Features to know about

Made for a Clean Front End: Hidden Base Plate with Removable Arms

When you’re not towing, this base plate keeps your vehicle looking clean. The main body stays completely hidden for an unobtrusive, OE-style finish. With the removable draw bars out, there’s no bulky hardware or crossbar in sight. It keeps the front end tidy and helps avoid catching knees or shins when walking around the vehicle.

Fast Hookups Every Time: Twist-Lock Attachment System

The twist-lock tabs make connecting your tow bar simple and secure. Each arm slides in, twists to lock, and pins in place, so you can get set up quickly without fussing with tools. The design is straightforward and dependable—perfect for solo hookups before hitting the road.

Solid, Long-Haul Strength: Welded Steel Construction

Built from welded steel and tested to the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), this base plate is made to handle serious towing miles. It spreads towing forces evenly across the chassis to help reduce strain on suspension components. The co-cured black powder coat and rust-resistant liquid Bonderite finish keep it protected from road wear and weather over time.

DIY-Friendly Mounting: Simple Bolt-On Install with Included Hardware

There’s no welding required for this setup. Everything bolts securely to the chassis using the included hardware. The precise fit and clearly designed mounting points make installation straightforward for anyone comfortable turning wrenches on the weekend.

Compatible with Popular Tow Bars: Ready for Curt and Blue Ox Setups

If you already have a Curt or Blue Ox tow bar, you’re good to go—this base plate connects directly without adapters. The bracket spacing measures 30-1/2" with a bracket height of 19-1/2", giving you clear dimensions to match your towing gear. It’s a solid, adaptable foundation for a reliable flat-tow setup.

Video Transcript for Step-By-Step Install Curt Custom Base Plate Kit - 2022 Ford Bronco

Hi everyone, Jesse here with etrailer. Today we'll be taking a look at, and I'll show you how to install the Curt Custom Fit baseplate on our 2022 Ford Bronco. There's really five main components to look into whenever setting up your vehicle to be flat towed, the first one being the base plate. This is the structural mounting point on the towed vehicle for which really everything else is going to connect. Then we have our tow bar, which is the physical link between towed vehicle and motor home. We have our diode wiring, which this is going to keep you safe and legal out there on the road by sending a signal from the taillights on your motor home to the taillights on the towed vehicle to get those lights to function properly.

We also have a braking system, which is also going to keep you safe and legal while traveling all 50 states. And what that does is allows you to not just rely on the brakes on the motor home, but also utilize the brakes on the towed vehicle to come to a safe stop. And last, we have our safety cables. These are here in case of a catastrophic disconnect. If anything in our system we inchesre to fail, then those will hold everything together so you can get pulled over safely.

Here's a close look at what our base plate looks like when you're hooked up and ready to tow. The base plate doesn't come with any kind of mounting brackets for your six pole wiring or your breakaway cable. So you will have to kind of do something custom like I did. I just built a bracket that bolts up to the vehicle. But our base plate here, we have loops for our safety cables.

It's pretty easy to get those off as far as access goes. And then our tow bar here, we are using a Blue Ox tow bar. This is going to work with almost any brand out there. You'll just have to look into whether you need an adapter end for your tow bar to work or not. And then these arms here are removable, so you can get almost a factory look whenever you're not flat towing.

