Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter
To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.
This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.
No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Jeff: Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Curt dual plugin custom wiring adapter for the Curt brake controllers. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler and JL Wrangler Unlimited with the factory tow package, also, the 2019 and newer Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited with the factory tow package, and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator with the factory tow package.On a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work with your application.Now, this is a plug-in wiring adapter. It allows for nice, quick, simple installation of your Curt brake controller to your vehicle. There's no cutting or splicing required.
Basically, this end here is a custom connector that'll plug into the built-in port that's beneath the dash of your vehicle. That port is usually located underneath the dash to the left of the steering column and it's usually taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. The other end right here plugs into the back of your Curt brake controller.This is compatible with the time-delayed and the proportional brake controllers from Curt. Now the brake controller must have a built-in plug for this adapter to connect to. It will not work with controllers that have pigtail wiring harnesses.
You can see this harness itself is about two foot long. It does use 12 gauge wires. If you notice, they have a nice protective wire loom covering them to prevent damage to the wires.But that should do it for the review on this Curt dual plugin custom wiring adapter for the Curt brake controllers.

2021 Jeep Gladiator
Makes installing a controller in the Gladiator easy peasy...that is, once you locate the plug on the vehicle harness. For newer Gladiator builds (2021) it seems like they are taping the plug to keep it from flopping around so you have to reach around a bit to find it, peel the tape and free the end. It was impossible for me to contort myself to where I could see it so had to do by feel. Once the plug was free, add the adapter, locate the controller and good to go.
