Hello, neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. We're looking together at a towing kit with ball mount and trailer wiring for your stealth hitches with a two inch ball. Now folks, this is a custom fit application. Number one, you're gonna need to have a stealth hitch that's already installed on your vehicle, and that item number is SH54FR, because in this particular case, this fits a 2018 through a 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Now make sure you're double checking that with our fit guide here at etrailer.com. Top center of our homepage where it says vehicle information.
Enter things like your make and model and also keep in mind check the fit guide because this video could be outdated and it could possibly fit newer models. Now getting into it, this complete kit again lets you use that stealth hitch with your receiver that's sold separately and it's gonna have this detachable ball mount that will lock up into place of the receiver attachment. And it does mount securely to the hidden cross tube to eliminate rattle and play. It's gonna go up in there and lock in place and give you a nice connection point for your trailer's ball coupler. As you can see, it's got a nice elegant black powder coat finish over a heavy duty steel, so you don't have to worry about rust or corrosion and that kind of stuff.
Comes with the safety chain loops as well and their black powder code as well. Your options for the wiring, mounting brackets and everything are included. They're gonna give you a seven blade or seven way connection that mount beneath the hitch that's gonna power your turn signals and everything. And they also give you an adapter here to then plug into that if you need to go down to a four-way connection as well. And that'll lock in up here on the lid when it's put in and you can pull that open to pull it back out.
All the mounting hardware here is included. You've got a ring connection here. You've got bolts with the tooth washers, zip ties. These clamps here for connecting wiring as well. You've got the actual wiring harness here.
They give you a nice good length and this little modulator box as I call it, that's basically the brains of this whole outfit. It's gonna protect your vehicle from back feed, but it's also gonna give the correct output to all the wiring once you wire it up per the instructions. Now this is rated for up to 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. Now I wanna give you some measurements on this. Again, the ball size is two inches. When you use the hitch item number that I threw up on the screen earlier, from the ground to the top of this ball would be 18 inches. And then from the center of this lug here to the center of the ball is exactly 10 inches. The total length of the whole unit is 13 inches long. The base is three quarters of an inch thick and the ball hole uses a one inch diameter shank on the ball. Now stealth hitch is gonna give you a limited lifetime warranty, so if you ever have any issues in the future with the product, just contact the manufacturer and they'll get you taken care of. Stealth should be ashamed. First I ordered the kit with a two inch receiver. To my great surprise the kit did NOT include attachment points for safety chains. For these I had to order another kit. When it was installed their attachment points did not fit! Shame on Stealth Hitches! Shameless marketing designed to fleece consumers combined with poor fit & QA.

The installation instructions were not very clear. The reinstallation of the bumper trim was very hard and to have another person help. That should be included on the instructions to understand the process and have another person available. Bumper trim was very hard to place back on correctly and I still have an edge that is not flush.
I am generally very happy with the design and function of this hitch. Unfortunately the paint started peeling off and rusting within weeks of installation. I keep my cars a long time so I will need to put extra effort into maintaining over time.
You should have seen the macho Marina crowd as they watched me back my BMW 640 down the launch ramp with a 16 foot boat trailer hanging off the back. Guys were down on their knees looking under the rear of the car. But the best part was when I dropped the hitch and put it in the trunk! Lot' of OOOs and Ahaaas.
Product works great. Only challenge was determining the correct turn signal and marker light wires without owning a multimeter. However, a couple paper clips, lead wires, and 12v bulb helped confirm the correct wires to splice into.
Note: The wire to pin 1 is for left/right directional. The wire to passenger side pin 4 is for the marker lights.
For connecting the wiring to power, remove the spare tire bracket to access the additional positive battery connections. Attach the black power line here instead of the battery post. For the ground wire, there is a collection of brown ground wires fastened with a crown nut towards the rear wheel well in the rear passenger side fuse compartment area. Attach the ground wire here instead of directly to the negative battery post.
I tested the wiring multiple times through the installation process to ensure all was good before closing it all back up again.

The Stealth Hitch is a great option if you want to keep your rear end looking clean. This kit allows you to add towing ability to an already installed Stealth Hitch Rack Receiver. I added this to a 2020 Volvo XC90. You do need to remove the bumper fascia which, with the excellent videos on this site, was not very difficult. I was able to complete the project in a couple of hours.
***Note*** Stealth changed the size of the bolts holding the hitch block to the bar (from 1/2” to 5/8”) in 2021. Since I had installed my receiver rack in 2020, the included, longer bolts that you need to use to install the chain hooks did not fit. I contacted Stealth and they sent me a new kit with the smaller bolts, chain hooks, and (nicer) bracket to mount the connector to the hitch - no charge. It took about a week to get them so plan accordingly so you’re not stuck with your bumper fascia lying on the ground, not able to complete the job. I ran to the hardware store to grab some temporary bolts so I could get everything back together until the correct bolts came. I’m hoping I can change out the correct bolts without having to remove the bumper fascia again.
I was looking for a hitch that I could tow my motorcycle trailer behind my E92 3 Series 335i. This stealth hitch has the removable quick mount receiver and ball adapter, so that it wouldn’t be an eye sore when I wasn’t towing my bikes to the track.
It works great! I was thinking it would be a loose fit, but the hitch is rock solid! I’ve never pulled more than 1K since the car is so light, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be the hitch that would go out.
It is pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for! Minimal cutting required to the bottom side of the bumper, and it goes in place of the bumper plate. You can only see about 1/8” of the machined receiver under the bumper.
Great product if you need to tow something light with your 3 series!
Worked fine but wiring came with no instructions (got from stealth website) and the thickness of the wires was not compatible with the connectors without a lot of effort to force the splice. Wires much thicker than car wires. Hitch part works great.
Went on without a hitch! Pun intended. :)
For real though, it's a great kit. I do wonder though, since the 2022 model 3 comes with a towing cable connector already, is the wiring controller necessary?
This is fabulous! We've been using it for a basket to haul small machinery. Love this thing!!! So easy to have it be discreet when wanted as well.

2023 Volvo XC60. I bought this and the hitch separately. If you're not used to doing these, like me, the install was actually a fun and easy project, if you take your time to understand how things come apart/go together. I won't know if I did it all right, though, until I have the dealer program the vehicle to accept the new accessory. One pic shows white,braided wire to grounding nut. Another shows where I affixed the module. And another shows the black plug that is to be removed for where the wires will exit the vehicle.
the instruction delivered with the package did not match the car it was ordered for. We had to figure it out for two hours how to connect. The overall quality of the product is excellent

Installation instructions provided, along with youtube videos, helped greatly. I use the towing equipment frequently each week and have received positive remarks from others interested in similar towing arrangements. Installation ended up being easier (and less scary!) than anticipated.
The only trailer kit that would fit on a BMW (convertible). I love trailering my small sailboat with that car and the towing kit is beautifully made. It is removeable (so you can't see that there is a hitch on the car) but it is so elegant and well made that I leave it showing! It is expensive though.