What you'll do is just pull this pin out and rotate this a quarter turn and pull it out. Now you have a pretty clean look for when you're just driving around town. Really, that's about all there is to it. As I said, this is really just the structural mounting point for all of your other flat tow components. But if you have any questions about if this base plate is right for you or really any questions about any flat tow components, reach out to us. We deal with these all the time and we'd be happy to help you out. When it comes to the installation with this base plate, it's honestly easy compared to other base plates out there because essentially all you do is drop your skid plate down here if you have one and then it's going to bolt up to some brackets that are right down here. Even though that sounds like a pretty easy process, you're most likely installing other flat tow components at the same time. So I'd understand if you're not looking to tackle that all yourself and check out our installer locator. You can find someone local to you that would be happy to get you set up. If you are looking to see how this gets installed and follow along and I'll walk you through the process. To begin our installation, you'll want to first remove your skid plate that's going to be down here. It's usually just held in by a handful of 10 millimeter bolts. We didn't have a skid plate on our vehicle, so we're just going to skip that step and move on to removing this bracket here. This is held in by two 15 millimeter bolts. (drill buzzing) We can get our base plate up into place. These are side specific, so just make sure everything lines up. Your safety cable hook is going to go on the inside and you also have this opening here for this rubber stop. So get that all lined up. Then we're using the factory bolts. I did reapply some blue thread locker and we just have that on an extension so we can get it up in place. It's kind of tricky to hold everything, but get that pushed up and start threading it in. Then we can tighten these down and we'll just repeat that same process on the other side. (drill buzzing) Now we can get our side brackets mounted up. There's going to be two holes on the outside of your base plate here and then two holes on the frame of the vehicle. So once again, side specific, just kind of mock them up and figure out which one is which. We'll get that lined up and then we'll send one of our half inch bolts to our base plate and the bracket, get a flat washer, then a split washer, and then your nyloc nut. We'll do the same thing with the hardware above that. We'll take the coiled end of our fish wire, feed that up through and out this opening. Once you have that out of there, we'll take a 7/16 flat washer, 7/16 bolt, push that up, get that to slot down. This back one is a little tricky. You have to kind of get the washer position before you can pull the bolt the rest of the way down, but eventually that'll come out and line up with our hole there. Once you have both those bolts dropped down, we can start threading on a flange nut to each of them. Now we can tighten everything down. These two bolts are going to be using an 11/16 inch socket. (drill buzzing) Then our bolts on the side will be a three quarter inch socket. And you'll also need a wrench to hold onto the nut, so I'll grab that. (drill buzzing) We need to torque everything down, so you will need a torque wrench. And then what I did was just put my three quarter inch wrench and kind of locked it into the body here. That's going to help me be able to get up to the high torque spec rating. And once I have it torqued down, I'll just have to use a pry bar to take that wrench out. Once you have everything torqued down, we can move on to our permanent safety cables. These are here just in case of a catastrophic disconnect to kind of hold everything together. So what we need is to have this wrapped around a sturdy piece of the frame and then connect it to our base plate with this quick link here. So what I'll do is feed this up above our frame and then get this to go between our frame and our charge pipe here. Pull that down. And with our quick link, we'll just send it through that hole in the bottom of our base plate, get both ends of the safety cable through the quick link and we'll just tighten that down. All that's left is to get the rest of your flat tow components installed. Otherwise, that's going to do it for our look at and installation of the Curt Custom Fit Base Plate on our 2022 Ford Bronco.

Easy to install. All the holes lined up. Vey happy with my purchase

by:

Works just like the video with the green Jeep shows you.
The hardest part was getting the outside nuts off the bumper.
Use long extensions and a swivel and a short 18 mm socket.
Other than that it went smoothly. But my friend has a lift so it was a lot easier to do it all baseplate , wiring, and brake buddy cable.

I'm very happy with everything I buy are very professional and they have very good products at very good prices, thank you

by:

Product worked great! Installation was not that difficult, but instructions were xeroxed causing pictures to be difficult to see detail. I was able to go online and see full color pictures with the ability to zoom in. Took about 2-2.5 hours to install

by:

Great tech advice finding the right product, easy purchase and prompt delivery!! Thanks Etrailer!!

by:

Custom fit, everything went together smoothly. I'm ready to haul my Ford ranger behind my motor home.

by:

Installed the Curt Custom Base Plate Kit (#C64ER) onto my 2019 Ford Ranger XLT FX4. Could not have been easier. Directions were excellent! Time required was about 2 hours. Great product!

by:

This base plate kit worked very well with the Blue Ox Acclaim non-binding tow bar - coupler for 2" ball (code BX4330). We towed a 4 door Rubicon over 2000 miles and the setup worked great. The bar is very easy to couple and uncouple. The removable arms work exactly as advertised. I did have to cut two small slots in my custom bumper to install the base plate, but the slots are not in strength critical areas. The installation instruction are clear and good.

