Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we'll take a look at this TowSmart Baja Collection ball mount with a two inch hitch ball and a hitch lock for two inch hitches. Has a 5,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right here is what'll slide into your vehicle's two inch hitch receiver and you can prevent theft with the included hitch lock to secure it. So basically when you go install this, slide this into your hitch receiver, line your holes up, and instead of using just a pin and a clip, this will include an actual hitch lock pin and it is 5/8 inch diameter.
So what you'll do is go ahead, it comes with two barrel keys, take the dust cap off of it, line that up, and then just turn it a quarter of a turn and the lock will come off and then you'll have your pin here. Just take your pin. Once you get the holes lined up in the hitch receiver, slide this all the way through. And then to put the lock on, you don't even need the keys in there, you can actually just push it on there and it'll lock and you're all secure, ready to go. And then to remove it, pull the cover down again, line your key up, turn it quarter of a turn and it'll come right out.
Slide your pin out and now you can remove it. And this is included. Now the hitch ball right here, this is what'll provide the connection point for your trailer's coupler. The diameter on this ball is two inches. Now this ball mount is designed with the unique X shape shank on it so the water can drain out of your hitch receiver when this ball mount's installed, so it prevents this ball mount from seizing up and making it hard to get out your hitch receiver.
This offers both a drop and a rise position to ensure level towing. The drop on this would be this position like it is now, and that's measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. It's 5-1/4 inches. If you flip it over and install it in your hitch receiver this way, that's gonna get you a rise of four inches again from the ball mount to the top of the shank. But if you notice when you flip it over, the ball's gonna need to be repositioned, flipped over.
So you do have to break the nut loose and then flip it over and put it on this way. But the nice thing about this, what makes it sort of easier, is on this ball mount, they use a lock rail system and I wanted to show you that up close. So if you look close, you'll see these raised edges on there. And then if we flip it over the other way, if you go to the rise, you'll see them also on this. And what that lock rail system does, that'll let you torque the hitch ball back down by just using a single wrench. You don't have to have two wrenches, one to hold that and one to hold the ball. Basically, if you'll notice when the ball's put in there, the wrench flats, which are the flat section here, lines up with those lock rails, so then you just torque it down. You don't have to have a second wrench to hold those in place. Just a wrench on your nut. Now this is a durable steel, has a nice black matte finish to it to rust and corrosion. Few specs on this again, application is two inch by two inch trailer hitch receivers, gross towing weight capacity of 5,000 pounds, tongue weight of 500 pounds. And the last thing, just wanted to measure the length, and when we measure the length on a ball mount, it's always measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball. And this one, if you go center to center, there's your 10 inch measurement for the length. But that should do it for a look at this TowSmart Baja Collection ball mount with the two inch hitch ball and the hitch lock for two inch hitches.
Will work well for my needs.
On time. Worked perfect on my wife’s Murano. Nice and sturdy
Exactly what I expected. Fits perfectly
Great service. Punctual. No complai nts
The trailer is level when attached to the ball a perfect fit.
As expected
Fits wel, put trailer level just where it should be.
Excellent transaction and prompt shipping. Nice quality product.
The hitch that I ordered came with a ball and pin that ordinarily one has to purchase separately. That was convenient for me since the price was better than any other option. etrailer.com has been a great source for me in the past and continues to be so.
This particular hitch took longer than normal to receive, but I assume it was coming from the other side of the planet. Apart from that, it was A great purchase.
Looks good but time will tell. Should include instructions as to what to do and remove the plastic insert in the pin hole.
