go power solar controller

This solar controller prevents harmful overcharging by adjusting the power generated by a solar panel before it reaches your RV batteries. It uses pulse width modulation technology to regulate the output through pulses that provide a consistent charge. Typically, this type of technology is a good fit for smaller systems with lower voltages.

Automatic Multistage Charging System

Using a multistage charging system, the controller automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. The controller is compatible with multiple battery types and includes preset charging profiles for sealed/gel, AGM, flooded/wet cell, and lithium batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Bulk: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. As the name suggests, this is where the bulk of the charging happens. It typically charges the battery to at least 80% capacity.
  2. Absorption: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery reaches between 80% to 90% capacity, the absorption state will kick in and start charging at a regulated voltage. In each charging profile, this mode is set to last for 30 minutes after the bulk charge is completed.
  3. Float: Once the battery reaches full charge, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: On flooded/wet cell batteries, this mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended float cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Practical, Convenient Features

With Maximum Power Boost Technology, you can simply press a button to activate Bulk mode for the highest charging voltage. This lets you quickly top off your battery bank before the end of the day by capturing as much power as possible.

The backlit, digital display acts as an information center for your solar panel output. It shows the charging current, battery voltage, and battery state of charge. It also allows you to input your battery type and choose a charging profile. Additionally, a built-in USB port on the front of the controller provides a convenient outlet to charge your cell phone or tablet.

Lastly, the controller includes several built-in safety features to help protect your equipment. The charging process will shut down if the controller starts to overheat and when an overcurrent is detected. Also, if the battery or solar panel is wired incorrectly, it activates a reverse polarity alarm.

How It Installs

The solar controller flush-mounts to a wall inside your RV. It is wired to the solar panel using MC4 cables. Then, the battery bank is wired to the terminals on the controller. You can also install a fuse or circuit breaker (sold separately) up to 10 amps between the solar controller and battery for additional current protection.

Video Transcript for Go Power RV Solar Panels 34280503 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the 10-amp GO Power! Flush Mount PWM Digital Solar Controller. Now, a solar controller is an essential component of your photovoltaic solar system. A controller is what'll maintain the life of the battery by protecting it from overcharging. When your batteries have reached 100% state of charge, this controller will prevent overcharging by limiting the current flowing into the batteries from your solar system. This is a temperature-compensated pulse with modulation charging. It does have three battery-charging profiles: sealed gel, AGM, and flooded. And it does offer four-stage charging: bulk, absorption, float, and equalize. If you notice right here, it has a nice backlit LCD screen, which will display the charging current, battery voltage, and the battery state of charge.

It does use the maximum power boost technology, which will let you manually bulk charge at any stage of the charge cycle. On the side here, you pull the plug out, you can see it has a built-in USB charge port. Right there. It does use heavy-duty terminals to provide low-resistance connections. Has battery reverse polarity protection, solar array reverse polarity protection, also overtemperature and overcurrent protection. This unit is compatible with the GO Power! Overlander, the Retreat, the Solar Flex, the Eco Solar, the 80-watt kit only, and the portable solar kit. This is suitable for 12-volt solar systems up to 170 watts or 10 amps. Now the nominal system voltage on this is 12 volts.

Maximum solar panel input voltage is 28 volts. Maximum solar ray current is 10 amps. This is very easy to install. It is flush mountable. It includes the solar controller, the two mounting screws to install it, and a nice user's manual that will describe how to install it, and how to use it.Weight on this is only about nine ounces.

Dimension on it, width is right at four inches. Height on it is going to be also right at four inches. And the depth on it right at one and a quarter inches deep. But that should do it for the review on the 10-amp Go Power! Flush Mount PWM Digital Solar Controller.

  • Wiring and Installation of Go Power PWN Solar Charge Controller # 32480503
The wiring diagram for the Go Power PWM Solar Charge Controller # 34280503 can be found in the manufacturer's user manual and I attached a copy of it below. To install the controller, first pick an appropriate location and mount the controller using the included hardware. This should be as close to the battery as possible, on a vertical surface, and indoors to protect the unit from weather damage. Next, run wires from the positive and negative battery terminals to the controller...

  • Parts Needed to Control Battery Charge with Go Power Eco Solar Charging System
In addition to the Go Power Eco Solar Charging System - 10 Watt Solar Panel # 34273836 you'll at least need the Go Power PWM Solar Charge Controller # 34280503 and then I recommend using an entry plate like the part # 34273841REVA to make the installation look nice as the controller will need to be on the inside of your trailer/vehicle. The entry plate I mentioned has a 10" wiring extension but if you need something longer is also comes in the following lengths: 7' - # 34276245 10'...

  • Solar Charging System for RV with 6V and 12V Batteries
In order to have multiple solar panels provide trickle re-charging to an array of RV batteries you need to have a controller that can manage the output from the panels. My contact at Go Power! said that most 100 watt solar panels output 20 volts and this is simply to much for 12V and 6V batteries even if multiple ones are wired together. A controller like # 34280503 is essential for ensuring the panels' output is stepped down to the appropriate voltage/current to prevent overcharging. I...
