture bed rack because its the same exact size as the bed of my 2019 Ranger I used Yakima mounts for quick on and off. Couldnt be happier and love the look

Critical pieces missing that were supposed to be in the package, couldn't mount for the road trip we needed roof rack for. Bad customer service, said they would email me with info regarding missing parts and they did not.

What is the Weight Capacity for a Surco Safari Roof Mount Cargo Basket
Surco does not list a capacity for the Safari baskets such as # SPS4550 because it exceeds the capacity of most vehicle roofs/rails. But my contact over at Surco said the capacity is 250 pounds evenly distributed. The limiting factor would likely be the capacity of the vehicle roof/rails so you would need to consult the vehicle owners manual and/or vehicle manufacturer for the capacities.

Can Surco Safari Roof Basket Fit on 2018 Jeep Cherokee with Roof Rack
Thanks for the picture of your 2018 Jeep Cherokee. So the Surco Safari cargo baskets are designed to attach to raised side rails or Yakima round crossbars or Thule square crossbars. I can't quite make out what type of rails you have on the roof of your 2018 Jeep Cherokee but if the rails that run front to back are raised up (can put your hand under them) you can install a Surco Safari part # SPS4550 with the adapter kit part # SP1101.

Solution for Needing Longer Version of Surco Safari Roof Basket
We have the 84 inch long version of the Surco Safari part # SPS5084 but we don't have a way to convert your shorter 50 inch Safari to the longer version. Only solution we have would be to go with the larger basket.

I do have a solution for your. While the Surco Safari Rack 5.0 Rooftop Cargo Basket for Factory Rails - 84" Long x 50" Wide # SPS5084-1101 will not fit the Thule Wingbar Evo bars it will work with Thule square bars like the Thule SquareBar Crossbars # TH712500 using # TH710501 and # TH145105 with the Surco adapter kit # SPT400. Using the 84" basket will require 4 sets of crossbars and would need to extend over a camper shell or other supports due ot length of this basket. The 50" version...

Surco Safari Roof Mount Cargo Basket For a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport
Surco Safari basket # SPS4550-Y400 is designed to fit on Yakima crossbars. The Yakima crossbars are round and 1-1/8 inches in diameter. If these matches the bars on your Jeep then it will fit. There is a special adapter indicated for the 1993 Jeep Cherokee factory side rails from Surco but we do not currently carry it. What Are the Surco SPS4550 Safari Roof Basket Interior Dimensions
I was able to find out from Surco that the retaining bars on the # SPS4550 are only 3/4" thick, so you'd lose roughtly 1-1/2" wide and in length, bringing the total interior dimensions down to 48-1/2" long x 43-1/2" wide. It's going to be a tight fit, but I think you'll be able to make it work.