by:

No issues, easy installation. Great tech support.

by:

Easy to install with typical tools found in about anyone's garage. Took maybe an hour or so to do. We have pulled our Ranger about 2000 miles behind our RV without any issue.

by:

Wasn't to hard to install with a helper to get bumper off my truck. Had bumper pulled and installed baseplates in about hour and a half.

by:

Fit like it was made for it. :) Only issue was the fishing wires for the bolts in the frame. They would not fit through the holes in the locking plates so I couldn't use them. I used a magnet stick instead and it worked well. I did not put on the safety cables around the frame. I figure since this thing bolts to the steering box, if it comes off so does the steering box and then I have much bigger issues that these cables are not going to help.

by:

Etrailer is with out a doubt the best supplier in the market today. they are on time every time and there support is excellent.

by:

Great Base plate kit! Very easy to follow instructions even with my aftermarket bumper with winch. It fit perfect. The only issue I have is where the safety cables attach to the base plate….the cable connectors are too big to fit through the holes because the Jeep’s frame blocks part of the hole. See photo with red circle. I will have to get a smaller connector.

by:

It preforms as designed. I tow a jeep gladiator with a 32’ class C RV

by:

This is not the first time I have purchased from ETrailer, but by far the best experience yet. I was treading in uncharted waters and decided to call, i happened to get Paula S. And she was able to educate me on the subject at hand. She also made sure I was ordering all the right parts for the task at hand. I received the two boxes of parts and assembled everything on the vehicle and noticed i was missing something so I called back and talked to Ashley. She assured me that Paula did order the missing part and that it would be here the next day. (Delayed due to holiday) You can sure tell both ladies love their jobs and liked taking care of us customers. I will always try to deal with them when I need something towing related.

by:

Jaime was very helpful in getting the right baseplate for my Jeep Cherokee and in retuning the wrong item which I ordered myself.
The baseplate installed easily and will be used for the first time next week. Also, the curt base plate did not require any trimming whatsoever of the plastics on the front of the car.
Thanks Jaime

Good product easy to install.

by:

Very easy to install on my 2025 Bronco Outer Banks. No nonsense and straightforward. Minor trimming of the front skid plate was all that was needed.

by:

Price and shipping was great. Once I received the base plates I immediately installed them. The quality is outstanding! The fit is flawless! Thank you etrailer:)

by:

Easy to install had to use the bolt fish wires to install the 7/16 bolts, also I did have to slightly modify the skid plate on the Bronco to work around the base plate

by:

2024 Bronco Big Bend with "capable" steel bumper. I used an angle grinder to cut two about 3"x6" openings for the hooks to stick through the steel skidplate. Unsure how it would work with the plastic one, but this worked pretty well and allows the D rings to stay which was my personal preference.

High quality and easy to install...

Until I busted the welded on nut off while attaching the skid plate, as it seemed to be a standard vs. metric thread. THe skidplate bolts will not work, new bolts must be purchased to attach the skid plate as they were not provided in my kit and the instructions make no mention of this issue. I located some standard bolts I had on hand that solved the issue in an effective but ugly way. Very disappointed as I'll have to R&R one side if Curt provides a replacement, and find black in color bolts to match the skidplate factory look. So, beware the skidplate threads... otherwise lovely.

  • Can Roadmaster Tow Bar Connect to Curt Base Plate Kit
Hey Fred, you can use a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar with a Curt base plate kit # C24RV but you will need to use an adapter like the part # RM-031. Curt and Blue Ox adapters are interchangeable as they are very similar in design.

  • Blue Ox Baseplate Needed For A 2024 Ford Bronco With A Modular Bumper
Hey Val, For a 2024 Ford Bronco with a modular bumper you would need the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BLU23XR. A Blue Ox tow bar would be a compatible fit with these baseplates, just make sure you pick one with the correct sized shank for your motorhome's trailer hitch and give it a once over for its condition. If the tow bar wasn't properly maintained you might be buying something that's going to bind up and require replacement parts. If you want to buy new you can go with the Avail # BX7420....
