Bearing, Race and Seal Information
More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.
The integral hub-and-rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage. Furthermore, machined disc brakes minimize the chance of contamination between the hub and rotor, resulting in excellent performance and long life.
Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.
Designed for axles with 4-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty ductile iron that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look together at this Kodiak decrement disc brake kit with these 13 inch rotors, with an eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern for your 7,200 pound Dexter axles. Now these brake assemblies are gonna make it very easy to upgrade from drum to disc brakes, giving you better performance. This kit is designed to fit your 7,200 pound Dexter type axle with the number 42 spindle. And this is designed for wheel sizes that are 16 inches and larger.
And the bolt pattern, as I mentioned, is eight on six and a half inches. The wheel bolt diameter is nine 16ths of an inch and the diameter of these rotors is 13 inches. If you are in need of the bearing and seal info, you can find that listed for you on this product page. Now as you probably know, disc brakes are gonna deliver better performance than drum brakes. They're gonna give you more consistent stopping, even at highway speeds, and also dramatically shorter stopping distances.
Maintenance costs are typically lower for disc brakes because you have fewer moving parts that you have to maintain, repair or replace. Now these integral cast iron hub and rotor assemblies are one piece, and they are going to minimize lateral run-out to prevent warping and give you a smooth ride with a balance hub and rotor. And they use the industry standard bearings and seals that are sold separately from this kit and the races are included. They're going to be pre-installed here, and lemme give you a closeup view here as well. So this is also going to prevent heat related damage due to the vented design that you can see right here.
That's gonna help effectively dissipate heat. And these are going to match SAE specifications and the decrement plating on the rotors and brackets are going to provide superior corrosion resistant for fresh water or salt water use with a 300 to 400 hour salt spray rating. Now the decrement coated calipers that you also see there, I'm gonna try to get this set back up there so it doesn't fall on my foot, these calipers are also decrement coated and they are cast iron and they are self-adjusting for equal equal braking, smooth equal braking, rather. And the benefit of cast iron is that it doesn't flex like aluminum. Less flex means more braking torque.
That's gonna help result in smooth, even braking every time. The low drag design retracts the piston farther than other calipers for a cooler running break. And I have this brake pad removed from the caliper over here, just so you can take a look at the nickel chrome plated pistons. There are two and a half inch in diameter and that's gonna be about 30% larger than other brands. So what that means for you is more braking torque than the competition. So hopefully you can get a good view of that there. So again, the calipers are also coated with decrement, so superior rust prevention, corrosion resistance. And this kit does include high performance, ceramic brake pads that are gonna be included in the calipers. Just like that. Now the mounting brackets here, they are also decrement plated and they are constructed of ductile iron, providing strength and durability. And they are a side support design. So that's going to ensure that the load is placed on the whole bracket, not the bolts. And the x-ray embossing is going to give you additional thread contact to ensure tight secure mounting for the caliper guide bolts. As you can see, this is a one, two, three, four bolt brake flange mounting configuration. And so this kit does include everything that you see here, laid out on my table before me. It does include two full brake assemblies. Again, you're gonna get the two decrement plated, cast iron rotor and hub assemblies, two decrement coated cast iron calipers. And then you're also going to get the decrement plated, ductile iron caliper mounting brackets that we just talked about. And then four stainless steel caliper mounting bolts. And then these two screw-on center oil caps that can be used with either grease or oil. If you decide to use oil, you will need to use the unionized oil seals, number one zero dash six three. Again, number one zero dash six three. And obviously, as you no doubt know, a hydraulic brake actuator and brake lines are gonna be required for these brakes to be activated. We do sell all that separately here at etrailer.com if you are in need of that. And these do require a PSI rating of at least 1,500 PSI. So it's a high quality kit. It's designed to resist corrosion, rust, with that premium decrement coating. And if you do decide to pick this up, we would love to hear back from you regarding how the installation went and how using this kit is going for you, so you can share your experiences with us by dropping a comment or leaving a review on this product page. And if you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to give us a call. We'd love to hear from you and help you out further. But I think it's gonna wrap up our look, today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
