Hello, neighbor, this is Curt with etrailer, and today we're gonna be taking a look at the 2 Bike Add-on for your Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack. So this is gonna be able to convert it into a four-bike rack. The installation is pretty simple, we're gonna walk you through that. We're also gonna talk a little bit about how it's gonna change the capacities of your Yakima HoldUp. So we'll start with installation, and the first thing that we're going to need to do is remove the end cap from our Yakima HoldUp. There's a little tab under here that you could press in, it's a bit stiff, but once you get that depressed in, you'll be able to remove this end cap pretty easily.

So next step is going to be to remove our support pin here, and we're gonna go ahead and deploy the rack. Now with that being done, what we want to do next is kind of clear the way for putting on the addition. So I'm gonna go ahead and open it up and get everything cleared away from this area right here. Then you wanna make sure you reinsert your support pin. Then you want to take your extension and insert it into the main tube of the bike rack.

And we're gonna try to line these holes up right here so that we can insert our pin. Next, take your pin and lock washer, go ahead and insert it and start threading away. Now I like to just do it by hand at first, but once you get it to the point where it's getting pretty tight, it's still a little loose, got a bit of slop in there. Now Yakima does provide you with a tool to get that tightened up. However, if you wanna make it quick and easy, I like to just use a 19-millimeter socket to do that.

And once that's done, go ahead and put your clip back on. And tightening that up makes it an anti-rattle device, similar to the hitch pin for the two-bike here. So this takes all of the slop out of the middle of it. There's still a little bit, but that, only because, that's only because of the hinge here where the bike rack can change positions from its down to up to tilt away. Now that we've got everything attached, we're gonna be ready to load up.

I want to go over the change in weight capacities, and it's important to note that this is the updated version of the Yakima HoldUp. If you're not sure which version you have, the older version has red accents here on the top of our posts. It also says Yakima in red here along the tray. The updated version is completely black, except it says Yakima in a gray or a silver color instead. But one of the great things about the updated version is that it is RV and off-road rated. So there's several capacities we have to go over. Now when you're on regular pavement, the front two trays, or the trays that are closest to the vehicle, are gonna keep their original weight capacity of 60 pounds. However, the two trays on the extension are gonna have a reduced capacity of 50 pounds apiece. Now that still is gonna be able to hold a pretty heavy bike as they go for you, but the further we get away from the vehicle, the more leverage we're putting on that hitch, therefore the weight capacity is gonna drop a little bit. Now, when you end up going off-road, or if you have this on the back of your RV or camper, what you need to keep in mind is that your front two trays will have a 50-pound capacity, while the back two trays are gonna have a 33-pound capacity. So make sure you keep that in mind as you're loading up, just depending on how you're using it. But other than that, the trays and everything about them, how they can adjust and slide back and forth to be able to fit different bikes, as far as the different size of bikes and things like that that they can accommodate, they're gonna operate exactly the same as your original two-bike model. So your tilt away is still gonna work the same as it does with the two-bike version. However, you're gonna want some extra help in order to get this up and down safely. So we've already gone ahead and dropped it, and one of the questions that some people end up having is, you know, "Is this going to hit the ground" Now there's not a very aggressive tilt when it comes to the Stage Two as it is, so even with this extension on, it's not really hitting the ground. The hitch that we're using today, if you go from the top of the inside of the hitch to the ground, is about 17 1/2 inches. The measurement where it's at right now, where our bottle opener is back here to the ground, is about six inches. So you can expect about an 11 1/2-inch drop when it comes to this, if you want to figure out if your bike rack is gonna hit the ground with the extension on it. And if this is fully loaded, you're gonna need a hand getting it back up into its other position, too, safely, because this is gonna be heavy with four bikes on it. But chances are, if you're driving around with four bikes, you do have some extra sets of hands in the car to make it easy. But this is gonna tilt up right back to its regular position the same way it would with the two-bike on it. All we need to do is lift up against it (bike rack clicks) and it'll pop right back into place. And with the two-bike add-on, you're gonna be able to put it all the way up into its stowaway position as well. However, as you can see, this is gonna take up a lot of room back here. When the two-bike version is up, we're already losing some visibility out of the back through the rear view camera and everything else, but with this extension on, we're gonna see it out of our back window, where other drivers are gonna, you know, get blocked seeing your taillights. If you're not riding around with it, even if the two-bike version basically lives in your hitch, if you're not driving around with four bikes, there's really no point, in my opinion, to have this attached on here. I would simply remove it. But if you get to the trail with you and your friends and you all unload your bikes and you're about to hit the trail and it comes time to park the car, I think it's perfectly okay just to go ahead and fold this up and do it like that. I just wouldn't drive it around like this day to day. Now, it's important to note, as well, that all together, the rack by itself is gonna weigh about 85 pounds, so that plus the weight of the bikes that you have on it, if you're trying to determine if the tongue weight is too much for your hitch or your vehicle, 85 pounds is what this is gonna weigh all put together. So with that being said, I think this is an excellent addition to be able to put on here if you find yourself in a situation where you're taking the whole family out riding, or you've got, you know, friends joining you to go out for a long ride and you got selected as the driver. The other great thing about it is through that pin, it's pretty darn easy to remove and put on, and it's compact enough that if you just wanted to keep it handy, it's gonna fit in a lot of different trunk spaces and cargo spaces, just depending on the vehicle. So that's gonna be pretty convenient as well.
